    I'm a big comic reader but I don't collect graded books. However, I love watching you talk about collecting them and showing off the stuff you get. You have a really good channel. I hope you keep it up and post often 😊

      I'm starting to read more and more like I used to as a kid. It's a lot of fun. What's your favorite series to read?
      Thanks, appreciate you watching and commenting!

      @momoonocollects Sandman is probably my favorite series ever. I have all the Absolute editions. But I recently started buying a bunch of the old Marvel Comics Presents I had as a kid but lost. There's one really great story that goes thru 6 issues. Its about Wolverine, pre adamantium, in northern Montana, partnered with a Blackfoot Indian kid, fighting a huge Lovecraftian worm creature. I believe it was published in '93. Big dose of nostalgia but the writing holds up. Very good story.

    I started a spreadsheet and tried sticking to a plan when I started. Best decision I made. Unfortunately, my list keeps changing so sticking to a list if definitely easier said than done!

    1. Collect what you like
    2. Don't collect to get 'rich'
    3. Factor in the cost
    4. Connect the dots with characters you like for potential keys
    5. Get familiar with the writers and artists. This will open you to new books.

    Good advice and general tips. Another thing to focus how you start is to set an era, e.g., silver, bronze, copper, modern, then narrow to certain companies, certain characters, etc. And another good tip for new collectors to not be overwhelmed and caught up in "keepin' up with the joneses" or fear of missing out. It will save you a lot of frustration if you're also trying to adhere to Momo's tip about a budget. Unless you're a zillionaire, you can't keep up or catch up, and you will miss out, so it's best to just focus on what you can accomplish within your budget. All good tips to avoid buyer's remorse!

    I watched TH-cam videos for a few days and then I started. I got 4 more cheap Wolverine comics today. It is fun to hunt for some cool covers. Going to try a different local shop in the near future. Hunting for Wolverine!
    It seems like many of them are from the late 80's and 90's. They look like they are in good condition. I only have 2 shops near me, I might have to travel one day.
    Good tips! I will be using those tips for sure. Especially the budget one. Maybe one day i'll try to get some more expensive Wolverine. He does not seem to get much love in price for comics like Superman or others.
    Do you have any Wolverine comics?

      That's awesome! Wolverine books are fun. The biggest Wolverine book I have is Giant Size X-Men 1, but I'm on the hunt for a Hulk 181

      🤣My bad. I think comics are awesome and collecting is the best hobby I've ever had. Just think there are better investments in terms of return out there. If you're looking for enjoyment plus returns long term, comics are a fun place to put some of your money

    Anyone new to collecting comics, should avoid buying new books off the shelf, and graded books, all together. The prices and value are just too high. I'd suggest they read a few omnibus' (used or library copies), to see what appeals to them, or you can even read the books online, depending. Your interest is what maters, as in horror, superhero, funnies, etc. Look for deals, dollar bins, or small collections, once you get a general idea in what you enjoy reading. Reading, very important, read the books, just don't buy them, put them in a pile, and check an issue off your list and tell yourself you will read it later. If there is any second thoughts by a collector at this point, and they wish to just stop, then there is no real regret in what money you have spent if it is reasonable low. As for purchasing key comics, key issues, you need to know how to grade comics. In today's market, there is too much speculation and prices will be higher, as you find higher grades. Knowing how to grade will save you money even if it is a VG copy of a key book that interests you. If higher grades do appeal to you, then you really are just collecting the grade, and it will cost you, which can lead to you losing interesting in the hobby all together. You can purchase a well presenting copy of a key issue, without having it being slabbed. At this point, sometimes collectors do not realize that they have gone from collecting, to investing. Some collectors that do have a higher budget, can afford to purchase graded copies(slabbed), and can say that they have a well presenting collection, but in the long run, they are making an investment wether they know it or not. The last point, take care of your books if you consider yourself a collector. You do not want to have to rebuy an issue due to negligence. A simple bag and board, then boxing, can keep your collection organized and easily accesible, and reduce the wear and tear when rereading a run, or series.

    You said your budget is $6k but in your last video you spent $10k on a few books.

    • @momoonocollects
      @momoonocollects  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for pointing that out! Sorry I wasn't more clear. When I began collecting I decided my budget was $6k per book, and all the big books I bought were that price
      In the years since, I have realized how enjoyable the hobby is and have adjusted my budget to accommodate bigger books like the ones you've seen, shifting more towards a percentage of net worth rather than a specific dollar amount
      Was just using the $6k number because that's what I used when starting out. Hope that clarifies things, thanks for continuing to watch!

    hate to burst your bubble but you say you dont want to be a flipper/speccer but if you are only investing in keys you are exactly both of those things because all you care about is what they will be worth and dont want to them lose value over time. you went with the safe picks that will gain value over time.. exactly what you claimed you dont want to do. if you actually intended to keep them until death then it would not matter if they they where 1.0s and full of tears and creases. you are very much a flipper/speculator. the whole slab thing also sort of shows you have no intention on actually reading them or letting whoever you pass them on to read them.. you purely only care about value.

    • @momoonocollects
      @momoonocollects  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are right that I invest in well presenting keys that I enjoy and display. Flipper and speculator I am not as I don't buy books to resell and I don't buy books because I think they're going to make a quick buck
      I'm also going to have to disagree that if I held them forever I need to buy books in poor condition. I don't see how that even makes sense in the first place, but also I don't want books that don't display well
      I don't understand how having them in a slab means I only care about value. Do you not collect things in your life? The hunt and owning them is all part of the fun. Also, how do you know I don't read books? Because I surely do. I buy raw books all the time and also read them digitally
      Thanks for watching, appreciate the comment!
