I just found out today that my 14 year old Long haired miniature dachshund named Thor has lung cancer. I set a timeline in my head for Sunday the 13th to put him down out of love to end his suffering to get the best oxygen he can. I am having the hardest time in my life doing so or facing my g/f and her kids that are super attached. Going through so many emotions I just dont want to lose him. He is the sweetest little guy who has been with me through everything.

I just put my dog to sleep today. Her name is Milo. (17 years ) I feel so much guilt because in my country very hard to find someone to do it for you and some people don’t understand about this. She have pancreatitis and later her dementia get worst after treat pancreatitis for 7 days...🐶 I love her so much.
It’s been one week since my vet euthanized my 11 year old kitty. I understand that part of the grieving process is bargaining or playing the “what if?” game.
Images and comments online show many let their pets suffer longer than I could withstand, but I fear I let the doctor move too quickly and the guilty feelings are intense. I’ll never know for sure.
Cats are way smarter than most humans understand and respect and I deeply miss her brilliant being and companionship.

You did not want your beloved kitty to suffer and did what you that was right. She might have lived a few months longer but may not have enjoyed much of it. Kitty is watching over you and thanking you for 11 wonderful years of love and excellent care. Be kind to yourself and know that Kitty chose to live with you because they knew you would make the right decision with the time came.
I cannot tell you how upset I am that I put down my beautiful big dog Milo last Monday. I felt it was time, but now feel I might have jumped the gun. He was still in good physical condition 46 kg, however, had incontinence with periodic blood in urine. Had gone off his food the previous 36 hours, started to vomit blood in the mornings two days in a row. He shot up out of bed a few times and on one occasion, he was just standing there, and I had to get his attention. I was getting up 2 and 3 times a night, letting him out early, but I started to use men incontinence underwear, cutting off the sides and rapping them around his waist. He had bladder cancer with a big tumour near his bladder, prostate urethra. His last walk he started to slow. I was frightened he was about to drop off the cliff health wise....I've cried many times this past week. My Vet said I did the right thing but feel I jumped the gun. From diagnosis 5 weeks earlier, my Vet was surprised he was still going when he had a check up last Saturday 13th, yet two days later I put him down . He was on Piroxicam and Finasteride, and it seemed difficult to give him them the last few days. He was drinking lots of water, then trying to wee, then going back for more water. His passing water was more a constant drip than a deliberate action. There were good days bad days in my view gerting worse. It was very hard!😔 He was close to my Mum who passed away in December which has also made difficult. He was my best friend.
you absolutely did the right thing. if you haven't, re-read your comment and ask yourself if his and your quality of life was good, decent, manageable, or bad. i hope you've had closure since. ♡
My cat is 16 years old and he has a malign cancer second time in his life. The first time it was tumor in his ear, he was 10 years old, the vet gave him half till one year to live after the surgery. He made almost 6 more years. His blood tests are completely clean and he is otherwise perfectly healthy. We decided to go for a chemo and to fight. I am happy that he is home with us and happy. Whether he will make it or not, all I can give him is a chance to fight and to help him with it. We came back to the vet checkup after 1 week, initialy we were advised to do immediate euthanasia, and the doctors din't believe their eyes. The tumor (oral) is still there and it's early for the chemo to work, but we make his every day a spoiling day.
Thank you. My girl is nearly 16. Her hearing has gone, her sight is going quickly and she’s got arthritis in her legs and spine. I know it’s time. But goodness gracious…this is so hard. I don’t want her to suffer. I don’t want to keep her alive for me but then that tail wags and I just feel like the worst person ever.
But I know she’s living in a constant state of fear, anxiety and pain because she’s losing her senses…thank you for this video. It really does help.

Great video and so much appreciated. I'm going through this difficult decision right now with my 8 yr old frenchie bam bam who has mast cell tumors in his lymphnodes. He was living a great quality life up until a few days ago and this is by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Thank you for opening up my eyes to knowing he isn't himself anymore and when his time comes I'll know it in my heart.
When you know your pet is terminal & they start refusing food & water it is time. Animals that refuse nutrition after any intervention that may help, i.e. administration of meds like steroids, sub Q fluids, etc. are telling you they're done. These things may temporarily extend quality of life & give you a little more time, but eventually they will make no difference & your pet will stop eating & drinking. That is when you step in & end the suffering. Just MAKE SURE your vet sedates your pet before the shot....this is CRUCIAL to ensuring your pet passing quietly and peacefully. If your vet will not do this find ANOTHER ONE
I agree, but don't just pinpoint it on that behaviour without a diagnose. It feels like the majority only goes by symptoms and never consults a vet. If you ever had a bad flu, you know how that can affect your will of living. But it's a curable disease. So look for those signs, but also consult a vet, not just when there are signs, but on a yearly routine if not more often. A lot can be prevented if it's found at early stage. Do regular blood tests, never skip (heart)worm treatments, get vaccines.
@@arisaz. Oh yes. I meant once you know the dog is terminal, & you've done all you can, meds, fluids, etc. One of my boys, we ran every test under the sun, they repeatedly showed nothing. But at the point he simply would not eat or even drink I knew it was time😓💔
Sigh... Thank you for your comment. I've been looking for how to judge when it is/isn't time to euthanize my cat who has terminal cancer. He had cancer when I adopted him (I didn't know), but I'm thankful I brought him into my life. Chemo was stopped last week due to it not working, so now, it's when is the best time to make that decision. So your tips really help. I'll cherish his enthusiasm for eating right now, and when he no longer eats/is suffering... I'll make that appointment.

Just know that they depend on us to put their well being before our own feelings & hopefully it makes the decision a bit easier. He was lucky to have you for the time he had, & vice versa I'm sure ❤️
@@di_kid00 I am sorry for your upcoming loss and hope you'll have some more time with your adoptive child and that it won't be too hard on both of you. Did you consult only one vet? Because you might want to get a 2nd opinion just to be sure that nothing else but cancer is what affects your cat. In the shelter I adopted my cat from they gave out warnings that this stuff often gets misdiagnosed, eg. when prednisolone is given (influences blood cell count).
I think we missed her becoming sick, maybe over the last year. All of the resources say that cats hide when ill, but she did not. She slept more in her basket and on the down duvet on our bed - but we expected this in a 16 year old. We made little accommodations like a footstool. And near the end she was never more cuddly. But the growth ruined her mouth, she couldn’t eat or drink easily, and age and kidney issues (what we may have missed) made treatment impossible. I bought baby food and syringe fed her every time she was awake for the few days after we’d made the decision until an appointment was available. It all happened so fast - we could measure the jaw swelling growing daily. We didn’t even think of her as old. She was meowing for attention and doing cardboard art (a passion we encouraged) right to the end. We didn’t know how to tell her brother, though. He doesn’t really meow, more like chirping, but he cried so loud when he realized she was not in her usual spot the next day. I did mind talk with him, but he is not as open as she was. But he has let us know he wants to be a sole cat for a while.
As many times as I’ve sadly had to make the decision, I still got some good info from this video. Thank you.

I don't think I personally can pass a quality of life test.
I am dealing with this now, I cannot do it. He got diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, he is a tough little guy, he is also blind now. He does not want to eat, he has not pooped and when he did blood was in his stool. He has lost weight of course because of not eating, I am feeding him can pumpkin through a syringe. This is my first dog my baby. 😪😪😪😪
I wonder... when my cat did not eat for cancer, vet prescribed a mirtazapine. It worked a little and later, it really helps. My cat eats well.

Very helpful video, thank you, Dr. Sue and Dr. Gardner! Your expertise will help me decide when will be the best time to set up that appointment for my senior cat, Taro, for euthanasia. He has cancer of the lymphocytes and chemo was stopped just week ago, bc it stopped working. He sleeps in one room and although affection and responsive, I sense he is suffering. He's on a lot of meds so he can be comfortable, which I hope is comfortable enough for him not to feel those pains. I just hope I'm not making the wrong decision to not make that appointment now rather than later.

My pup was diagnosed with a fibro sarcoma at 3.5 years. We did the CT Scan today but it’s clear, from what the specialist is saying, that we’re not going to get good news. He’s so young!! I needed objectivity, and this helped. Thank you.

My 11 yr old Boxer (Bella) just got Splenectomy and it’s HSA. Shows no signs of going. I hope I can get 1 more Christmas with her. I’m laying in bed and Bella is next to me snoring away having her dreams as she has her back right up against mine. Very Very Tough. Although I have accepted it and as weird as it sounds I’d rather know and expect it than to not know and not expect anything at all.

I just had our little dog put down. P-nut is the very small dog. 16 years old. She was a very sweet and loving dog. She saved my life when she could smell my breast cancer from under my arm. They got it in time! To save my life.
Now we had to put her to sleep ,my heart is broken 😢
I'm REALLY struggling with this decision right now. Our14yo Chorkie has 2 very large Cancerous tumors. One inside his liver, the other near his spleen. He's Terminal. Doc can't do anything bit manage pain. We have an Appointment a week from today to have him Euthanized. I'm struggling because he's still scoring High on this Scale. Obviously showing signs of decline. Biggest risk right now Doc says is very high risk of the Tumors rupturing. It would be a painful, probably bloody mess IF it were to occur. We had a 2nd Cat Scan done 2 days ago. The Tumor on his liver is now nearly 5 inches in diameter. Yes, 5 inches. It grew 10mm in size in 2 weeks. Very rapidly growing. It's heart breaking watching him still e joying life. Barking greeting me when I come home, eating and drinking well etc... but knowing a Tumor could blow out and second is terrifying. Do we take him next Friday to be put to sleep OR take our chances and wait a bit longer. Giving him more love and happiness. Obviously if he gets worse. We'll take him to the VET ASAP. My wife wants to go next week. I'm am really torn. Dude his been glued to me for 14 years. I want what is best for HIM. ??? What say you ? TIA...God Bless
hello dr sue, my dog was diagnosed with hemangiopericytoma, it has spread to her spleen, she still has a lot of apetite but has pain, is there a holistic approach to treat this type of cancer
I am watching this just 1 hour before I make the dreaded decision.
This has been helpful. My dog 🐶 has a liposarcoma in his eye . He was vomiting a lot last week but this week has been doing better. The dr says it’s not painful 😣 but his eye is completely covered by the tumor and third eye lid. I don’t know if I should put him down yet . The vet says surgery won’t save him . I’m gonna go on the web site this was helpful!

Dr Sue Cancer Vet thank you for taking the time to reply. It’s been very difficult. This happened so quick and the fact that not even surgery would help kills me. I know I have to put him down . He’s eating and running around still but I’m sure he’s uncomfortable. I’m giving him pain meds and tumeric and I just got him essiac supplements to see if it helps . Thank you

Dom is really struggling and I don't want him to suffer but my husband works abroad and wants to throw everything at lymphoma so he can see him again. I don't think it's fair
I live in the Netherlands and had to make this hard decision 5 times in my life with my cats. It is heartbreaking and painful but a decision made out of love. I let my vet come to our home which is less common and more expensive here but I want as little stress as possible for my beloved cats.
I have a question. One aspect of the euthanesia with cats that I find very disturbing is the second shot straight in the heart after the sedation shot. To me it's a horrible concept and so difficult to handle . I know that they don't do this with dogs. Why is this procedure for cats neccesary and isn't there any alternative?

My cat Rupert has a growth on his hindleg which I had first noticed last march. It has gotten very big very fast and from my research I believe it is an osteosarcoma. He has had bowel issues for a very long time and he is gotten very thin. He still eats and drinks and still gets around but the growth does have open sores and does not smell very good. I am contemplating taking him and have it checked out and go from there. I do not believe that there will be good news and need to prepare for the difficult decision since I do not want him to suffer any worse than what he is going through right now. He is having a good week so far. Am looking into targeting next week for vet visit. He is thirteen years old.
How can you watch your pet suffering this long until even consulting a vet!?

I used lap of love for my dog this past July for my baby with lymphoma. They were very caring and were there the moment my baby started bleeding and suffering. Saying goodbye was hard but it was a final act of love to have her sleep to death instead of prolonged suffering.

thank you , I like the way you worded that , my dog had cancer last year , he had an op and seemed to be his old self , but it's back I'm trying to work out the best time to have him put to sleep , I think I'm only keeping him alive for my sake , and your words are helping me , It's got to be soon .

You forget some cannot afford Chemotherapy, etc.
My family want me to put my beautiful cat down because the chop chemo didn’t work the oncologist was telling about the chemo shot and the pill. Then I found out she needs a blood transfusion and my family telling no more. They are the executor of my trust and they like to control my money. I got checks from my pet insurance but they don’t care they want to make the decision for me.

Hi. I feel how you feel. My cat has a large cell, lymphoma. He ate well but vomited a lot. Then
Cerenia and other medications help no more vomit.
Oncologist said he has 2 weeks and with chemo, CHOP will allow him to live 9 months to a year. He had two chemo and I realized it is not working well and it only gives more negative. Because my cat has nausea and lose more appetite.
We were told a feeding tube.
We decided not to do and decided not to do other chemo.
Meanwhile, I gave him a transfusion then he is not 20% (15%-) 20%)
He eats well with mirtzapine.
During chemo, mirtzapine did not work.
I also feel oncologist only cares about money. And most of vets too.
My husband and vets all told me to put him down because lymphoma is incurable and we stopped a chemo.
Only predenisolon and other medications.
He eats well and looks active. Just he has some time to stay in the bathroom mat.
I do not want to send him too soon or too late.
It’s very touch.
Vets warned sooner or later, it will be bad.
What should I do....
I anyway reserved a plot in cemetery and bought in advance a casket.
But very tough decision.
I wonder why your family is able to control your money, you seem very capable of doing things on your own. If they only do that because they don't want you to spend your money, to hell with them. But if they do it because they see the cat is suffering, then you should talk it out with them and find the best solution, not for you or them, but your cat. In the end, we are just bystanders, and your cat's well-being is the thing that matters the most.
I don't know if I could ever euthanize my pets, just want to keep them comfortable, at least for sicknesses or desease. Major terminal trama from an accident would be easier, but still hate playing God.
I understand how hard it can be.
By that reasoning you “play God” any time you intervene medically for any reason.
There will be a point where you know it's more humane to stop the suffering than to let nature do their job. But up to that point, absolutely everything should be tried to make your pet feel better
I suppose that’s where I stand too. As an RN we work to support life. My 19 year old poodle Bichon mix is simply aging. She has mobility issues but as far as I know otherwise old age issues like hearing loss, teeth are bad, walks in circles and falls down, etc.. otherwise she looks knowingly at me with her soulful eyes.
I’m troubled by all the extra care and yet I feel that is selfish and surely I can do it! I am capable and able. Yet, for what? My little Lucy doesn’t go for walks and can’t even tolerate car trips. She needs a rest.
Should we even be afraid of death? Just lost mom and two aunts in the space of three months (2022). I have to believe they are in a better place and at peace. My Lucy will be too.

And a tumor under her jaw and it moved to the side of the jaw the last vet told me to put her to sleep
She would eat and drink water. She would bleed some times but I notice after she bleed she could eat better.
I didn't want to put her down but I did I was so confuse she had this for 4 months .

Not at all impressed with these two women/vets/animal care givers!!! This video is off putting for someone who is dealing with cancer with their pet. Making this video while on a working vacation in St Martin and all their girly giggles, smiles , seeming disingenuous seriousness and sympathy for their audiences situation turns my stomach. Very bad choice girls. I won't call you ladies because you both don't seem mature and serious enough for that designation. I also get the feeling that for any pet parent who is looking for a vet or animal care giver who does it more because they really love dogs, cats and their pets, these women are most motivated by the making money side of their profession than a dominant animal loving motivation. I'd rather give my money, and my trust to a vet like Dr. Andrew Jones/(Veterinary Secrets) who's sincerity is obviously real and who's videos are more tastefully done. Not only that but I don't see either of these vets/animal care givers as having the skills and qualification I'm looking for. They only talk about amputation, radiation, chemotherapy as treatment programs and options. Not a word about treating and possibly curing your dogs osteosarcoma bone cancer with Panacur-C and Fenbenzadole and CBD/Cannabinoid regiment which has been successful on both human and animal cancer. These over the counter type of medications allow the pet parent to be more involved and responsible for their pets health care, treatment and condition without dumping all their money into the capitalistic greedy purses of the Dr. Sue's and Mary Gardners in this field. These two imposters offer no hope of cure for your beloved pet, they only trade in the terminal side of cancer like the medical and pharmaceutical profession does in general for both animals and people. Please for yourselves and for your pets look elsewhere for help and guidance and hope!

I had a difficult time with time budget. EXCUSE me.for the dog the human is their entire world so how can you NOT make time for your beloved pet. Euthenizing an animal because you cant care for it?seek help. if you have a dog obviously you cant travel without a back up plan.
Killing a dog because you dont have time for him at his old age after he served you is despicable.
There is a right and wrong
Same goes for money, especially if people say "I have savings but I have other plans for it". A pet is not a purchase. It's a family member. If you don't plan to give everything for them, you don't deserve their love and trust. If money is an issue, start a fundraiser or surrender it to a shelter so they might put in the effort, but don't euthanize them as a cheap solution to get rid of them.
Respect to your channel name. Such a wonderful sound is the cry of the seagull, and the tale of Jonathan. So many other birdsongs and charectorisations that stop one in one's tracks and remind us we are not alone, nor are we the ultimate species. It's quite sad that much of humanity has fought against slave trade, but happy to trade the most beautiful, loyal and loving souls we may ever encounter. Having listened to this exchange between both vets, and reading the commentary, I have to concur with Marion, with respect to their presentation. There is no room for lighthearted information in this instance. The information would have better been apricciated had they taken some thought to the emotional circumstances of their target audience. They did not portray that well. Their corporate/junket /whatever it was would have served better separate from this issue. Having viewed this video for some insight and reason in helping my short haired soul friend in her serious illness and certain outcome, I will not be editing my loved friend with such an edit. Its interesting that humans can proclaim a right or reason to end their animal friends existence, but battle over the right to the same thoughts on their own beings. 🐾
