I reckon you're doing a fkn brilliant job mate & really appreciate the content cause you're doing it at home with basic tools in confined area & low lighting. I've learnt heaps from you over the years and thankyou for that.
I have always used methylated spirits and scotch brite squares to clean off the residue left from the metal conditioner and had no issues with primer adhesion. Greetings from Perth Gunman, love your work, inspiring stuff !
I use a normal mig for removing dents. Just lightly mig either washers or nails to the panel, then use a slide hammer. Then once the dent is removed/reduced, use pliers and a sideways "snap" to remove washer/nail, works great.
That’s how I do it. I use a thin cutting disc to remove most of the spot weld before snapping the washers off though because it sometimes pulls a piece out of the panel and then there’s a small hole that needs welding up.
I had to strip my 72 chevelle many years ago and it had a lot of coats of paint. I used paint stripper on it and it helped save a lot of time and Sand paper. Love you videos! B
Your doing a great job Just a suggestion if you haven't a dent puller Try a self tapping drew in the hole and you can pull the dent a little more level Then weld the holes backup
Personally I'm loving these videos and people haven't got to watch them if they are only going to be negative. Everyone has their own way of fixing stuff and that's life. Doing up old neglected cars is a challenge and not everyone would attempt it. But you know what the Finnished job should look like and that's all that matters. And I do up cars etc btw lol so keep up the good work Gunny Rob
I heard you said you don’t have the pin puller. What I used to do was get a round washer and use ur mig welder to tack it on and use a slide hammer with a hook on it to pull the dent out. Then grind off 👍 hope this helps mate.
You do amazing work. You prove that in the tons of pro videos you make. Having a sensible garage hobby restoration needs no apologies! After all who is going to pay you for 1000+ hours of rotisserie on that car?
i have the stud gun for the dents but i prefer using the washers instead of the pins, they do less damage to the metal, you can put a long 1/4 socket extension through the washer to lever the dent up (using a flat plate as a lever point) if its also got a crown around the dent you can lever on the crown at the same time. twisting off the washers they have never ripped out and panel steel like the pins can esp on a harder pull
I'm loving this project. Just renew company will come out with a great mechanical group at an affordable price and reminds me of when I worked all winter restoring an old VW. Got Tboned 3 days after it was finished, I was devastated. Never even got to wax the car...
I have always followed you. You and Gabe both have played a tremendous part in my success in this trade. I have only been doing this for a few years. People don't believe me when I tell them. I always say "watching gunny advanced me like 10 years" haha. I have learned alot from you and I'd like to think I'm a good painter/body tech. Gunny, on the holes where the spoiler and badges where, could you just install the proper size screw, then use a slide hammer to pull the deeper dents out? Then you wouldn't have to use so much body filler. Just a thought,
Hey gunny. Happy new year mate. You do what you do, everyone has a different way of doing things. At least i can relate to the space you have doing a car up. Can't wait to see the end result. 🤙

Hi Gunny, don't let the nay-sayers get to you mate you do you and be proud of it as you are doing a great job in your garage. It's not possible to have the entire car stripped back to bare metal due the conditions you are working in it would start to flash rust before you get a chance to get it into epoxy. Had to laugh when you were grinding the old filler out of the boot lid but it's been there a long while which just goes to show you can lay it on thick providing the metal prepped correctly, looking forward to the next one👏👌👍John UK.
Hey mate your epoxy drying issue may be occurring when u mix up, I had this issue many yrs ago, mix the primer and hardener together b4 adding an epoxy thinner, I've had no issues since, it's as if the thinner eats away at the hardener
Nothing like a rant of the gunnie😅,if someone says something,do not listen to the bs,take the good out of it,keep being yourself and get better.there is always something to learn.
Gday mate love the vids, and love the passion, something you might like to try is ToolPRO Nylon Filament Wheel Brush you can get them from most places but i feel they are way better than using wire wheels (no metal spikes in your face) they last for ages, give one a try and let us know Cheers
Mate u just do u, haters are always gonna hate, and your not trying to do a show car here is just a repaint and resto, nothing wrong with anything you have done !!
What process do you use to clean metal before epoxy? Vloggers usually don't show them cleaning, as you didn't here, but in this video the guy goes over the metal 3/4 times with degreaser. The process starts at minute 2:00. th-cam.com/video/GiWoKl0NLh4/w-d-xo.html
I've used rust buster for quite a while, KBS says not to let it dry, I find that it works really well if you brush it on then lay a cloth over it and keep the rag wet, try putting gling film over it to stop it drying out, you can then piss off for a few hours and do something else while the rust buster does it's thing.
Can you let us know how well that epoxy primer sands out. Every time I've used epoxy primer, it just clogs up my sandpaper. It's possible that it's the quality of the primer I'm using but I'd like to know you're experience with epoxy primers (in general and this one). Thanks again man.
Genesis is a great line for epoxy. Sunfire epoxy SU522 is also really good if you want something thats high build and sandable. Most epoxy are not designed to be block sanded, but rather used a protection coat and then left to dry for 3+ days. Sand and scuff by hand gently and do your filler work on top of it or prime over it with a nice sanding high build
@@looper451 I'll give them a shot, I also heard SPI is pretty good. I believe I just misunderstood the use of epoxy primer. Next time I'll do it right. I appreciate it!
