Some years ago my dog looked so thin you could literally see his ribcage. Back then, looking at him, you might have thought I was starving my dog, even though he ate a lot, every day. A woman I knew back then told me my dog had worms. Which is why he looked so thin, and you could see his ribcage. The worms were consuming his food faster than he could digest it. She told me I should add garlic powder to my dog's food. She said she does it for her dogs. The garlic would deworm him, naturally. So I did. And he started filling out. His ribcage disappeared . But recently I read on Google, that garlic was poisonous to dogs. And I have been adding garlic to my dog's food . Not daily, but often. And most times, I added one clove, a little minced, or one capsule of the garlic supplement I take, daily. Figuring, that while garlic powder is good, minced is better, and whole fresh garlic is best. But having watched a few videos on TH-cam, and reading your comment, I'm confused as to, whether I should discontinue putting garlic in his food, limit it to garlic powder, or not more than one small clove, (diced) a day, or not to exceed one teaspoon of minced. Comments are welcome, as, I'm not opposed to being educated.
I bought a large supply of a garlic supplement from Springtime Supplements and would like to finish using it before beginning to feed fresh garlic. How do you equate mg of a tablet garlic supplement to a clove of fresh garlic? Each tablet contains 1000 mg of garlic and 350 mg of active dry yeast. The daily maintenance dose according to the bottle is 1/4 to 1 tablet daily for a 20 lb dog, and double or triple doses are recommended in areas of high infestation or during surge seasons of spring and fall. My dog is 16 pounds and I've been giving her 1 tablet daily for over a year. However, this past season I've found 3 ticks on her and just recently discovered fleas. Clearly the supplement isn't working, but I'm hesitant to increase the dosage too much, as I'm not sure of her breed status in regard to garlic. She's a pomeranian, and I think I recall the need for caution when giving garlic to spitz varieties of dogs. What would you consider a safe dosage of a tablet supplement for my dog?
Thank you! I've eaten garlic regularly for decades, and have also given some to my dogs in their meals as well! Every dog has had it daily, in a few small, cut up pieces in their meal - a really low dose - for the many health benefits that garlic has to offer.
Thank you so much. It’s total insanity the things they tell not to do in comparison to the days of our pets eating our leftovers to today where they are quaxcinated ... not mine! Thank you again I will add garlic to my little ones diet as directed by you.
What about sprouted garlic? some studies state sprouted garlic has higher antioxidant activity and better for health. But I also read sprouting garlic makes it bitter. So I am wondering it creates any compound toxic for dogs. Do you have any idea on whether sprouted garlic is safe for dogs?
My 14 month old Boxer refuses to eat his meals with garlic in it. Is there other way to give it to him that would still be beneficial but less of a pungent smell or should I just give up on it?
Thank you for all the wonderful information you provide. You and Dr Karen Becker are my go to when I’m not sure about something. Also DNM is a trusted source for most of my boy’s supplements
I try very hard never to miss your videos. I purchase many products from Four Leaf Rover and feed fresh only. Here's my question. There are a few ingredients that I see all over social media and I want to know, do we use them or not? Organic Greek yogurt, Organic Kefir, raw cow milk or even raw goat milk and the latest is raw Bison milk. My head hurts🤣 People place their frozen treats on meals. Could you shed light? Should we feed any of this dairy? Thank you. Your knowledge is beyond appreciated.

He is likely still following the old research where dogs were force fed heads and heads of garlic. Way too much for a dog! Too much of anything can be toxic :)
Thank you for sharing!! Great information,..my pup is predominantly an Anatolian Shepherd with a bit of German Shepherd in her,..right now she weighs 53 pounds,..we are working to help her gain some weight back since when we adopted her she was on Apoquel and she lost weight,..she was 65 pounds in May/June of this year,..looked at her med records,..since having her we took her to a holistic vet and I started her on some of your products and standard process products,..since she is 53 pounds how much garlic would you recomend for her,..i clove for every 30 pounds,..please share when you have a moment,..greatly appreciate your time and valuable feedback : ) Thank you 🥰
Using a level measuring spoon, feed the following amount per day, according to your dog’s weight: 5lbs: 1/6 tsp 10lbs: 1/3tsp 15 lbs: 1/2 tsp 20lbs: 2/3 tsp 30 lbs: 1 tsp This applies to freshly chopped garlic. Hi ! My Yorkee weight is 2.9kg. I boil chicken gizzards with 1pc small amount of garlic then my friend told me I am killing my dog. As far as I know, garlic is anti oxidant... is this safe Ma'am?
I guess I didn’t really know what the Garlic was good for in my dog, so, like many Im sure, we don’t try new things unless something is wrong and there’s a need…Hard to know with always so much information!
I have a rescue from Korea that is either part Shibu or Jindo. I was going to try garlic for fleas but now I’m not sure. What else can I use for fleas and ticks that is natural?
Both of those dog breeds are more sensitive to the hemolytic effects of oxidants such as N-propyl disulphide found in garlic. We would suggest consulting with a holistic vet before giving garlic a try. There are many natural topical options out there for flea and tick prevention, we have a great spray available on our market! thenaturaldogstore.com/products/kin-kind-flea-tick-spray
My comment is actually a question. I've heard the same advice in the unrealistic studies many other videos but everyone's talking about dogs, what about cats.? We have several cats some that are coughing and sneezing all the time even with antibiotics and some that seem very healthy but yet they're all still battling worms
Yams are a starch, and dog's really don't need them in their diet! We recommend a fresh (raw or lightly cooked) diet that is low in starches and sugars to prevent inflammation :)
anemia I think... East Asian dogs (particularly Jindos, Akitas, Shibas) can have a gene that makes them highly sensitive to plants in the garlic/onion family. Their blood chemistry is a bit different. Search HK phenotype dogs. The gene itself isn't a problem, but if you get blood work done it's useful to be aware of because it can give weird results.
No, you want to be sure it is fresh organic garlic! Here is a great article that goes perfectly with that video - www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/garlic-for-dogs-poison-or-medicine/#h-how-much-garlic-should-you-give-your-dog
my father always gave our farm dogs, chopped garlic to dispel tape worms. Worked everytime!
He sounds like a smart man!
Yeah my Grandad grew up on and later ran a farm. Did the same thing.❤

Thank you! I’ve found garlic to be great for my dogs and it’s frustrating to see quick blurbs warning people not to give it to them. 💕🐾

she is taking allopurinol
This really has cleared up the confusion for me..thank you ..I would love to know about giving yogurt to dogs ..so much confusion with that one
You are most welcome! We have a great article about yogurt over on our blog! www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/can-dogs-eat-yogurt-probiotics/
Hi, just new to this channel.. can i ask how long to give it as antibiotics and as maintenance? Thank you!
People who like to say garlic is bad for dogs never fail to be shocked when i point out the garlic in a lot of supplements
Wondering if this could help with Pyoderma in dogs. Currently dosing with Cephalexin antibiotic.
My 14 month old Boxer refuses to eat his meals with garlic in it. Is there other way to give it to him that would still be beneficial but less of a pungent smell or should I just give up on it?
You could try mixing it with some other foods he likes! Such as kefir, bone broth, or even applesauce! They might be able to help hide the smell :)

Does anyone know if feeding your dog garlic helps to keep tics from your dog?
It keeps fleas off and some ticks on mine.
It can be helpful for repelling ticks!

He is likely still following the old research where dogs were force fed heads and heads of garlic. Way too much for a dog! Too much of anything can be toxic :)
Do you recommend adding the chopped garlic to the dog's food?
Yes, it can be added to a meal!
Do I need to make sure to give organic garlic?? It's expensive!! Or is regular garlic OKAY for our dogs?
Organic is always best! But here is a great article on garlic with more details :) www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/garlic-for-dogs-poison-or-medicine/

@@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM Thank you very much!!! 😀
Thanks for that beautiful dog by the way ❤
Well said ❤❤
I am curious as to why Shiba Inus and Akitas shouldn't have garlic. Any insight?
These breeds are more sensitive to the hemolytic effects of oxidants such as N-propyl disulphide found in garlic which can lead to anemia! :)
@@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM what about dachshunds and Jack Russell's? Or cats?
Is fermented garlic ok? Like a blend of fermented cabbage that also has garlic added?

Can a golden retriever 75 lbs eat garlic if he is on Keppra and phenobarbitol for seizure control?
It would be best to check with your holistic vet!

Pharmaceutical companies don't want "us" to know that food can help our pups (and ourselves for that matter).
