      Deja bien enlever le charbon, avec une brosse métallique. Ensuite tu peux toujours le nettoyer avec de l’alcool mais perso, j’essaie de garder l’odeur au maximum. Peut être ton tonneau à mal vieilli et pourri?

    How did you get the inside of the barrel to stop smelling.

    • @PierreVennen
      @PierreVennen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For my build, usually simply brushing with a metal wire brush is enough, but if it goes wrong... maybe use a strip of sulfur like for wine barrel cleaning? It will kill the bacteria or fungus I there. Blow torch the whole inside, mad re brush again. Hope that’s helpful!

      No, those are plug in LED lights. First the strips didn’t work well so I went for under cabinet LED spotlights.

    What do you use for sanding down the outside of the barrel?

    • @PierreVennen
      @PierreVennen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robbie, it depend but usually I don't really sand there barrel. Grinder is my best option with sanding disk if you need to sand it. Hope that's helpful. Let me know how your project is doing!

    • @robbiehearle6164
      @robbiehearle6164 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pierre Vennen I’ve got two barrels on the go at the moment. First time doing it. See your screws that you put in the bands Through to the staves, are they in every stave or do you have a method?

    • @PierreVennen
      @PierreVennen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robbie Hearle I do have a method, if you watch the video you can clearly see how I proceed. You definitely want the staves to be secured for when the cask is completely dry. A screw on each staves is a good method to prevent any issue.

  • @scott1881
    @scott1881 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was it a stain or an oil you used on the barrel and did you do anything to the bands or just leave them as is after sanding them down. I'm about to do this and not sure what to finish the barrel with. Looks great

    • @PierreVennen
      @PierreVennen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SNC C hey! I’ve used stain on the cask end before to oil the whole cask with danish oil :) make sure your hoops are very clean before to oil them! Send me some pictures and good luck!!

    @Fait Maiz
    how is your experience with the cask after one year finished building? I'm about to start a similar project with a whiskey cask but heard different opinions about how to work against the wood drying out and resulting in gaps. Some separate every stave of the barrel and glue them together, you mainly used screws. Do you have long-term experience in having the cask placed indoors (maybe livning room with heating in the winter) ?
    Super inspirational video btw! I really like it

    • @PierreVennen
      @PierreVennen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The barrel will mature and dry further. Securing the hoops and cask ends with screws is my best options. Keep oiling the cask time to time to help with the drying. My first bar-rel is now 6 years old, in my living room, no problem. Yes there is some gaps between the staves and the barrel shrink a little, but I love it this way. Hope that helps!
