The SNES version is best port of FF Special, even the best 16bit SNK fighting game. This Japanese version came out earlier than the NTSC-US version and it clearly wasn't optimized, there were still some bugs in it and the specials aren't as smooth to execute.

This port is very good yes! but tbh my favorite 16-bit Snk game is Fatal Fury 2 on the Sega Genesis, have a new combo system and you have more than 20 color per character to select.

@@violentkim yes, FF2 on Genesis is good but I like FFS a little bit more, it has more fighters, more stages and way better sound/graphics.

@@021881mt I like FFS on SNES better. It's more accurate to the original, the Genesis' FF2 doesn't even have a point system and looks quite ugly with poor colors and sound. I also own both cartridges. Yea, different opinions.

@@021881mt games like Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting aren't supposed to be played "fast". If I like to play a fast one, I play Killer Instinct f.e. Fatal Fury 2 on the Genesis is a funny game and it's better than FF2 in the SNES, without a doubt, but it can't reach FF Special. In FF2 Gen they modified the gameplay so much with those unnecessary multiple hits in one move (the so called combos!) and changed the special move inputs, there is no satisfying hitting sound, no size difference of the fighters in the two lanes etc., played in "fast" it's like a entirely different game. The only thing it has common with the original is the name and the characters. Don't get me wrong, like I said, it's good in his own way but I prefer FFS. Where the SNES FF2 tries to be accurate to the original, and it works so far, it's a very good 32meg fighting game with 16 very diverse characters, that rivals Street Fighter 2 for me as well, yesterday I played it for two hours after commenting, very addicting and satisfying. Sorry for my bad English.

@@021881mt watch a playtrough of FF2 or Special (or better: play it) and you will see it's NOT fast. Those games are meant to be played with some tactic like cancels and not to rush trough by spamming moves. It's also not King of Fighters, Mark of the Wolves or something other of the later SNK games, it's still Fatal Fury. I think both of our points are valid, after all they are different games and every player is prefering different game aspects and that's okay. By the way, I Just want to mention, you're right, Art of Fighting on SNES isn't a good game, yes, it has the zoom effect included but gameplay wise it's quite dull. The second part "Ryukko no Ken 2" is better (and technical even more impressive) but it's also still not my case. but I also don't like the Genesis version of AoF, it's just an average one, I rather play the AES original.

It's the best port of the game imo.
