Nick is probably the person I trust the most out of all the shoe-tubers. Well, the one my preferences line up the most with. I’ve ran a fair bit in the Sky and the Edge and I personally think the Sky is in a different league.
One noteworthy thing I noticed about racing the marathon in the Sky Paris is that my heart rate during the race was much lower compared to when I was training at goal marathon pace in a non-plated shoe. This tells me that the Sky Paris caused me to work at less effort for the same pace; hence, greater energy return.
Well argued review Nick based on facts. It is a close call and I appreciate your objectivity in a highly competitive shoe market. I can't wait to see what Supablast v2 will bring to the market.
I'm a Nike fan but the Alphafly availability is just ridiculous. I've been trying to get the 3 since January with no luck. Now not even the 2 is available since they're probably clearing up inventory. So happy that Asics created an alternative :)

Once again, totally aligned with Nick on this. Love both but, if I had to choose one, it's the Sky Paris. I can't say I've tried every racing shoe out there (including the legendary AF1), but I've tried many and the Sky Paris just may be the best racing shoe ever for 5K up to full marathon. Every aspect of it is great and there isn't any flaw, negative, quibble, or issue on it whatsoever that I can think of.
Ran on both - had picked up the edge initially but the sky for me was just "natural" feeling and able to pull off multiple speeds while dodging crowds running on the west side highway of nyc with no instability. The edge felt like I needed to run a certain way and the way it "rocked" through the run actually caused a little discomfort on the top of my left knee-felt like I was driving downward and with the foam/plate and then scooped up for the bounce or return which bothered my knee. The sky was just naturally gliding me or moving me through the strides easily. On top of it all - was able to get a 12% discount off the sky at the asics store so every bit counts -
I was one of the lucky ones I was able to get both colors. The Asics and Allhafly are great shoes. Both are comfy easy to run in and I didn’t have to get used to running in either of them. I prefer the Nike over the Asics it just feels a little better on the foot and when I strike the ground.if I didn’t have the Nike and only the Asics I wouldn’t miss a beat, it’s that good. Hopefully everybody can try the Alpha fly when they become available because they’re availability is just ridiculous at this point, come on Nike
@@stevros48 yes the sky is a little roomier. I like my shoes snug I know that’s not what you want but I just don’t feel comfortable on shoes that hold hold my feet. Like I said they are both great.
I've been waiting for Nick's comparison between these two as I agree with his thoughts about them both in individual reviews, so close to call really and I'm just glad and happy that I have them both. If pushed then I'd say the AF3 is maybe better for the longer races and the Metaspeed Sky Paris excels at the shorter stuff but need more longer races in the Asics as I feel that it could be one of the best shoes of recent years
@@TheHutchRuns and that worked well ? I watched eddbuds review and he mentioned if you can go down a half size it's advisable as they really have big weight differences even between half sizes ... I do like the idea of a touch more shoe underneath though
@@magnusskold9134 I Agree - great shoe btw even though I've only 20K in it - however the shoe runs slightly shorter (if compared to Metaspeed Sky+ same size). I think no tester realized part of the weight saving comes from the fact that Asics stripped few MM (just mesure insole's length and you'll realize it's slightly less than what they declare for the given size).
I never even made an attempt to buy the AF3. I think it's offensive and insulting that Nike expects their customers to camp out on their website at a certain time of a certain day to even have a chance to purchase their shoes. I purchased a pair of Saucony Endorphin Elites and a pair of Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris' to decide between the two for my spring marathon in three weeks. I have been for one run in each and haven't decided yet on which pair I will use in my marathon. I do agree with the review though that the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris' are an awesome shoe. Nike lost me as a customer with their shenanigans.
i would love to buy the metaspeed sky here in switzerland. But its soldout everywhere. Its not really that much easier to get then the alphafly here in europe 😢

I am sure the 'Alphafly 3' is amazing, but I have been to the Nike Store in London and another Running store and both pairs handed to me had the sole separating from the uppers around the heel. For a sneaker charged at £285.00 this is unacceptable.
Preferring an 8mm drop for racing and I'm a low cadence runner, I'm racing in the AF V3. I'm much slower runner (3:08 marathon) as well. The MetaSpeed Sky+ was a big dud for me so I'm cautious about spending on Asics race shoes. Superblast is phenomenal however!
Already sent my Sky Paris back (thanks to ASICS wonderful 90day try policy), took them on an undulating tarmac route and got a bruised toe on my left foot and blisters on the top of my right toes. Went 0.5 up as true to size felt great on the left and too tight on the right. Shame though as during the run they felt great it’s just after that my feet would need two weeks to recover. The run I did was 10 miles so potentially that could’ve developed into something worse at 20mi for me.
Hi Nick, Im very much a ‘stride’ runner, at race pace my stride increases by proportionally more than my cadence - I think what you’re saying is that the Nike might suit stride runners slightly better? And the Paris for cadence runners
Don’t know if it’s any use for you. I’m very much a cadence runner, but I’m using the AP3 (and 2) I feel increasing my stride length indeed had a very positive effect on with the AP3 (more so than the 2) they just take off then. Mind you my cadence is still high, but they feel better with a slight decrease in cadence and increase in stride length.
My advice is heel strikers as soon as you see a little foam wear, put a tiny bit of shoe goo on that area. This will protect it from further wear and not affect perfomance. As soon as foam wears it goes really quick.
Man, I just did 8X800's in the AF3.... incredible strain on 1 of my Achilles'. 🤦♂️ I'll do a 40 min tempo in 2 days and 10 mile at slightly faster than goal marathon pace 2 days after that in them and then assess, then 20+ mile run in Superblasts day after that then 3 week taper. It was on a track, I surmise I'll get a lot more energy return from the road.
My question is if I should be using a super shoe? I recently ran a 23:51 5K and a 48:51 10k so would I see much benefit? My Brighton marathon was run in 4:28:50 as I ran with my son for his first ever marathon, I was well within my capabilities and could probably have run a sub 4 hour race. For context I’m 58 and also cycle a lot so do split training.
If you participate in races, and spend alot of time training, i would say yes. Just got my sky paris shoes, tested it for a run, and i think they really let me run to my full potencial. It felt like it conserved so much of the energy i used, that i could keep my speed up for way longer. Until now, i've used quite heavy, durable shoes for training. But these are on a whole other level

What has put me off ASICS as a brand is that I’ve hated the Gel Nimbus 25. It’s huge and the tongue is weirdly elasticated. That said, maybe I’m the anti-Tom and just dislike max cushioned shoes. Would love to try these on in a running store to get a sense of them.

So refreshing to see brands Like Asics & Saucony getting the credit they deserve for producing amazing shoes. In the past it’s all been about Nike and if I’m honest I feel they are massively overrated. The Metaspeed Sky Paris looks unreal!
For softest foams with a bounce I’d vote for the NB 1080 V3 for carbon plated I’d say the diadora gara carbon. Not sure about bounciest though, I like a good mix of bouncy and a roll through
The Metaspeeds were delayed in release to the Uk, and the Edge has been sold out. I think after the previous 2 versions not selling well, ASICS made fewer pairs on launch not expecting them to be so popular

Asics Paris upper has very good sock-like feel. I tried running in them with no socks for 30k and it was as I predicted no blisters what so ever.

I just order a pair of the Metaspeed Sky Paris. After seeing this my only regret is that I didn't order it earlier.

Half size up for me as well as the TTS was too tight around my little toe.

Tried the Asics but just found them too narrow in the toe box vs the AF3

If you had to choose between the OG Vaporflys or the ASICS which would win? I still have mine and nothing has really come close.
Vaporfly 2's are tough to beat in all areas if you are a mid foot/heel striker. Fast, light, semi comfortable.

Asics has done an incredible job with the meta speed. They took it to Nike and outdid them imho.

I'm going to say the Asics is DEFINITELY the better shoe overall. Most underrated shoe, and should definitely be in your rotation.
