Overall: MD/Gen is best here. I used to own both but the audio on SNES Ver is dreadful as is the gameplay. The MD version, although resolution is a bit rough, actually plays really well. The audio is awesome all round too. Shame about Hwa and Billy being omitted but it's not a deal breaker. I actually enjoy "playing" the MD version > NEO version if I'm honest, even today. I just have more fun when playing it...
Very difficult choice! The good on Genesis: playability, dual layers planes, no fake bonus stages, no useless score counter, intro, no black bars, you can play with all characters in 2P mode, cutscenes. The good on SNES: graphics, Hwa Jai and Billy Kane (very important thing). For me Genesis wins narrowly. Thank you so much for that comparison!
Genesis Pro: All Characters playable for both players in two player vs. mode. Dual layer planes like the original arcade. Con: Hwa Jai and Billy Kane are missing. SNES Pro: Hwa Jai and Billy Kane inclusion. Con: No dual planes, Only 2nd player has access to boss characters in vs. mode.
Personally, I just don't get WHY they had to omit 2 characters from the Genesis version... I mean, BOTH versions were of the same cart size (12 megs). Street Fighter II on the SNES was only 16 megs and look at what a FINE port that was; nobody was really complaining about it! 🤔
@@diobrando-qv3uv Yes, there are PAR codes for both versions that can let you play as any character you like in the 1P story mode... Never really tried 'em out to see if they're buggy or not tho. But if the codes DO work flawlessly, then it's really got the Neo Geo version beat!
Snes would trump the megadrive mostly in graphics but the actual execution and playablity of a port was always in the sega versions i've found in my experience and the FM music sounds awesome to boot.
Curious VCDECIDE, would PAL vs NTSC versions be mentioned? Between each console the differences between 50 and 60hz, & resolutions? I find this part of gaming very interesting, this and boundary breaks. As on snes the hit detection areas I find to be much more forgiving.
I never thought I’d say a Genesis fighting game looked better and had better sound than a SNES one, but the Mega Drive/Genesis version of Fatal Fury is easily the better game here. I know some of the voices are a little clearer on the SNES, but it’s completely missing some voices, and the death yell on the MD/GEN is way better than the SNES echo death yell.
MD WINS I was always surprised at how ingenious the Takara programmers were for MD; while in Snes the programmers resize the original image of NG to a lower resolution those of MD recreated from scratch the background and of course the Sprites of the characters in order to try to make them large in high resolution but odtimize the weight of memory they required; Thanks to this they were able to keep the cinematic intermediates, the three climatic states on the stages unlike the month that only has two, and most importantly have the original fighting system in two backgrounds. It is true that in the end they cut off Billy and the Mutai fighter, but at one point it is still a better conversion than Snes'.
I have this very Game English version on Neo Geo AES, I appreciate this I rented both SNES (1993) and Genisis (1994) versions way before I 've ever touched the Neo-Geo version (2017) 🙏☯️😎 I only have the Neo-Geo version now till this day...the (King version) yet I love and want them all! 😉 what a story of the time line of my comment. Okay! Between the SNES and Sega Genesis? Although the SNES has tinier and more compressed graphics with 256 colors it has more Ummmpth! Yet SNES seems more wow 🧐 must I address Howard Geese falls off a building on a Neo Geo version the end! Like I said the king Neo-Geo AES writtenin GOLD !!!!
O bicho vai pegar! Snes x Mega é aquele Fla x Flu. A do Mega, joguei bastante.
There is a big error here. The SNES version also let you play as the "enemy characters" in VS mode, bust just for 1 of the side ( I cant remember is it was 1p or 2p) Sadly and agian in SNES the gameplay to perform many special moves make the game impossible to play freely. Since many of the enemies didnt own too many special moves, each SNES and Genesis versions have their own versions of new customed moves for those characters.
I think they behind schedule, and just RUSHED the SNES version out and totally forgot to even test the controls... It's a FIGHTING GAME, for crying out loud; the controls NEED TO WORK!!!
This game has a few caractirstics that makes it better on snes or genesis depending what we want to see... the snes version has better sound (clearer), and most stages has better details (not all of them but Raiden's or Geese are a good example), then the major difference is that is has 2 more charactes , 2 more stages and 2 more themes (as well as the bonus stages wich no one cares for)... ,music is acording to preference as both are good so i draw this a tie (tough in this case i like a lil more the genesis one). Then it cames the things in wich genesis is better, the genesis version has the 2 layers to fight in (but there is a flow when comming from the back layer in wich you cannot roll back to the front and make you jump always , this is something the cpu abuse over and over), and the major difference is the gameplay, the game has a differente speed gameplay, the control of the character is changed to respond faster and with differente frames and hit boxes, and this is different from the neo geo game as well (wich is basically the same as the snes one), this change alone makes the genesis version a better product (even better than the neo geo one), as it makes the game faster and more responsive. But overall that's MY opinion, when it comes to look at this versus it all comes to: Snes with better looks , more characters, more stages, and more music vs Genesis with 2 fighting layers and better response on the characters.
I disagree. Genesis takes the win. The voice samples in the snes version may a little bit better but the music is way more better on the Genesis. The music on snes sounds like a blow with a trumpet. For me an easy decision: Genesis have better gameplay, a VS-Mode and bigger sprites. The Snes more stages and mini games.
@@pixelperfectpaddy BOTH versions could've benefited VASTLY from a few more extra megs of cartridge memory, but the Genesis version will always be the one with faster gameplay, better hit detection, and smoother controls!
Takara's incompetence with the SNES hardware is strong in this one, a sluggish mess of a port with horrible sound. A easy win for the Mega Drive, still, this game sucked in the arcades
The presentation on Genesis/MD is outstanding, but the battles look better on SNes, despite the fact there's no 2 layers plan. That one is difficult to decide... 🤔
I prefer the MD/Gen version. The gameplay is closer to the arcade (enemy opponents can plane switch) and even has the story cutscenes after each fight just like in the arcade/neo geo version. the snes/sfc version does have better music and graphics and includes billy kane and hwa jai.
I thought Genesis was gonna take it. After playing both...I think the SNES is a bit better. Graphics, sounds is better on the SNES. Genesis has better presentation but lacks almost everything else.
NO BLACK BARS IN GAMES LIKE KILLER INSTINCT OR RENDERING RANGER and many more for SNES. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE PROCESSOR, IT'S ABOUT THE MEGS AND HOW YOU USE THEM. And i think KILLER INSTINCT IS A MUCH MORE COMPLEX GAME THAN FATAL FURY AND NO IT DOESN'T MISS ANY CHARACTER.
the snes is a garbage port! characters are smaller and hit detection controller is very bad unplayable sound is awful too.the snes version also didnt had the 2 plane system the megadrive version is a superior game with larger sprites on characters.it had the 2 plane system . and a 2 player VS with all fighters including geese howard as a secret via code
Genesis wins this one. Sure, it doesn’t have all of the characters and the graphics aren’t as good, but it makes up for it in multiple ways. First of all, you get to play against the main characters in story mode, so it still kinda feels like you’re getting the full story. Second, the music and sfx are way better on the genesis, while some of the sound effects on the snes sound like something you’d hear on an Atari 2600 (such as when geese throws his projectile). Third, the plane system was completely removed from the snes version, making it feel more like a street fighter clone. Lastly, the game plays much better on genesis. The controls are tight and responsive on this version, while on the snes version, the controls are very delayed and special moves don’t work half the time. I find it hard to believe that both versions were made by the same company, since they’re so different from each other.
I agree with alot of your thoughts. But to me the genesis sound and music sounds horrible. The snes version sounds better. Having missing fighters in the genesis version is inexcusable. But yes gameplay is way better on genesis compared to snes version. But thats not saying much as fatal fury 1 was a horrible game from the get go. Ff2 was way better.
Ismael Tirado I guess the music comes down to personal preference, to me the melodies come out better on genesis. However I think both versions messed up raiden’s theme. It sounds too abrasive on genesis, and on snes it sounds off key. And yeah I’m not sure why some characters are missing in the genesis version, because I seriously doubt it was because of memory constraints, but at the same time, the snes version is missing the two-plane system, which was basically the key feature to this game. I personally don’t think the original arcade version is bad, but it’s certainly not the best fighting game ever made, not even close.
@@malmal2148 your spot on there. Hell ssmurai showdown on genesis was the same issue with earthquake missing entirely. But looked much closer than the arcade version than snes. Snes had all characters at the expense of smaller sprites and lack of camera zoom in feature and was also censored. Genesis haad the camera zoomed in a bit to much and has some of the gore if i recall correctly.
Ismael Tirado some people like the FM sound bank and some people don’t. That’s really where preference comes in. FM sounds more “actiony” to me, which is it sticks with most people when playing a fighter. Just edgier and more rugged. To each is own though and depends on what you like to hear when fighting
@@eppskevin doesnt make it any less right or wrong. Like you said it comes down to personal prefrence. To me it sounds like shit. Having said that there are genesis games that the music sounds awesome as hell, streets of rage soundtrack comes to mind as does phantasy star 4.
Of course Genesis wins this port .. I always have no idea who SNES always have those 16:9 game play in 90’s .. at that time .. all gamer will impress when the TV screen got fill up totally ..
Kind of hilarious that the SNES uses the same farting sound effects from opening doors in Super Mario World, when guys punch or bounce off the ground. The Genesis sound effects are not much better to be fair.
Endings in a nutshell: Neo-Geo: Dramatic Terry kicks Geese and, while falling, he starts screaming on agony and then dies. Genesis: Hilarious Terry uses power wave, pushing Geese away from the screen and disappears. SNES: Duh. Terry kicks Geese and he simply dies, without show him falling from the building.
I have no frame of reference for the Genesis port, having never played it, but the SNES version just isn't much fun to play. Regardless of the bells and whistles a game has, if it fails to be fun, it fails as a game.
It was one of Takara's very first Neo Geo ports on the SNES... And from what I could still remember from the previews in gaming magazines back in late '91, it was originally supposed to be one of the launch titles. They clearly RUSHED this game out, and prolly weren't too familiar with the hardware yet?
Please compare Fatal Fury Special for Snes and Genesis... Oh, the Genesis port doesn't even exist. One more thing, i remember games like Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter 2,etc, which feature those black bars as well on the Genesis ports, so you can never be really sure when they decided to do it that way. By the way, no black bars in Killer Instinct, Rendering Ranger, etc, for Snes. But you don't say those things.
Even though the Snes has a better color palette(like always) and some stage backgrounds look better the Megadrive port wins this time: - Two layer gameplay, missing in Snes. - Much better presentation with bigger and better sprites. - VS mode where you can pick every character, even Geese. - Much better music, while in Snes is a mess. - Raiden looks better. It seems the MD port takes advantage of the CPU, while the Snes port is a lazy one.
The controls are also more responsive on the Genesis version... I think this is due to the 2.5x faster processor speed being able to read the inputs alot better?
FF special no SNES eles lavaram.
I feel like saying Fatal Fury could've been better than Street Fighter 2 but failed kinda misrepresents what type of game Fatal Fury was designed to be in the comparison. SF2 was unique at the time by focusing on being a 1v1 2p fighting game and that lead it to be successful and creating the modern fighting game design. Fatal Fury 1 was the spiritual sequel to SF1 and that was not a 1v1 2p fighter being released next to SF2 and still being a fighting game there are a lot of similarities but Fatal Fury wasn't trying to be like SF2 until Fatal Fury 2 and switched to a standard 1v1 2p fighter. If you compare Fatal Fury to SF1 you can see how it evolved and improved in a proper comparison.

Por favor me digam, cadé as 256 cores simultânea? Cade 512x368? Kkkkkkkkk.

@@Adertitsoff999 Well, nothing I can really add. I agree, on all points tbh. I have never, ever liked the 3 button MD controller. I'd say that's what firmly put me in the SNES camp growing up. Controllers are MASSIVELY important to the gaming experience itself. You're right re: DC too. No idea what they were thinking going in with a single stick after the dual shock paved the way. And, less buttons than the Saturn Pad? I never particularly like the rather large Saturn Analog pad either tbh. Terrible form factor. Only kudos I can grant here is the usage of analog triggers. A good innovation tbh 👍
Basically Snes had better graphics, Genesis had better music. They both have slight pros and cons, but what they have most in common is THEY BOTH SUCK! I remember when the arcade MVS version came out, I was blown away and Fatal Fury quickly became my all-time favorite fighter. I was so disappointed when the Snes version came out.... I would turn the volume off so I could at least imagine what the music/effects were supposed to sound like lmao Takara dropped the ball on this conversion big time.
Unlike Fatal Fury 2 and Special, Fatal Fury 1 has aged rather poor. Both of those ports are not complete and they play very clunky. The Genesis version is a little better, but compared to other FTGs on both systems it's really not worth to play.

I love very much Super Nintendo/Famicom.

Overall, I agree. As much as I like the SNES, the Mega Drive takes the round here easily
Genesis missing characters are you on a different planet
23:07 That Reppuu Ken sound effect on the SNES port is pure gold lmao. The sound effects on that port are so hilarious, i really love it.
23:15 Genesis Version: *REEHPPEEHKHEN!*
Parallax Scrolling rocks! Thank you VCDECIDE!
Siempre excelentes Comparaciones 👍
Nah the snes port is bad imo.
I used to think Terry was saying police! When we was doing the power wave
Sweet
Ahhhh weeeeh!
...but I have to admit that police is quite accurate ;)
I heard "old wheat" back then. 😆
I used to think he was saying "C'mon wind!!!" & had some minor power over the element of wind. Lol 😆. On the Snes of course
MEGA WINS!
Yet SNES seems more wow 🧐 must I address Howard Geese falls off a building on a Neo Geo version the end! Like I said the king Neo-Geo AES writtenin GOLD !!!!
Only 2P side. P1 is forced to use the Bogard bros. or Joe. Quite stupid!
The Genesis version left out Hwa and Billy, and the SNES version omitted the plane switching gimmick.
Neo-Geo wins.
But overall that's MY opinion, when it comes to look at this versus it all comes to:
Snes with better looks , more characters, more stages, and more music
vs
Genesis with 2 fighting layers and better response on the characters.
@@pixelperfectpaddy did you actually read me well? XD
@@pixelperfectpaddy And the IRONY here, is that Nintendo has always stressed 'gameplay over graphics'... 🤔

Takara's incompetence with the SNES hardware is strong in this one, a sluggish mess of a port with horrible sound.
A easy win for the Mega Drive, still, this game sucked in the arcades
No it didn't suck it just hasn't aged well it's only decent.
The presentation on Genesis/MD is outstanding, but the battles look better on SNes, despite the fact there's no 2 layers plan. That one is difficult to decide... 🤔
Trust me the Genesis plays miles better.
“Put her in the car” (Michael Max)
This game or fatal fury 2? Which one is more fun?
And i think KILLER INSTINCT IS A MUCH MORE COMPLEX GAME THAN FATAL FURY AND NO IT DOESN'T MISS ANY CHARACTER.
the snes is a garbage port! characters are smaller and hit detection controller is very bad unplayable sound is awful too.the snes version also didnt had the 2 plane system
the megadrive version is a superior game with larger sprites on characters.it had the 2 plane system .
and a 2 player VS with all fighters including geese howard as a secret via code
O fato do fake widescreen acho válido, fica igual o Street.
No question! No escape on Nintendo like the Arcade! Sega wins!
A versão do Mega foi a melhor. Só o Tiger Kick do Joe Higashi me deixou boquiaberto. A versão do SNES era lenta e graficamente pior.
The controls are FUCKED... Forget about getting any special moves to work in this game!
Of course Genesis wins this port .. I always have no idea who SNES always have those 16:9 game play in 90’s .. at that time .. all gamer will impress when the TV screen got fill up totally ..
They were prolly thinking AHEAD??? 😆
Kind of hilarious that the SNES uses the same farting sound effects from opening doors in Super Mario World, when guys punch or bounce off the ground. The Genesis sound effects are not much better to be fair.
Endings in a nutshell:
Neo-Geo: Dramatic
Terry kicks Geese and, while falling, he starts screaming on agony and then dies.
Genesis: Hilarious
Terry uses power wave, pushing Geese away from the screen and disappears.
SNES: Duh.
Terry kicks Geese and he simply dies, without show him falling from the building.
Sega Wins !!!!
I have no frame of reference for the Genesis port, having never played it, but the SNES version just isn't much fun to play. Regardless of the bells and whistles a game has, if it fails to be fun, it fails as a game.
I did not know the SNES version had loading times
It was one of Takara's very first Neo Geo ports on the SNES... And from what I could still remember from the previews in gaming magazines back in late '91, it was originally supposed to be one of the launch titles. They clearly RUSHED this game out, and prolly weren't too familiar with the hardware yet?
Honestly both ports can't hold a candle to the arcade
Please compare Fatal Fury Special for Snes and Genesis... Oh, the Genesis port doesn't even exist. One more thing, i remember games like Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter 2,etc, which feature those black bars as well on the Genesis ports, so you can never be really sure when they decided to do it that way. By the way, no black bars in Killer Instinct, Rendering Ranger, etc, for Snes. But you don't say those things.
Even though the Snes has a better color palette(like always) and some stage backgrounds look better the Megadrive port wins this time:
- Two layer gameplay, missing in Snes.
Mega drive wins!!! As usual
SNES have a funny ko sound
Mega Drive Win!
They both lose
FF special no SNES eles lavaram. Hehehe)
Abraço
Sega Genesis version is alot more fun!
Well, at least it's PLAYABLE... On the SNES version, the controls are SO BAD that you can hardly even do ANY special moves!
The Genesis port is incomplete, but the SNES port is hardly even playable!

Releasing the Saturn (a 3d console) without an analog stick and then releasing the DC without a 2nd analog stick 😂 It's comical how much of an afterthought controllers were to SEGA 😂🤣😂🤣😂 Or maybe it wasn't an afterthought and they knew 10-15% of you Sega heads would pay them more money for another controller. Kind of like Xbots 😂 the more I talk about it the more I see how similar XboX and Sega are 😂🤣😂🤣

Well, nothing I can really add.
Geese said *Holy Geese!!* instead of *Holy cow!!* in the Genesis port XDDDDDD
I think goes better than the Arcade translation
Anybody that thinks the SNES is better is a delusional Nintendo fanboy.
Lol sega #2. =💩
