Oh gracious! I just ran into you guys today! Excellent excellent!!! And you play all my favorite tunes like I wish I could play on the fiddle! Thank you!!
So loving your improv section and the dynamic build up followed by the gentle finish! Wow!! All of your arrangements are stellar but I wouldn't mind hearing more bits like this.
Thanks! In a nutshell, the time signature is the difference - 6/8 for Jigs and 3/2 for the Hornpipes. It means that the Jigs are in double time and the 3/2 Hornpipes are triple time, so they have quite different feels. Jigs are more commonly played but 3/2s are quite special tunes.
@@thegoodtunes Thanks for the explanation! How does it change how you mentally count it or where the emphasis goes? For jigs I usually think of it as One-2-3 Two-2-3, and most (8/8? 2/2?) hornpipes like Boys of Bluehill are more One--2-3---4 Two--2-3---4. This feels like you're kinda grouping it in threes like a "2/dotted-quarter" time and it doesn't have as much of a swing that I associate with hornpipes. (Sorry if this is confusing. I hope that made sense.) But other times that kinda falls off and you have a lot less of an emphasis (like fourth measures in the A part of the first one, when it goes to repeat the A part). I love the effect, though, and you're absolutely right this has a very distinct feel.

The 2nd one sounds like 'The Key to The Cellar' that I learned from Alasdair Fraser many years ago....but faster.
I think it could be the same tune, different title!
