My Grandad spent a year there 1895 with the 10th Royal Hussars and then Newbridge Barracks, He went on to serve in the Boer War 1899 -1902 and fortunately we have all his service records and medals - great piece of film and stirring music.

My great Grandad was posted there for a time - He died 21 August 1918 • Hill 60, Arras, 8 Miles S.W. of Paris, France. He was a machine gunner with the Cavalry ( we have picture of him on a horse).....My Nan was born there on 5 JUL 1916 - We as a family are planning to have a look to see whats there now this year (2020)

Hi Lilywhite2012 - probably proximity to the Curragh, also an enormous facility and the fact that it was a Cavalry Barracks built specifically for their Cavalry. It was used as an Internment camp shortly after being vacated. Not to popular with the new Republican Government I would imagine.
