Live in Seattle 2002 is a great concert to hear the sisters at their best. Covering Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore" is a must. "These Dreams" allows Nancy to show off her beautiful voice.
I caught them at Cal Jam II. It's hard to explain to people that even from a distance you could feel Ann's range and power. She didn't have to scream her throat raw to 'belt' out a song.

I can personally attest to how amazing Ann sounded back in their early days. In fact, I saw them at Convention Hall in Asbury Park back on August 16th, 1977. Rick Derringer opened for them. While waiting to go in and see Heart, we found out that Elvis had passed away. Someone had a transistor radio, no smartphones back then. Heart closed out their set with "Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin and dedicated it to the King. To hear Nancy sing lead, check out "These Dreams".
This was written as an answer to some of the music industry crap that the few female rockers of the seventies had to endure, and Ann and Nancy dealt with more than most. Not sure how much has changed these days, but back then, there were lots of barracudas lurking everywhere.
I think mostly its about the owner of "Mushroom Records", the original label they were on. He released somewhat "Demos" of tracks that weren't fleshed-out and it was the actual 2nd album "Magazine", and I believe they took legal action. He may be the one also that Ann had said (he) insinuated at times, or wanted to think, the "Sisters" had a (air quotes) relationship with one another! And an ad in Rolling Stone reflected that in a photo with racy caption. Creepy dude!

So good! Thanks for this. Saw them Nov. 1976 at Winterland in San Francisco. The lineup was Graham Parker and the Rumour, Heart (the "official" second lp "Little Queen", not "Magazine" with Barracuda was not out yet but they were starting to play it at shows which they did at this one), Tommy Bolin (this show was just weeks before he died in Dec.) and Elvin Bishop was the headliner. Amazing show! My girlfriend at the time got a little pissed that I wanted to get near the stage when Heart played. 😂 I think Led Zeps "Rock and Roll" was a staple of their shows even then.

That was definitely the recorded version of the song with live footage synced as you said. The instruments played on Heart's "Barracuda" were: Ann Wilson: Lead vocals Nancy Wilson: Acoustic guitar and backing vocals Roger Fisher: Lead guitar Howard Leese: Rhythm guitar and Mellotron Steve Fossen: Bass Michael DeRosier: Drums Roger Fisher is credited with coming up with the song's riff and musical structure. Rodger Fisher was a Madman on the guitar. After 1979 he was no longer in the band though and they had to replace him. Nancy usually plays rhythm and acoustic on most of the songs but there are times after Fisher left in 79 that Nancy played lead guitar on some songs. The Wilson sisters revealed in various interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards an ad Mushroom Records placed in trade publications implying that Ann and Nancy were lesbians having an affair. The song focuses on Ann's rage towards a promoter who came up to her after a concert in Detroit asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend - band member Michael Fisher. After the promoter revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song. Nancy put suitably angry music to the words to complete the song comparing the sleazy side of music to a dangerous fish.
It was overdubbed to the video because the original audio track was damaged somehow enough to make it too noticable. But that doesn't detract in any way from how great they were live. The orig video with the compromised audio is out there on YT somewhere if you search for it.
@markdecker6190 true and I agree. I wasn't stating that with a negative attitude. That's the problem when you read somebody typing something you don't know how they're saying it. I'm kind of a factual person, so I was just sharing fact. So know that I agree with you.

Saw them live on the ‘Dog & Butterfly’ tour and like every other teenage boy there, I fell in love with Ann (and Nancy too…) The Robert Plant comparison is spot on. Zep was a huge influence on the sisters. They were born in Seattle, but the band was formed in Vancouver, so their first 2 or 3 albums were considered Cancon (Canadian content) which meant they got a lot of radio play in Canada. The vid for this song was concert footage, but specifically filmed for this video. If you’d like to see some real live footage, there was a tour documentary made for the ‘Dog & Butterfly’ tour. There’s a live version of “Cook With Fire”, which has a similar vibe and energy to “Barracuda”. BTW, don’t think they’re touring currently. Ann has been getting treatments for cancer…😢
Yes, a live concert but with the studio audio dubbed over. Of all the reactions to this video I have watched....only BritPops React reacted to this live video with the actual live audio...have no idea where they found it but Anne's vocals is even more impressive live on Barracuda.
The band was more than just the two sisters. Roger Fisher is the one behind so much of that awesome guitar work in the 70s. "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Crazy On You," "Straight On," they're all bangers.
I just subscribed to your channel. You guys are so cool. I lovethe reactions to the songs you listen to. I'm 71 years old and hard rock has been in my life since 1969 when a high school buddy of mine introduced me to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Until then all i had ever heard was country music from my parents and soft rock from my sister. I saw Heart in the mid 70' s. Just before they came onto thestage the auditorium lights all went down and the stagewas filled with white fog. As the fog cleared away the band was already standing on the stage. It was truly magical and mysterious. Ann and Nancy looked absolutely gorgeous. They still do. And yes i had a crush on them.❤
Thanks so much for your kind words and support!! It’s great having you and hope you enjoy other great videos the channel had to offer 😃 We love hearing your experience on finding Heart!! ♥️
Hello you two! I remember way back when this song/album was released, and best of all I took a few drum courses with the first Heart drummer, Michael Derosier! He's a good guy. Actually I think it was him and Carmina Appice who taught the courses. Take care!
So the story goes that chugging guitar riff was "borrowed" from Nazareth ("This Flight Tonite") who they toured with. Apparently Nazareth were not pleased.
Hola chicos!!!
My local Fish & Chip shop is called Barracuda. Pretty certain it's not run by Canadian hard rockers! Incidentally, when Cameron Crowe made the movie Almost Famous, he was married to Nancy Wilson and they co-wrote some of the Stillwater songs that were featured.
I don’t really believe they were trying to fool anyone. This was common practice in this era. Boston, Journey, Kansas, Sabbath, and countless others have videos in this exact same format. The Boston video for More Than a Feeling and Kansas’ Carry On Wayward Son videos practically look like they may have been shot on the same stage on the same day.
Original Heart had three guitar players. Roger Fischer was lead. Howard Leese was rythym/lead and played keyboards. And Nancy generally played rythym acoustic but would later pick up more electric.
Thanks for reacting to this great Heart song. You commented that you thought Nancy Wilson normally played lead guitar and the solos. Nancy is an excellent guitarist and would occasionally do a solo, but it was usually when playing acoustic guitar. The electric guitar solos were mainly handled by Roger Fisher, as in this song, and Howard Leese. They were an amazingly talented band, both in the studio and in concert. Especially with their original band line-up, who performs in this video.
Yes, we all had a big crush on the Wilson sisters! I lived just 3 hours away from Seattle and wanted to go see them. But I had no money for gas and drivers license. Lol!😄
Where as Nancy is playing acoustic in the video, the band at that time had 2 other six stringer players, Roger Fisher and Howard Leese. all three could play lead.
There will never be music like the 70's and 80's... everyone was unique and brought something new.. nowadays everything is like films remakes, and copies.. lack of emotion in the music... can't wait for A.I. scam already poping up everywhere. Lol peace ✌️
'70's Heart was awesome... from the Dream Boat Annie album on, they were an extremely tight band with some would say folk, rock, and even prog elements but that was just the musical landscape at the time, you could venture where you liked. Their lineup back then Ann with front vocals strong and vibrant and Nancy played mostly acoustic and sang a song on each album... Roger Fisher (lead guitar) cowrote and coproduced much of their material. The Little Queen Album - where this track is from - is a must hear, most of it has songs with Celtic like folk elements of much of it is just to die for...
I’ve listened to Rush from the beginning. I couldn’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve listened to “Temples of Syrinx” Over the last few years I’ve become a bit of a metal head and the main reason for that is a Ukrainian band called Jinjer. Their front woman Tatiana can do things with her voice that still amaze me after several years. The first lines of their song “Cloud Factory” sounds like Geddy’s voice to me. I would love to see what you think of the comparison. Cheers from Texas folks! I love your reactions.
This "Barracuda" was their studio version synced up with some live footage. You can also find the real live footage out there. The Wilson sisters are extremely talented and still going today. I HIGHLY recommend as much Heart as possible (both live and studio) especially from their 70's progressive rock days. Some More Heart Recommendations: "Magic Man" Live 1976 (and Studio version) "Crazy on You" Live 1978 (and Studio version) "Love Alive" "Nada One" "Sing Child" "Heartless" "Without You" (Badfinger cover) "Cry to Me" "Say Hello" "Straight On" "Dog & Butterfly" "Mistral Wind"
Ann Wilson was sooo freakin' beautiful back then with that hair style too 😍. The riff was ahead of its time, would be a Thrash riff, palm-muted standard. The "Little Queen" album is becoming my favorite after some recent listens (as "Dog & Butterfly" has been my No. 1 for decades now). But that line-up that went up to "Private Auditions" (1982) was THEE "Heart". Its too bad their was a lot of animosity in the band. 1977 was a great year for AOR/Rock and Progressive Rock, and was the year I came back to California from Louisiana for 7 LONG years. The band members ON "Little Queen" were (with the instruments they played): *Ann Wilson* - lead vocals (tracks 1, 2, 4-6, 8-10); flute (track 2) *Nancy Wilson* - acoustic guitar (tracks 1, 2, 4, 6-9); autoharp (tracks 2, 4); vocals (tracks 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9); mandolin (tracks 3, 4); piano (track 5); electric guitar (tracks 7, 10); blues harp, lead vocals (track 7) *Roger Fisher* - lead guitar (tracks 1, 2, 5, 6, 10); mandolin (tracks 3, 4); electric guitar (tracks 8, 10) *Howard Leese* - lead guitar (track 1); Mellotron (tracks 1, 4); acoustic guitar, piano (track 2); vocals (tracks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10); Moog bass (tracks 3, 4); electric guitar (track 5); guitar (track 6); grand piano, string arrangements, string conducting (track 7); mandolin (track 8) *Michael DeRosier* - drums (tracks 1, 2, 5-8, 10); tabla (track 2); percussion (tracks 4, 8); timpani, chimes (track 10) *Steve Fossen* - bass (tracks 1, 2, 5-8, 10) You guys NEED to hear a GORGEOUS track from this same album . . . "Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer" (but Nick may have reacted to it, but can't find it). And a MUST reaction, look up; "Battle Of Evermore (Live) Heart HD" from 2003 Alive in Seattle (a much later line-up). Just as great as the Zep original! Btw - Funny Lexi saying that Ann sounds like Geddy and could do a tribute. Heart got their award at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame the SAME time RUSH did! They were in shock at the cheers they received. It was later in an interview that Ann did not know their music (except what she heard on the radio) and then said "I need to listen to their music". Yes! MORE Heart! - Tony
great songs, " Nothing at all" " Alone" " Crazy on you" " Who will you run to" " All i wanna do is make love to you" " Magic man" and the list of great songs goes on and on...
Heart were very inspired by Zeppelin. They covered Rock & Roll, Stairway To Heaven in their early days. Barracuda sounds similar to Achilles Last Stand. Love Alive like Stairway. Babe Le Strange like Kashmir. Their drummer is very Bonham esque, having a identical Ludwig Honey Maple kit with timps & gong
Hi Guys , love this song and this group is phenomenal. Their debut Album has to be one of the best debuts released by any artists. It is a complete masterpiece. They got into the Hall of Fame and did Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" live in front of Page and Plant. Heart have done numerous Led Zeppelin covers on their studio albums, but the best ever has to be , "Heart Live in Seattle > ' Battle of Evermore' " [ On u.t ] The performance is absolute perfection and the final 2 minutes is stunning !!! I have it on the live dvd and have played that track to death. It is just jaw dropping ! I just sat and cried, the 1st time I watched it, simply because they totally nailed it live ....and then some !!! Even if you don't do a reaction ...you need to see for yourselves. You will be watching again & again once seen. Byee Jim X ... The correct u.t video is by Rulie Arifin from 2003 "Alive in Seattle" - Battle of Evermore" With the title of the song on the screen as you scroll down.
My high school crush dream come true all time Diva Heroine Ann Wilson. Great surprise and fun reaction. No, we need to hear you jam and play Ketchup guitar, and Mustard bass to Barracuda. This should be a fun December looking forward to all the reactions.
Nancy Wilson didn't play lead guitar. She was a rhythm player mainly. The lead guitarist was Roger Fisher. Second guitarist/keyboardist howard Leese played lead occasionally as well. Rhythm section was Steve Fossen on bass & Mike DeRosier on drums. Killer band! check out the entire debut album 'Dreamboat Annie'..Fire! T
This is badass but it is the studio dubbed over an actual show. Look again and you can find this song played live here. It's cool. Sisters chiseled from some fine Rock.
And “Almost Famous” Cameron Crowe’s semi autobiographical movie and Nancy wrote some of the music because they were married at the time. By the way…us 1950’s babies did NOT have teen years like “Almost Famous”…I see comments like that sometimes but my parents would have never let me do anything like that! I went to concerts but beyond that, noooooo! lol!

The band was more than just the two sisters. Roger Fisher is the one behind so much of that awesome guitar work in the 70s. "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Crazy On You," "Straight On," they're all bangers.
When this came out it blew us away and my first thougt was why haven't female rock leads come out sooner.
Heart Were Huge Zeppelin Fans And Even Included Their Version Of "Rock'N Roll" On Their 1980 Greatest Hits Album.
The Barracuda was the devious record company executive.
I saw them live at Cal Jam II. Ann didn't need to scream her throat raw to 'belt' out a song. She had range and power.
Heart can’t fool us with the video - this is the studio version over band footage. Doesn’t matter though, still kicks ass.
"Mistral Wind" will blow Nick's mind. ESPECIALLY with Nick's reference to Robert Plant & Led Zeppelin.
I saw a few shows on this tour. Great time. Climax Blues Band opened for them. “Champagne and Rock and Roll Is What I’m Living On”.
Original Heart had three guitar players. Roger Fischer was lead. Howard Leese was rythym/lead and played keyboards. And Nancy generally played rythym acoustic but would later pick up more electric.
M'y fav band ever.. thank uu
This is a live performance. The video is on youtube and it is great!
Yes, we all had a big crush on the Wilson sisters! I lived just 3 hours away from Seattle and wanted to go see them. But I had no money for gas and drivers license. Lol!😄
Que lindo que hayan reaccionado a éste tema!!! Los felicito!!
Where as Nancy is playing acoustic in the video, the band at that time had 2 other six stringer players, Roger Fisher and Howard Leese. all three could play lead.
This is my late teen era, and my absolute favorite album is Dreamboat Annie. You will love it. The mood is sweet.
Anne never took singing lessons! That incredible voice was natural!
Heart - Kennedy Center Honors Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin
There will never be music like the 70's and 80's... everyone was unique and brought something new.. nowadays everything is like films remakes, and copies.. lack of emotion in the music... can't wait for A.I. scam already poping up everywhere. Lol peace ✌️
This galloping guitar riff was “borrowed” from Nazareth’s version of “This flight tonight “.
Crush is right! Ann and Nancy Wilson, Carly Simon, Stevie Nicks. Pretty easy to have crushes on all of them.
Muy bueno chicos!!!
The audio was the studio track, synced to a live performance as best they could. Still awesome, and I'd love to have heard the live performance.
To clarify, Heart was often referred to as the female Led Zeppelin and yes, all males had a crush on Ann, self included.
I couldn’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve listened to “Temples of Syrinx”
Over the last few years I’ve become
a bit of a metal head and the main reason for that is a Ukrainian band called Jinjer. Their front woman Tatiana can do things with her voice that still amaze me after several years. The first lines of their song “Cloud Factory” sounds like Geddy’s voice to me.
I would love to see what you think of the comparison. Cheers from Texas folks! I love your reactions.
Love the ELO retro T-shirt Alexa ❤
Nancy has always played Acoustic Roger Fischer is lead guitar and that was a TV show they were playing on. All in one day.
Roger Fisher was the true lead guitar player for the first four albums. Nancy was more rythym and sometime leads, Howard Leese played guitar and keys
The Wilson Sisters are/were fabulous!
Ann excludes feminine power perfectly, without trying to be masculine as so many others do
There is one band that matches Anne Wilson's vocals in Lzzy Hale of The Heavy Metal band Halestorm.
This brings back nightmares of my feeble attempts at Guitar Hero. 😂😂
This "Barracuda" was their studio version synced up with some live footage. You can also find the real live footage out there. The Wilson sisters are extremely talented and still going today. I HIGHLY recommend as much Heart as possible (both live and studio) especially from their 70's progressive rock days.
Some More Heart Recommendations:
"Magic Man" Live 1976 (and Studio version)
"Crazy on You" Live 1978 (and Studio version)
"Love Alive"
"Nada One"
"Sing Child"
"Heartless"
"Without You" (Badfinger cover)
"Cry to Me"
"Say Hello"
"Straight On"
"Dog & Butterfly"
"Mistral Wind"
The band members ON "Little Queen" were (with the instruments they played):
*Ann Wilson* - lead vocals (tracks 1, 2, 4-6, 8-10); flute (track 2)
*Nancy Wilson* - acoustic guitar (tracks 1, 2, 4, 6-9); autoharp (tracks 2, 4); vocals (tracks 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9); mandolin (tracks 3, 4); piano (track 5); electric guitar (tracks 7, 10); blues harp, lead vocals (track 7)
*Roger Fisher* - lead guitar (tracks 1, 2, 5, 6, 10); mandolin (tracks 3, 4); electric guitar (tracks 8, 10)
*Howard Leese* - lead guitar (track 1); Mellotron (tracks 1, 4); acoustic guitar, piano (track 2); vocals (tracks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10); Moog bass (tracks 3, 4); electric guitar (track 5); guitar (track 6); grand piano, string arrangements, string conducting (track 7); mandolin (track 8)
*Michael DeRosier* - drums (tracks 1, 2, 5-8, 10); tabla (track 2); percussion (tracks 4, 8); timpani, chimes (track 10)
*Steve Fossen* - bass (tracks 1, 2, 5-8, 10)
You guys NEED to hear a GORGEOUS track from this same album . .
Their drummer is very Bonham esque, having a identical Ludwig Honey Maple kit with timps & gong
you youngsters missed out on so much, Ann and Nancy Wilson were the bomb, i miss my roc an roll!!! and my country!.
I went to concerts but beyond that, noooooo! lol!
So good plus many more. My 2 favs are 'Magic Man' and especially 'Dreamboat Annie'.
I so love Heart. Unfortunately, I never got to see them in concert, so I will likely die with a broken heart :(
Barracuda,siiiii
Heart Live in Seattle 2002, the acoustic version of "Alone." Trust me!
Fur Ball at time mark 10:49 !!!!!
