- We typically don't do this ever but for a game like Destiny that we've played since its release, it is with a heavy heart we say that voice actor Lance Reddick, the voice of Commander Zavala has passed. Our condolences to the family and close friends. The following are some of our most memorable clips of our favourite blue Commander and the incredible voice behind it.

Hello fellow Guardians! We appreciate the responses and comments that you've all left, even players from, or who have moved on to different franchise titles. Like many since 2014, Lance Reddick has voiced an amazing character that we've all grown up to appreciate over time. This is also not to exclude his incredible notable screen roles in "The Wire" and "John Wick". To us he was our Commander, Commander Zavala.
We also wanted to keep things real and leave a quick note about this as well. Although this being simply a game, to others it's not. Lots of memories with this character were made. There are many that will be affected by this more so than others, some may need months, weeks, possibly only a few days or even by tomorrow to consume the information (for us it will probably only be a few days honestly). However for those rare comments, however much time it takes for others, please be reasonable and respectful to others' comments.

i stopped playing 2 years ago. after hearing of his passing, i downloaded the game again just to pay my respects. had to, as a fellow titan
Lance Reddick was the first one to lend his voice unofficially to the Guardian Games, simply because a player asked him to. This is what the Destiny community has always been, for me: normal, living people that become friends, marry and get old.
Mr. Reddick, it's been too great an honor to have known you through your work and your acting. Rest peacefully, good sir.
Sat by zavala for 4 hours and the number of guardians that stopped by to pay their respects was crazy.

as much as i would like that, i don't think that's going to happen. They probably arent going to kill off his character, but just replace his voice actor.
@@bruteunicorn1345 If I was Lance, that's probably what I would ask for, tbh. I wouldn't want thousands of people to lose a beloved character if my life was cut short. It'll be hard to hear a new voice, but in honor of Lance, I think Zavala should stay.
Zavala should die in game but get revived by some unusual means, like vex tech or darkness shenanigans and have the voice be different
What they might do is keep his character through respect for Lance but use a voice program to mimic Lance's voice for future Destiny games and expansions, because we have the technology to do that now, but for the body motion Bungie will just use another actor to wear the motion capture body suits to do all the movements for Commander Zavala... that's what I think they'll do if they don't write Commander Zavala's character out of the story and game.
My deepest condolences from the Warframe community. As a former Titan main in D2, news of Lance's passing shocked me. Zavala was one of my favorite characters. So much so one of my Drifter sets is inspired by him. I'll be setting off fireworks in the Plains of Eidolon for you. Rest in Peace Lance.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My chocolate lab Coco died just recently, too. I'll tell her to go find your grandma, she'll love her. Coco loved to sit by my Grandma and guard her with her life, even if she never really needed to. She was loyal to the end. She never bit. She was the sweetest dog i've ever known. And now she goes on to sit by another grandma. RIP your Grandma, RIP Lance Reddick and RIP Coco. I hope that this message brings some amount of relief, hope or respite to you, and that your pain is brief. I love you for everything you are. Peace be with you.

I quit the game when Cayde was killed off, but this hits too hard to not come back to the game and remember my favourite Titan. RIP Lance.

@@Mongussy1 just thought it was dumb how they killed him off back then, destiny 2 was in a bad place at the time, felt like they killed him off just to hype up the dlc where warmind and curse of Osiris weren’t all that amazing, I did play the dlc and thought it was good but after that I took a break, tried to get back into it but just couldn’t, but now I got my old team back together so it feels more worth playing now
And trust me I ain’t the only one who quit the game because of Cayde’s death

For real , heck, Bungie should have Zavala fight alongside our Guardian, and he asks our guardian to pave the way for him, and he delivers the killing blow to the witness, as he shows us the true might of a Titan and what it means to be a guardian. Bungie should put a shitload of their budget to his final act, and blow us all away with it.
😢 I actually thought that it wasn't real, that it was a false rumor. With all of the depressing things happening in our lives, this hits the hardest. But as Zavala once said, as long as the Guardians of the Last City still fight to defend their home, we shall still stand united.

Tbh, I've always liked Zavala since D1. He might've been dry but he grew a lot over time as a character, especially as of recent.

It's so hard to imagine Destiny going forward without Zavala or at least without Lance behind him depending on what Bungie do. He was the last OG Vanguard. Cayde/Nathan is gone, Ikora/Gina was recast and now we've lost Lance. What a legend. RIP Lance, you will be missed by all Guardians.
I went away from this game and have been away, won't be returning for Lightfall but heard the news about his passing and said I need to redownload, go to the tower and pay my respects just for tonight. What warmed my heart was seeing many a guardian come up and shoot a salute to Zavala. Prayers up to Lance Reddick and his Family. May he rest in peace.

The number of guardians I saw paying their respects at the tower… it’s legitimately heartwarming, everyone gets so heated about balancing we don’t give eachother the respect of simply being a person sometimes, but let our commander serve as a uniting force to remind us that we’re all just people at the end of the day, and we should stand together against the Witness, not fight eachother.
This game has been such a big part of my life, and so has the Commander. Thank you, Lance Reddick. You made Zavala come to life and made everyones lives a little less dark with your voice. Thank you for everything.

I remember playing the Destiny 1 Beta day one and calling out of school and work on the release of destiny 2. I haven't played since shadow keep, but always loved the game and the lore. I always recognized Lance because of his role as Zavala, we lost a legend, but he will never be forgotten ✨

When the guardian games return...we don the vanguard unity shader and vanguard emblems put all classes aside and win together for him after that hold one final vigil for our fallen commander.

Earlier, I sat by Zavala. I am a titan, and I was using the Sentinels Respite emote. Many guardians came by to pay their own respects to this legendary voice actor. Rest in peace Lance Reddick, you were an amazing voice actor.
I stopped playing Destiny back when we were forming an alliance with Caitl, and Titan may have been my least played class, but Zavala followed the aim of my personal moral compass to an exact T. RIP Lance, you were an inspiration to us all. Rest well Commander, you deserve it.

RIP Lance. This game was the first ever game series i ever got into seriously and its been there for me. Ive made friends, memories, ive lost friends, spent so many hours playing this game, looking at its art, listening to its music. This game will forever hold a special place in my heart. I remember everytime i beat a raid for the first time and the joy and pride teaching new people how to do the raids. the dance parties in the tower, the triumphs and lost of our characters. The cutscene that played at the beginning of D2 that showed our triumphs in destiny and it made me cry. I love this game and everyone who works on it so lance reddick passing is deeply saddening.
