- Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, who was recently in the news for his '70-hour work per week' remark, has said that he stands by what he said. In an exclusive interview with India Today Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, Narayana Murthy said that he used to work nearly 90 hours a week while he was setting up his company, and he does not regret it.
Narayana Murthy opened up about how he would balance family time after he worked 85 to 90 hours a week while he was building the company. Murthy said he prioritised quality time over the amount of hours he spent with his family.
Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy spoke about a host of other things, including office grind, their personal life and equation.

Smt . Sudha Murthy is my favorite person .To listen to her talking itself is a joy for uplifting my life. I am 81 years from Chennai lived in Delhi after my marriage ,settled down in Bangalore practicing as a lawyer. Smt. Sudha Murthy is my inspiration . People who are used to working, who are in the habit of reading and writing they don’t miss anything in life.
He turns emotion of love into a computer ... A good line by Rajdeep Sardesai. I laughed so hard. Good interview.
These are not just middle-class values. These are values every human being should inculcate in himself / herself to live a fulfilled life.
In today's rat race, we often get mocked for having such morals & they're often seen to be outdated. But, Moorthy family has proved that, a phenomenally successful & respectable life can be achieved if we stick to these values passed on to us by our ancestors.

Very interesting interview. We enjoyed thoroughly. Many won't be able to agree with Mr. Murthy as regards his work culture on account of various reasons. We should give adequate space for family life, entertainment, leisure, travels, physical activities etc. which contribute substantially to productivity of an employee. No body should be made to sit and work in the office for the whole day.

Fascinating interview, inspirational. Murthy alluded to his political ideology as compassionate capitalism that includes some socialist ideas. I propose Socio-Capitalism which includes the following bridge between Socialism and Capitalism, wherein everyone is served from the very poor to the very rich. The poor pay less for less and the rich pay more for more. For example, the first few units of electricity could be free for everyone, but each additional unit costs more after that. The more one consumes, the more one pays. The rich cross subsidise services for the poor.
This idea about work - family llife balance never bothered people earlier. Commitment to complete the job was most important. Family's understood this and supported us.

If you have Extra work then Hire extra Employees to work in Shifts and pay more & keep your Company working 24 hrs * 7 days a week instead of telling existing employees to work for 70 hrs a week and save yourself from paying extra Salary to be paid for extra employees working in Shifts.
Exactly! Employing more people will help the national economy - not overworking fewer and fewer people in the name of 70 hours.

The most cunning couple. The husband conned the Indian youth. All the wife does is launder husband's money, by acting righteous and naive
Working 72hours a week? That means, hardly any time left for personal work. Lots of people have to spend 3hrs in traffic alone. When kids are ill or parents are sick, we lose further time. He don't care about any of these personal issues of employees and just want them to work like machines.
