    This is the fifth video in our series about how to build a tiny camper trailer. I show you how to add wiring to your square drop camper. Thanks for being here to watch our camper build process. In the next videos, I will install siding to the interior and exterior of the camper and I will install all of our electrical accessories and get them wired to the battery and the solar panel. Micro campers and teardrop trailers have become super popular lately. Having some basic electricity to run accessories, lights, fans, and a heater will make your camping experience much more enjoyable. Use some of these tips to wire your DIY camper.

    I e been wanting to do a build for the last few years now and electrical is always where I hesitate. My plan now is to have every part of the build down on paper before I spend dollar one on anything. This is very informative but I know I need more help with electrical. I'm glad I stumbled on this series and plan to watch it through!

      Hi David, thanks for watching my videos! I appreciate all of the support. I think it is a great idea to draw out your build on paper. It should also help with estimating the cost of everything. The electrical aspect is a bit intimidating, but working with 12 V is pretty straight forward. I hope to make a more detailed video with diagrams at some point in the future.
      Thanks again!

    Hi! Love this videos! Amazing Squaredrop.
    Do you think its possible to use SIP panels to assemble a squaredrop camper? the construction method and the incoporated isolation, make me think it could be a good idea. Faster to build.
    But i have my doubts about the resistance to road movement.
    Thanks a lot for yout videos.
    Do you have build plans of your squaredrop camper?

    thanks for your knowledge and great TH-cam, if you ran the cables under the floor and bring them up to their position. This will help not having large group of cables on the inside walls. Also there is a screw type connectors which is twisted to the cables you also could use.

    Hey man, just curious. Why don’t you install the fuse panel inside the camper and just ran 2 wires through the wall to your battery? That way you’re not having multiple circuits running through the outside wall. Hope that made sense

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! It's simply to keep things neat and out of the way. The only good place to do this would be in the back galley, which is what I did in my last camper. I've actually never needed to access my fuse panel, so with this build, I decided to just stick it up front in the tongue box. Now, all of my electronics (battery, fuse box, solar charger controller) are all housed in the tongue box. It essentially just maximizes usable space in the rest of the camper. Personal preference, but I could totally see why someone else would house it in the camper. Thanks for watching the video!

  • @weekendwonders

    Ok decent connections but invest in a soldering iron and solder to make those connections perfect. Over time the twist connections will corroded and fail solder will make them more of a lifetime connection.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Great suggestion. I have a soldering iron, but never really bust it out. I'll bring it out for the next project. Just out of curiosity. do you know if twist connections in a wire nut will corrode less than these heat shrink connections? Seems like most electricians use wire nuts, so I would think that they would last for a long time without corroding.
      Thanks again for watching and for your input!

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rick! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
      Sorry I don't have the metric measurements...
      The base is 5 ft x 8 ft. The walls come up 4 ft high (which is the standard size of plywood here in the US 4 ft x 8 ft). I used 3/4 inch plywood for everything.
      The inside just fits a queen sized mattress perfectly. Whatever was remaining after I added the mattress is what makes up the rear storage space.
      Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Great series! I've designed my camper but haven't built yet. Are you going to have shore power and an inverter? I plan to with mine as I want to be able to hook up to camp grounds on my trip to get to the overlanding and boondock places. That way you are not always relying on solar for spots where hookups are available.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and subscribing! I think that is all a great idea. I have a small power inverter to plug 3 prong power plugs into, but it still runs off of the battery and solar power. For my uses, I didn't really think that shore power was necessary, but I can see that it could be helpful if you were planning on using campgrounds. Our power usage is so low, that even on a cloudy day, I get enough of a charge to replenish the battery.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasthompson3967 The aluminum was a bit expensive mostly because I had to buy it in bulk (15 sheet minimum). I bought enough for 3 campers. I built 2 and then sold the remaining sheets to someone locally. In the end, I paid about $60 per sheet of 4x8 aluminum.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching and for the compliment. Prices have gone up a little over the last year or so, but I would estimate $5000-6000 for the whole build.
