Great perspective on both real budget knives and the cross bar lock. The rhetoric among most channels is that 2024 is going to be amazing for knives. I have a much more reserved feeling about 2024. I see the majority of knives getting more expensive, but not much better in quality overall. Just my humble opinion. I am sick of the button lock, it is inherently weak but makes for a great fidget toy, I don't need any fidget toys. And the current trend with urine colored knife handle material, 🤮 I refuse to buy a knife with urine colored scales. Rant over, I hope everyone has a great weekend.
I only have 70 knives or so, i definitely need more fidget toys 🥺

I picked up a bunch of these at Christmas for gifts and giveaways. My co worker and I have been carrying both of the models you showed. They are great knives! We both use them at work and these perform way above their price. They aren’t collectible but great at what they are made for.

I saw both of these on the rack at walmart right before Christmas, told myself to just keep walking or else I was gonna buy most of the knives on the rack.😆I did snag one knife though, got the little brass and wood lockback that they had. I picked a couple of these, actually someone's, just for fun. I found the action was not great, but did a little maintenance on them and the lock works great now. They make a good car knife or junk drawer knife. 😂

You know the one thing I can say about any of the Ozark Trail knives I've ever handled is the build quality in terms of fit and finish was actually really pretty good, certainly more than I expected at the price point even going back to the legendary 3.88 beige folder from about 5 years ago. And while it goes against the grain to consider any knife or tool disposable I have carried them in locations where if I had to ditch a knife due to security concerns I wasn't going to have to worry about it.

Hello. I have or have had several bar lock knives. All but one were between $5 and $55. The only one that had both springs break at the same time after 6 weeks of light edc use and some fidgeting was the $200+ Benchemade Bugout. All the best.
Lol the only bar lock knife that's broken on me as well. Bugout is overpriced and overhyped garbage.

Great video, not everyone can afford a $400 knife for everyday carry. I pretty much set a $200 or less for my needs, I can afford more but I never found the need or want to give for a TOOL for the pocket. Keep the fantastic content coming.
You can find many excellent knives for far less than $200
Funny! I just picked one of these up today. For $5, it's not that bad. I did have to adjust the pivot, but it was perfectly centered and now works fine.

Yeah, so the one without the blue pivot collar. The problem isn't the detent. When it was stamped out there's some serious deformity in both sides of the channel for the bar lock. I had to take mine to the grinder several times to get it cleaned up enough to work smoothly. Getting it apart far enough to get the blade out was a nightmare. So was getting it put back together. QC REALLY dropped both balls on it. When you get it fixed it, it's nice enough. I carried the one with the blue collar for a day and liked it well enough.

I can never find these knives at my local store. They seem to sell out immediately, assuming the store is actually getting any in. Or the associates are buying them before they hit the floor.

Sencut scepter clone but 1-2% larger with a different lock. I tried to break my mini bug out springs but they're still alive after thousands of unnecessary compressions.

pretty sure ozark trail uses 7cr17mov in there folding knives some of thier larger knives use 5cr13mov , bought one of the spearpoint ones this past Christmas and did the Ganzo omega spring adjustment trick on it , makes it a much smoother operating knive with out sacrificing lock up strength . Pack that bad boy with me every work day as my loaner knife.

Those are pretty decent looking knives but in the ultra budget category the Axis style locks would be one of the least preferable locks IMO (unless I’m only anticipating a week or so of use like you mentioned). You’re lucky you haven’t broke an omega spring before… I’ve broke a couple dozen and I’m not exaggerating, my Bugout is running on a single spring at this very moment 😭🤣
It always astonishes me that there are people who haven’t broken them when I look for replacements in bulk quantities.

@@BigRedEDC Part of it is my Bugout gets ~90% of the use out of my knives and I fidget with it a lot (but the mechanism’s durability is still subpar IMO).
These were $5.28 out the door by me. Bought a bunch. They make great give aways. Mine both had stiff actions at first but broke in butter smooth pretty quick. If these aren’t $5.28 worth of fun I don’t know what is. They punch way above their weight.

For some reason, my local wally marts don't ever have the holiday packs. I did manage to get a box that had a 3 pack of knives where one was a blue "shaft lock". It's definitely not the smoothest action but it's a lot better than a lot of the other Ozark Trail knives I've tried. In truth, all 3 knives in the pack were decent. What is the scales material on those like? They look nicer than my plastic blue one.

If for whatever reason I had to buy 20 knives, it would still cost less than what a single premium knife might cost. Me personally, I'd buy one just to take it apart and see how it works. 'Learning tool'

@BigRedEDC I'll have to agree. I just broke down half a 42 gallon trash bag of boxes, some were double thickness with it, and all it took was a light stropping to bring it back to hair popping. I doubt those would do that.
The lack of trust in that pricing haunts though. Like cheap peanut butter...the taste is awful.
