Around 1972/73 my oldest brother rolled his ‘70 beetle and smashed in the top. He drove it that way for about a year until he found another body then he and my brothers swapped out the bodies in the side yard of our parents house. I haven’t seen a bare rolling VW pan since then! This is a great project!

Looking great. It's such a good feeling when you start out with scrap and it ends up looking and being new! Taking an angled reading on the spring plate whilst it's on the stops won't tell you anything. You need to set the angle whilst the plates are not rested on the stop.

    • @vayabroder729
      @vayabroder729 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Right on on the spring plate readings; if they’re on the stops you cannot measure anything; they’ll be in the same place all the time. The point of that is to measure the resistance or stiffness of the torsion bars.

Great video and very instructive even without dialogue. I've watched many VW restos and done my own too. One thing I wish you could help us all with, even though it might be hard to do, would be to talk about part costs as you go through the process. No one ever tells how much it costs to do these. Since you are doing the whole thing, it might help others know what they might expect to dole out. I keep a log, but hearing it at points along the way would be great.

I love it. A '66 Beetle was bought new by me as my first car after high school graduation. As a kid I unfortunately drove it into the ground prematurely. I'd love to have another to treat much better this time.

I've seen you disassemble a couple cars... But this build is the best!!!
Back in 1978 I my 1st car was a 65 Beetle, Beige with a sliding metal sunroof. I loved it. But when they broke down, they were just finished...my car had a solid floor pan, after 2 motor jobs, I found a 67 beetle... best of luck!!

Excellent job, I refurbished a 1956 Chevy Stepside pick-up truck in South Africa recently taking 16 years to complete as all the work was meticulously refurbished just as you have done here. The only exception was that I used a copper based anti-siege grease on all chassis and body nuts and bolts. I sadly sold it last year as I returned to the UK. Keep up the good work

Thank you CT … I just got my 65’ in my name here in cali.. I didn’t want to start the same project until I had a pink slip for it.. Due to my age I’m going to just put it together and get it running it looks and is just as worn out as your’s was .. I just got some rims for it and a later 1776 alternator engine with the dog house oil cooler.. yesterday I picked up a 66’ front hood and looking for some windwing doors… it has a couple California window doors in it now.. need to find front and rear seats and then I’ll have most of the body stuff except for front and rear bumpers.. hopefully by August I’ll be able to take a cruise with another friend that has a 65’.. thank you for such an awesome series of videos.. I’ll be doing my own but it won’t be as awesome as yours.. it’ll be a quick and dirty put put around towner… too many projects and not enough thyme.. like you, I’m more interested in the mechanical, side sticking with original patina as well.. maybe.. or just grey primer..

    Dear Reader,
The Roman Senator Cato always seems to have ended his speeches in the Roman senat with the sentence: "By the way, I'm of the opinion that Carthago have to be destroyed".
This is an important and possitive step in the reconstruction of the VW Beetle, very well executed by Mr. CT. Well, done, Sir.
By the way, I'm of the opinion that the VW Ghia has to be restored after this project.
Once, the Roman Senat decided that they indeed would destroy Carthago. So perhaps my remark will help to restore the VW Ghia in the near future.
    I do hope so.
    Michel F. van den Brun
Viewer, started to watch the chanel of Mr. CT, at the moment he reconstructed the Ghia.

im still praying that you find it in your heart to NOT leave the ugly rust.
i love the work done to the frame it really makes me wish i still had my 62'. (it was sold from under me by my step dad)
im curious, if someone was to embark into this type of restoration. at this point (frame and suspension)
What type of budget would one need to get to this point?
Youve definitely inspired me, ive always wanted to do a bug in cream sickle colorway. a nice orange with creme or off white.
on air bags, slammed lots of chrome.
