This was both heart-breaking and needed to be said. I can completely relate as a starving costume shop stitcher for a nationally renowned Opera Theater Company, one of the more famous out there... that paid us less than 200$ a week for 50-60 hour weeks with no insurance. I got into that field because it was what my heart wanted to do. After loosing thousands per month to car payments, health insurance, rent, food, medical expenses and so on and so on, for years... I had to stop. I had to stop doing what I loved with people I loved in the theater community in order to not lose my home. Now I have a desk job and hate my life. I hope you will always be free and able to pursue your dreams, and follow your heart. SALTY MERMAID PRINCESSES FOR LIIIIIIFFFFEEE. I love that you stayed on brand and used the shell. That was epic. I can't agree with Shareece more, I've done some work in event management before (but nowhere near her experience) and you really, REALLY can't get better advertising than respected people in your target community and certainly not for better value. As long as capitalism exists art HAS to be business, how on earth else can it support itself?

I love the salty siren corner. It disgusts me that larp companies do not pay you. People are joining larp because of your channels. Larp will die out if it dosnt man up and become a business. How do people running games expect games to grow? Word of mouth? sure , i guess. But youtube is the largest word of mouth ever. One person can post a video and reach thousands apon thousands of people. Just from that one video. I truly hope they sort their shit because i love and adore the powerhouse of strong ass women who pour their blood, sweat and tears into their content. Thank you , truly for all the hard work you do.
I completely agree that morally of course they should be paid but businesses often don't follow morals they follow money and however they can get more of it. So surely it, larp, becoming a business like you say doesn't guarantee anything because like Shareece said the advertising is lasting so what encourages these businesses to pay for something they are currently getting for free or as near as. That will only cost them money and as a business they want to make as much as possible so they cut whatever corners they can because you can't really talk bad about them without risking a lawsuit like Mo mo said. Of course you could rely on them to be moral beings but in my experience that doesn't generally work out very well when money and/or power and the ability to make more of it are on the line, then even the best people can be tainted.
Probably the most important larp video to date. I'm glad your saying something about this. I've been in larping for 26 years and have put in thousands of hours of skilled labor to help larps pull off an event. These larp events have needed this volunteer labor just for the event to work. But now we need to start paying for this labor and the exposure and the promotion that you guys give them. It is growing pain that needs to be endured for all larps to...well...grow. Again thanks for putting forward this essential video and all of your hard work! You deserve more! :)
I'm pretty sure the worst thing to happen to larp is me walking my wobbly butt into the hobby having no clue what I'm doing while still being greeted by wonderful people willing to help.
As a fellow TH-camr, I hate that people just assume that we get things for free, they don’t see the work that goes into making videos and how hard it can be.
As a film MUA I can 1000000% relate to this. I get underpaid on a regular basis for my craft and it's the worst because the makeup that I use (both beauty and SFX) is so HECKING EXPENSIVE and I never receive the compensation I need. If it's a bigger production, they're usually pretty good about paying their artists the proper amount for the job, which I am incredibly thankful for. However the smaller productions that treat their makeup artists as an afterthought are pretty bad about this. Like I completely understand that a smaller budget film will have a harder time paying their artists, but even a basic kit fee is necessary. And that kit fee should be accounted for in the budget, but almost 100% of the time it never is. And that's what's really frustrating, because it's always a toss up between paying my bills or buying product for my job. I can't afford both so I have to pick one, and it SUCKS. And no artist or creator of any kind should be treated this way, but we are and it sucks and I'm so sorry that you have to go through this too. But what gives me hope is the badass pastel mermaid battle princesses like this squad who use their platform to shine a light on this issue and are not afraid to talk about this. Because it needs to be talked about. Sooooo moral of the story is PAY YOUR ARTISTS GODDAMN IT ok I'm done
Thank you. You, and the other LARPtubers, have been a big part of opening up LARP to the wider world and bringing people in to this truly amazing hobby. It is never easy to get to events and you all attend so many. It is way past time for LARP companies to live up to the second part of that title and do their part in helping our hobby become more than it is.
As a young, jobless, cosplayer, aspiring LARPer... This video just kills me. I was only recently introduced to what LARP is, and since I'm still a minor, I can't technically do it yet. Once I'm 18+ I'm definitely going to begin though. I want with all my heart to be able to help all of you, and I will once I actually get a job.(Which should happen soon. Fingers crossed) You, and Mo Mo, and Kaza are the main reasons why I've fallen in love with this what I sometimes (Probably wrongly) call "Cosplay on crack". Until I am able to actually go to LARPs and maybe even eventually meet you all, I will do my best to support you, and ready myself. I really think LARP needs to market more as theater. I feel like I'm too new to straight up say....maybe drop the name LARP and rebrand---but it is literally interactive or immersive theater. You're making props, you're making costumes, you're designing sets, sometimes writing scripts and characters and editing video. Game designers are creating a theatrical production. The folks who have years of experience, who are drawing people into a LARP are performance artists, they are actors interacting very intricately with the audience and should certainly be compensated as such by the larger LARPs (see community theater vs Broadway). The costume dance my non profit hosts each year is put on by amazing volunteers, but we have a ticket fee, usually around $75, which is a huge turnoff for a lot of people. This covers a DJ or live music, flow artists, a lyra performance, a 5 course meal, the venue, and the decor---usually made from scratch by volunteers who also organize and recruit vendors/volunteers and spend months preparing an awesome experience, making sure guests feel their $75 ticket was worth it. Volunteers pay $25 for their ticket (though several of us got free tickets because we don't know when to say no), which covers the meal. We may be a tiny little non profit, but dammit we will make sure our volunteers get something! And maybe one day, we'll be able to turn a volunteer into paid staff
This was incredibly needed. You guys are typically the best form of advertising for larp as a whole, when I'm trying to convince friends as to the beauty of larp I don't send them to larp websites I send them to youtube, I send them to the people I know are going to show the best part of this community and that's you guys and you deserve the recognition and payment for the service you are providing. I'msure this was a difficult video to decide to make and I hope that everyone takes it as the lesson it is in the way that we treat youtubers in this community and how we need to evolve.

As a student and aspiring filmmaker I have SO much respect for all of the LARP videos you all make not only is the production value amazing, but they are put out for free. I know how much a pain editing two hour long shows can be and I can only imagine what editing whole weekends worth of footage is like. (like how many batteries do you have mine run out within a couple hours) And yet you all only ask, not demand, for the cost to cover what it takes to get you to the event. As a young adolescent female who had a hard time embracing her nerdy side your channel ,momos, and kazas are channels that really speak to me. You all have inspired me throughout the years that I've watched and you and given me a safe space to be in. Your channels are so well made it pains me to see they are not getting the credit they deserve.
This video has definitely made me think quite a bit. First off, I want to say that I agree 100% with every point that you, MoMo, and Shareece bring up here. As the people who are shaping the LARP community through all that you do, y'all need to be paid at least as much to break even, if not more as a bare minimum- with every event, travel, and lodging expense always covered. Additionally, as someone studying the intersection of pop culture, media and art with business, I can see Shareece's point that as LARPs become larger and grander in scale, they have to evolve into more professional organizations and need to be ready to compensate all internal staff, external staff, and special guests appropriately before any major work can be done on the event at hand. Beyond all of that though, I just want to say thank you for sticking through the piles of crap that you've had to endure thus far in order to create such amazing content! You and the others have really gotten me to delve into the world of LARP and have shown me just how fun it is to take the worlds I've built in my head and bring them to life in the flesh and blood! For that, I will always be grateful!!
Tl;DR of this video is pay your artists (art ain't free) and treat people like people. This is a hobby yes, but there are people behind the hobby that run it and build props, and some I've been to have friggin makeup departments and not counting those that make costumes for newbs or for NPCs. (Even Gestigeist has loner weapons and tabards.) It's hard frigging work. Those that do this shit deserve to be praised and thanked, because it's people like them that made the fugging hobby. I've been burnt out and tired for days once only to have some people in my group flop down cloth and "ask" for a tunic made then walk away (without giving me measurements even like wtf). Larp leaders need to step up for multiple reasons, but this is definitely a big one. They aren't entitled to our help or our talents, and they need to be shown that.
This is so true in every way. Some years ago, when I was still living on the countryside where I couldn't get any information about Larp at all, I tuned to TH-cam and there you were. Because of Momo it was my long dream to go to College of Wizardry and because of you Cheyenne I finally did go and will return. If it wasn't for you and also Kaza, I would never have started doing Larp, would never even have heard about Larps like College of Wizardry and would have missed out from so much. So thank you, thank, you thank you! I really hope Larp Organizers will start to realize, that a huge number of players are only at their games because of you. If they don't, it's their loss.
I am mainly a part time player these days. My arthritis and other health issues interfere with my larping these days. I hope people running larps and looking to grow their groups take what you say to heart. I have helped run some in the past, though, so I have that perspective. The Atlanta LARP community is large and pretty diverse. There has always been a tension between "do we want business success" and "do we want to avoid the hassle." This has often lead the community to keep the same basic format of recruiting and event running they have had for decades. I wont argue for against that format, but it is at least worth reviewing. You larp youtubers are performing a valuable service and it is perfectly reasonable for you to expect that service to be subsidized. One of those services is getting people to review their own preconceptions of what larp "should" be. Thank you for doing that. It has value.
I have worked/volunteered at conventions. Yes, special guests are important. Even my college con paid to fly guests to the con, and food and lodging. We could not afford much of appearance fees, so we had smaller guests. OF COURSE bigger cons paid guests to appear. and OF COURSE guests got preferential treatment. And yes, and and all cons/events are a business. I am glad that larger scale LARPs are starting to realize this. I have gone to a small local LARP, and it is run by a non-profit so no, there are not paid guests. But if I were to go to a LARP that charges multiple hundreds of dollars for a weekend - yes, I would expect paid and professional guests. Thanks for the video, and for the channel. I'm making plans to head back to my local boffer LARP next summer, and your channel has helped with that.

Standards of pay for services rendered will help everyone in the larp community. When designers and organizers include that in a budget, that should be transparent. With a marketing background, I see TH-camrs as influencers, but influencers and content creators can be both. I appreciate Shareece's view from the event management side, though. Either way, I think having contracts readily available can help everyone, too. -Tara

I go to my first acctual larp event this weekend and I have been scourouring youtube for coutume tutorials, larp combat tutorials, larp essentials lists and you and Mo Mo have been amazing in reaffirming that Yes this is a great hobby for me. So I want to thank you for everything you do.
It's sad because watching you guys had gotten me in to larp, even though I haven't gone to any yet, what you guys share makes me excited to get started and excited to make friends (and I have major anxiety, I'm never excited for social events) No one should be having to go in debt for helping others. I think that syndicalism and unionization can teach us a thing or two about this. If someone wants you to do work for them but won't fairly compensate the labor, you get together with your colleagues in witholding labor for that specific client/employer until fair compensation is agreed upon.

This was such a needed video. You all deserve to be treated like the professionals you are. You are all so darn valuable to the larp community. I know personally MoMo was the first female youtuber I came across and gave me the courage to try larping as a woman. And I found your channel through your video about mental health and larp, I have generalized anxiety and depression and your video made me so excited to see others with mental illness getting out there and having fun. I have made so many good friends through larp and it was through the guidance from both your uplifting videos that gave me that courage.

Hey! I just wanted to tell you I've been binge watching both yours and MoMo's videos while working on cosplay. I respected LARP, but never thought it would be something I would be interested in. I've been asked if I'd ever LARP on more than one occasion and I'd always say "I could never see myself LARP. Yep. That's where I draw my nerd line". Time for me to have a slice of humble pie because you and Momo have completely changed my mind. You guys are so fun and the LARP community seems amazing. The adventures ya'll go on are so immersive and now I want to go on my own! I wouldn't have become interested if it weren't for you guys. Ya'll are absolutely right. One to add to your list would be Larpgasm here on TH-cam. He has a Patreon and a Kofi, I believe. He makes weekly LARP videos, lots of how-tos and he goes to what sounds like a boffer fantasy LARP and post-apocalyptic. I find his tutorials on transforming everyday items for LARP helpful and inspiring.

I really enjoy this channel, and I think agree with your sentiment entirely. I'm glad you are recognizing that you are a brand and a business. As long as larp influencers (not a dirty word) give away their marketing value, your work will be expected at no cost. I love that list of expectations when people ask you to come to their larp; travel, accommodation, entry, and payment. This is not part of your hobby, this is a job. For your hobby, go to larps you want, craft what you want, video what you want, for your enjoyment and don't go into financial ruin. It amazes me that you all haven't burt out already.
I never even heard of LARP until I came across one of Mo Mos videos. After watching these videos I have actually begun looking into attending a LARP. In other words her videos are doing a HUGE service as I would be way more comfortable attending a LARP that you guys promote than one I have never hear of. Keep fighting for yourselves as your marketing value is HUGE!!
Let me tell you, the (marketing) power MoMo, you and all other youtubers have is _immense_ . I'm not the target demographic of the many more teen oriented channels on youtube, so whatever they're pushing never worked for me, but now I am venturing into LARPing because of the approachable introduction I got through videos on TH-cam. Getting kit is expensive, going to these big immersive larps is even more expensive. If LARPs want to expand their reach and thus production quality, they need to recognize the power y'all have.
Hello, I just subscribed. I found you through Mo mo. I think your videos so far have been amazing and this one was so very important. I am also chronically ill and have been bed bound for about a decade so I can't actually physically LARP anymore but I'm a writer so often I contribute to the creation of LARPS here in England and that includes helping with the creation of both the main story and character creation. I love it. I also suffer from mental illness and both tabletop RP and LARP really did save my life. Making music, writing and Roleplay were my saviours in my darkest hours and I love that people like you and Mo Mo and others are doing so much for the community and making LARP more accessible for so many people and giving so many people a better understanding of what LARP is and how valuable it can be. I never did understand the stigma, People act for a hobby or even a career and how is that so different? Anyway, as much as I love what I do I do find that I have similar issues with the bigger LARPS. It's not the same situation obviously but I still feel like I can heavily relate. Thank you for the wonderful content. Your editing is superb.
I feel your pain. I have been asked, countless times, to do hair and makeup, including SFX makeup for different shows, events, etc and am treated like a greedy a**hole if I even mention in passing any form of compensation. I’ve been asked to drive an hour away and more to bring my own supplies and spend lots of time doing these things, all for free. And I used to, partly for fun, experience, and the opportunity to collaborate and learn even more, but that was when I was still living at home and not having to pay rent and was still new enough to the whole thing that I felt I wasn’t yet worthy of compensation. But now I know my worth and I have had to put my foot down, even knowing that it will generally not be well-received. Thank you for making this video. I’m glad someone, especially with such a platform and the visibility, is saying this. It’s long overdue. ❤️

I so appreciate your hard work, dedication, and constancy with not just promoting LARPs, but educating us about LARP issues, sharing tutorials, inspiring us to be better LARPers, and having transparency about your life as an artist. Any LARP with the skills and budget can make a kickass teaser vid that gets people drooling....but when trusted content creators like yourself, who struggle with issues similar to mine and value gameplay similar to what I value, attend a LARP and share their experience, I feel like I can make a more informed decision, and am likely to have more fun (which is huge, considering the cost to travel and attend LARPs). I will never not financially support as many of you as I can, and thank you for not giving up on this community, even though some few shits sneak in every once in awhile to whine.

All of this is so true. I may be a new content creator but I understand this fully. People need to realize how much hard work gets put in everything a content creator does and need to be more nicer/appreciative and patient about it.

From what I've experienced …. people ALWAYS try to low ball and screw over artists...no matter which medium … I suppose they live under the impression that "loving" something = doesn't require equipment , sacrifice and effort. Don't let the begging choosers get you down.
I would have never thought about trying to get the stuff together for my first character who is still under the works if it were not for the great videos from all the larp youtubers
After seeing momos video on becolline I saved up to go sadly I lost all that money before being able to go on that venture you guys larp house, larp girl, momo and even now mochie are the reason I am excited to go larping one day if I had money to spare you bet it would go to the creators I love because you guys get me excited to be that character I have thought up or played in dnd. You guys are unsung heroes to us band of people who wish to find that escape to find our true selves by getting lost in our characters.
I'm watching this (I've been preparing mentally for ren faires and these videos help a lot ^_^) my boyfriend asked what it was. So I explained that its a really expensive hobby (but fun) and that it's a really small community. Now he's interested in doing a sci-fy larp. I'm so glad their are larp creators and I would totally be fine with larp being like ren faires. I'm honestly surprised it's not and it kind of upsets me. y'all are amazing. You deserve more for sure.
I'm really glad you made a video about this. Following y'all on social media and seeing how poorly some companies have treated you baffles me and makes me feel so bad for you. These companies who are making these big budget blockbuster larps really need to step up their game and I'm glad you put your foot down with this video. Your content is amazing and it shocks me that more companies don't respect that. Larp is an escape and you guys deserve to not have to think about real life problems that are being caused/exacerbated by going to these games. I don't think local games are the problem but blockbuster larps really need to think about how they're going about things. You guys deserve the best treatment possible but I'd expect human decency to be the bare minimum.
I'm so glad you do make these videos! I'm in the UK and at the moment I can't go LARPing because of money cost and traveling and your videos satisfy my LARPing needs until the time comes when I can finally go out on the field :D
Good on you guys for speaking out about it. Every independent content creator of any genre has to deal with people accusing them of being paid to mess around, especially those at the mercy of larger companies. Independent creators NEED crowdfunding to survive because TH-cam takes so much money from videos IF you make money at all on TH-cam, not to mention the worries of subscriptions, alerts, and the ridiculous bots and ease of demonetization. One independent success is Jim Sterling, a video game critic who is funded entirely by Patreon, but that's because he had a history in his medium and reputation beforehand, and part of his brand is to be offensive and demonetize-able because he doesn't need TH-cam ads. LARP folks don't have those advantages unless they were already known for something else, which I don't think any of you guys were off the top of my head. It's ridiculous that LARP influencers and content creators are treated similarly to artists and a lot of small-time entertainers. While Entertainment is arguably one of the most important industries in the entire world, entertainers and artists are treated like shit. Apparently bartering or even just 'exposure' are good enough for creative people. Nevermind that hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of people wouldn't know about some companies without the artists or entertainers who showcase them. Thousands of people wouldn't know Bicolline without MoMo. Thousands of people wouldn't know the Wizarding School LARPs, the pirate ship LARP, and so much more if not for you folks. You guys are ultimate advertising because you're genuine, excited, you put a ton of effort and love into your work, and you come out with positive reviews while also not revealing everything (like a good book description) so watchers want to experience it themselves to get the full story. So why is it that PR and Marketing firms make so much money, but the artists and entertainers whose shoulders they stand on, are treated like slaves, lesser people, even lazy? Art is work. Entertainment is work. I would even debate that creative work is much harder than typical work. Typical work is already planned with little creativity or improv needed. Art is imagining, planning, gathering, executing, editing, maybe second and third drafts, marketing, delivery, and so much more. Independent folks do the work of entire companies by themselves, and independent artists do the work of two or three companies. I love independent creators, even those whose content I don't have interest in. That's why I adore and want to support those who want to do this independent stuff full time. I want to see you guys get paid for your work, or at least be able to make enough money afterward and through crowdfunding to do as much of this as you guys want. If I could, I'd gladly pay a bunch of the top LARP channels to do nothing but make their costumes and props, do paid promos for awesome LARP and Replica shops, help them get sponsors, help them travel worldwide, and explore as many LARPs big and small as possible. Because those things all need to be done, and I don't want non-independents and bought-off celebrities doing them. I want MoMo, I want LarpHouse, I want LarpGirl, etc. You guys do so many things in one place that other channels only do facets of, you combine them all for a form of art and entertainment that we as kids used to play with every day and wish we had the makeup and costumes and props. God, I wish I could be that patron who picked up the top ten LARP channels and made sure they could do what they loved and live comfortably.

This was both heart-breaking and needed to be said. I can completely relate as a starving costume shop stitcher for a nationally renowned Opera Theater Company, one of the more famous out there... that paid us less than 200$ a week for 50-60 hour weeks with no insurance. I got into that field because it was what my heart wanted to do. After loosing thousands per month to car payments, health insurance, rent, food, medical expenses and so on and so on, for years... I had to stop. I had to stop doing what I loved with people I loved in the theater community in order to not lose my home. Now I have a desk job and hate my life. I hope you will always be free and able to pursue your dreams, and follow your heart. SALTY MERMAID PRINCESSES FOR LIIIIIIFFFFEEE. I love that you stayed on brand and used the shell. That was epic. I love the salty siren corner. It disgusts me that larp companies do not pay you. People are joining larp because of your channels. Larp will die out if it dosnt man up and become a business. How do people running games expect games to grow? Word of mouth? sure , i guess. But youtube is the largest word of mouth ever. One person can post a video and reach thousands apon thousands of people. Just from that one video. I truly hope they sort their shit because i love and adore the powerhouse of strong ass women who pour their blood, sweat and tears into their content. Thank you , truly for all the hard work you do.
I completely agree that morally of course they should be paid but businesses often don't follow morals they follow money and however they can get more of it. So surely it, larp, becoming a business like you say doesn't guarantee anything because like Shareece said the advertising is lasting so what encourages these businesses to pay for something they are currently getting for free or as near as. That will only cost them money and as a business they want to make as much as possible so they cut whatever corners they can because you can't really talk bad about them without risking a lawsuit like Mo mo said. Of course you could rely on them to be moral beings but in my experience that doesn't generally work out very well when money and/or power and the ability to make more of it are on the line, then even the best people can be tainted.

Probably the most important larp video to date. I'm glad your saying something about this. I've been in larping for 26 years and have put in thousands of hours of skilled labor to help larps pull off an event. These larp events have needed this volunteer labor just for the event to work. But now we need to start paying for this labor and the exposure and the promotion that you guys give them. It is growing pain that needs to be endured for all larps to...well...grow.

I'm pretty sure the worst thing to happen to larp is me walking my wobbly butt into the hobby having no clue what I'm doing while still being greeted by wonderful people willing to help.
As a fellow TH-camr, I hate that people just assume that we get things for free, they don’t see the work that goes into making videos and how hard it can be.
As a film MUA I can 1000000% relate to this. I get underpaid on a regular basis for my craft and it's the worst because the makeup that I use (both beauty and SFX) is so HECKING EXPENSIVE and I never receive the compensation I need. If it's a bigger production, they're usually pretty good about paying their artists the proper amount for the job, which I am incredibly thankful for. However the smaller productions that treat their makeup artists as an afterthought are pretty bad about this. Like I completely understand that a smaller budget film will have a harder time paying their artists, but even a basic kit fee is necessary. And that kit fee should be accounted for in the budget, but almost 100% of the time it never is. And that's what's really frustrating, because it's always a toss up between paying my bills or buying product for my job. I can't afford both so I have to pick one, and it SUCKS. And no artist or creator of any kind should be treated this way, but we are and it sucks and I'm so sorry that you have to go through this too. But what gives me hope is the badass pastel mermaid battle princesses like this squad who use their platform to shine a light on this issue and are not afraid to talk about this. Because it needs to be talked about. Sooooo moral of the story is PAY YOUR ARTISTS GODDAMN IT ok I'm done

As a young, jobless, cosplayer, aspiring LARPer... This video just kills me. I was only recently introduced to what LARP is, and since I'm still a minor, I can't technically do it yet. Once I'm 18+ I'm definitely going to begin though. I want with all my heart to be able to help all of you, and I will once I actually get a job.(Which should happen soon. Fingers crossed) You, and Mo Mo, and Kaza are the main reasons why I've fallen in love with this what I sometimes (Probably wrongly) call "Cosplay on crack". Until I am able to actually go to LARPs and maybe even eventually meet you all, I will do my best to support you, and ready myself. I really think LARP needs to market more as theater. I feel like I'm too new to straight up say....maybe drop the name LARP and rebrand---but it is literally interactive or immersive theater. You're making props, you're making costumes, you're designing sets, sometimes writing scripts and characters and editing video. Game designers are creating a theatrical production. The folks who have years of experience, who are drawing people into a LARP are performance artists, they are actors interacting very intricately with the audience and should certainly be compensated as such by the larger LARPs (see community theater vs Broadway).
The costume dance my non profit hosts each year is put on by amazing volunteers, but we have a ticket fee, usually around $75, which is a huge turnoff for a lot of people. This covers a DJ or live music, flow artists, a lyra performance, a 5 course meal, the venue, and the decor---usually made from scratch by volunteers who also organize and recruit vendors/volunteers and spend months preparing an awesome experience, making sure guests feel their $75 ticket was worth it. Volunteers pay $25 for their ticket (though several of us got free tickets because we don't know when to say no), which covers the meal. We may be a tiny little non profit, but dammit we will make sure our volunteers get something! And maybe one day, we'll be able to turn a volunteer into paid staff

This was incredibly needed. You guys are typically the best form of advertising for larp as a whole, when I'm trying to convince friends as to the beauty of larp I don't send them to larp websites I send them to youtube, I send them to the people I know are going to show the best part of this community and that's you guys and you deserve the recognition and payment for the service you are providing. I'msure this was a difficult video to decide to make and I hope that everyone takes it as the lesson it is in the way that we treat youtubers in this community and how we need to evolve.

As a student and aspiring filmmaker I have SO much respect for all of the LARP videos you all make not only is the production value amazing, but they are put out for free. I know how much a pain editing two hour long shows can be and I can only imagine what editing whole weekends worth of footage is like. (like how many batteries do you have mine run out within a couple hours) And yet you all only ask, not demand, for the cost to cover what it takes to get you to the event. Blows me away people can't just appreciate the wonderful content you beautiful people give to us. Sending love your way, and wishing I had money to help support.

As a young adolescent female who had a hard time embracing her nerdy side your channel ,momos, and kazas are channels that really speak to me. You all have inspired me throughout the years that I've watched and you and given me a safe space to be in. Your channels are so well made it pains me to see they are not getting the credit they deserve.
This video has definitely made me think quite a bit. First off, I want to say that I agree 100% with every point that you, MoMo, and Shareece bring up here. As the people who are shaping the LARP community through all that you do, y'all need to be paid at least as much to break even, if not more as a bare minimum- with every event, travel, and lodging expense always covered. Additionally, as someone studying the intersection of pop culture, media and art with business, I can see Shareece's point that as LARPs become larger and grander in scale, they have to evolve into more professional organizations and need to be ready to compensate all internal staff, external staff, and special guests appropriately before any major work can be done on the event at hand. Beyond all of that though, I just want to say thank you for sticking through the piles of crap that you've had to endure thus far in order to create such amazing content! You and the others have really gotten me to delve into the world of LARP and have shown me just how fun it is to take the worlds I've built in my head and bring them to life in the flesh and blood! For that, I will always be grateful!!
Tl;DR of this video is pay your artists (art ain't free) and treat people like people. This is a hobby yes, but there are people behind the hobby that run it and build props, and some I've been to have friggin makeup departments and not counting those that make costumes for newbs or for NPCs. (Even Gestigeist has loner weapons and tabards.) It's hard frigging work. Those that do this shit deserve to be praised and thanked, because it's people like them that made the fugging hobby. I've been burnt out and tired for days once only to have some people in my group flop down cloth and "ask" for a tunic made then walk away (without giving me measurements even like wtf).
Larp leaders need to step up for multiple reasons, but this is definitely a big one. They aren't entitled to our help or our talents, and they need to be shown that.

This is so true in every way. Some years ago, when I was still living on the countryside where I couldn't get any information about Larp at all, I tuned to TH-cam and there you were. Because of Momo it was my long dream to go to College of Wizardry and because of you Cheyenne I finally did go and will return. If it wasn't for you and also Kaza, I would never have started doing Larp, would never even have heard about Larps like College of Wizardry and would have missed out from so much. So thank you, thank, you thank you! I really hope Larp Organizers will start to realize, that a huge number of players are only at their games because of you. If they don't, it's their loss.

I am mainly a part time player these days. My arthritis and other health issues interfere with my larping these days. I hope people running larps and looking to grow their groups take what you say to heart. I have helped run some in the past, though, so I have that perspective. The Atlanta LARP community is large and pretty diverse. There has always been a tension between "do we want business success" and "do we want to avoid the hassle." This has often lead the community to keep the same basic format of recruiting and event running they have had for decades. I wont argue for against that format, but it is at least worth reviewing. You larp youtubers are performing a valuable service and it is perfectly reasonable for you to expect that service to be subsidized. One of those services is getting people to review their own preconceptions of what larp "should" be. Thank you for doing that. It has value.

I have worked/volunteered at conventions. Yes, special guests are important. Even my college con paid to fly guests to the con, and food and lodging. We could not afford much of appearance fees, so we had smaller guests. OF COURSE bigger cons paid guests to appear. and OF COURSE guests got preferential treatment. And yes, and and all cons/events are a business. I am glad that larger scale LARPs are starting to realize this. I have gone to a small local LARP, and it is run by a non-profit so no, there are not paid guests. But if I were to go to a LARP that charges multiple hundreds of dollars for a weekend - yes, I would expect paid and professional guests.

Standards of pay for services rendered will help everyone in the larp community. When designers and organizers include that in a budget, that should be transparent. With a marketing background, I see TH-camrs as influencers, but influencers and content creators can be both. I appreciate Shareece's view from the event management side, though. Either way, I think having contracts readily available can help everyone, too. -Tara

I go to my first acctual larp event this weekend and I have been scourouring youtube for coutume tutorials, larp combat tutorials, larp essentials lists and you and Mo Mo have been amazing in reaffirming that Yes this is a great hobby for me. So I want to thank you for everything you do.
It's sad because watching you guys had gotten me in to larp, even though I haven't gone to any yet, what you guys share makes me excited to get started and excited to make friends (and I have major anxiety, I'm never excited for social events) No one should be having to go in debt for helping others. I think that syndicalism and unionization can teach us a thing or two about this. If someone wants you to do work for them but won't fairly compensate the labor, you get together with your colleagues in witholding labor for that specific client/employer until fair compensation is agreed upon.

I've been asked if I'd ever LARP on more than one occasion and I'd always say "I could never see myself LARP. Yep. That's where I draw my nerd line". Time for me to have a slice of humble pie because you and Momo have completely changed my mind. You guys are so fun and the LARP community seems amazing. Creators like you and Momo are so, so, so important for LARP. When I was first asked to do LARP I didn't go, it took me 3 years between then and my first event and it changed my life and gave me the most amazing friends
I'm rather new the the LARP community, but you give me a huge sense of hope. LARP is something I consider the perfect outlet for feelings I don't get to express. One to add to your list would be Larpgasm here on TH-cam. He has a Patreon and a Kofi, I believe. He makes weekly LARP videos, lots of how-tos and he goes to what sounds like a boffer fantasy LARP and post-apocalyptic. I find his tutorials on transforming everyday items for LARP helpful and inspiring.

I really enjoy this channel, and I think agree with your sentiment entirely. I'm glad you are recognizing that you are a brand and a business. As long as larp influencers (not a dirty word) give away their marketing value, your work will be expected at no cost. I love that list of expectations when people ask you to come to their larp; travel, accommodation, entry, and payment. This is not part of your hobby, this is a job. For your hobby, go to larps you want, craft what you want, video what you want, for your enjoyment and don't go into financial ruin. It amazes me that you all haven't burt out already.
I never even heard of LARP until I came across one of Mo Mos videos. After watching these videos I have actually begun looking into attending a LARP. In other words her videos are doing a HUGE service as I would be way more comfortable attending a LARP that you guys promote than one I have never hear of. Keep fighting for yourselves as your marketing value is HUGE!!

Let me tell you, the (marketing) power MoMo, you and all other youtubers have is _immense_ . I'm not the target demographic of the many more teen oriented channels on youtube, so whatever they're pushing never worked for me, but now I am venturing into LARPing because of the approachable introduction I got through videos on TH-cam. Getting kit is expensive, going to these big immersive larps is even more expensive. If LARPs want to expand their reach and thus production quality, they need to recognize the power y'all have.
Hello, I just subscribed. I found you through Mo mo. I think your videos so far have been amazing and this one was so very important. I am also chronically ill and have been bed bound for about a decade so I can't actually physically LARP anymore but I'm a writer so often I contribute to the creation of LARPS here in England and that includes helping with the creation of both the main story and character creation. I love it. I also suffer from mental illness and both tabletop RP and LARP really did save my life. Making music, writing and Roleplay were my saviours in my darkest hours and I love that people like you and Mo Mo and others are doing so much for the community and making LARP more accessible for so many people and giving so many people a better understanding of what LARP is and how valuable it can be. I never did understand the stigma, People act for a hobby or even a career and how is that so different?
Anyway, as much as I love what I do I do find that I have similar issues with the bigger LARPS. It's not the same situation obviously but I still feel like I can heavily relate. Thank you for the wonderful content. Your editing is superb.
I feel your pain. I have been asked, countless times, to do hair and makeup, including SFX makeup for different shows, events, etc and am treated like a greedy a**hole if I even mention in passing any form of compensation. I’ve been asked to drive an hour away and more to bring my own supplies and spend lots of time doing these things, all for free. And I used to, partly for fun, experience, and the opportunity to collaborate and learn even more, but that was when I was still living at home and not having to pay rent and was still new enough to the whole thing that I felt I wasn’t yet worthy of compensation. But now I know my worth and I have had to put my foot down, even knowing that it will generally not be well-received. Thank you for making this video. I’m glad someone, especially with such a platform and the visibility, is saying this. It’s long overdue. ❤️
I'm not sure how I hopped into Larp TH-cam, but there is a good chance I might try it. Which would have been unthinkable in the past. Also quarantine...

I so appreciate your hard work, dedication, and constancy with not just promoting LARPs, but educating us about LARP issues, sharing tutorials, inspiring us to be better LARPers, and having transparency about your life as an artist. Any LARP with the skills and budget can make a kickass teaser vid that gets people drooling....but when trusted content creators like yourself, who struggle with issues similar to mine and value gameplay similar to what I value, attend a LARP and share their experience, I feel like I can make a more informed decision, and am likely to have more fun (which is huge, considering the cost to travel and attend LARPs). I will never not financially support as many of you as I can, and thank you for not giving up on this community, even though some few shits sneak in every once in awhile to whine.

Watching these videos keeps me engaged with the hobby even when I'm too busy to do it myself in my own life. It means so much to watch these videos and experience these amazing events. What makes me so sad is that this video was necessary. My friend A. And I were talking this week about how often we (as women) often undervalue or diminish the things that we do in order to appear socially acceptable. Be confident stand up for your worth. I feel terrible because I genuinely really want to donate to your and MoMo's patreons because you both have impacted my outlook on myself and my confidence in larping and theater. All of this is so true. I may be a new content creator but I understand this fully. People need to realize how much hard work gets put in everything a content creator does and need to be more nicer/appreciative and patient about it.

Its simple. These people put time and days into their content. People watch it and love it. If you love what the do and love watching their content. Nothing is free all the time. To donate for content is not a bad thing and it needs to stop becoming an assumption that just because they love to do it, and make content shouldn't get donations.She's good at what she does- we get enjoyment out of it. From what I've experienced …. people ALWAYS try to low ball and screw over artists...no matter which medium … I suppose they live under the impression that "loving" something = doesn't require equipment , sacrifice and effort. Don't let the begging choosers get you down.
I would have never thought about trying to get the stuff together for my first character who is still under the works if it were not for the great videos from all the larp youtubers
After seeing momos video on becolline I saved up to go sadly I lost all that money before being able to go on that venture you guys larp house, larp girl, momo and even now mochie are the reason I am excited to go larping one day if I had money to spare you bet it would go to the creators I love because you guys get me excited to be that character I have thought up or played in dnd. You guys are unsung heroes to us band of people who wish to find that escape to find our true selves by getting lost in our characters.

I'm watching this (I've been preparing mentally for ren faires and these videos help a lot ^_^) my boyfriend asked what it was. So I explained that its a really expensive hobby (but fun) and that it's a really small community. Now he's interested in doing a sci-fy larp. I'm so glad their are larp creators and I would totally be fine with larp being like ren faires. I'm honestly surprised it's not and it kind of upsets me. y'all are amazing. You deserve more for sure.
I'm really glad you made a video about this. Following y'all on social media and seeing how poorly some companies have treated you baffles me and makes me feel so bad for you. These companies who are making these big budget blockbuster larps really need to step up their game and I'm glad you put your foot down with this video. Your content is amazing and it shocks me that more companies don't respect that. Larp is an escape and you guys deserve to not have to think about real life problems that are being caused/exacerbated by going to these games. I don't think local games are the problem but blockbuster larps really need to think about how they're going about things. You guys deserve the best treatment possible but I'd expect human decency to be the bare minimum.
I'm so glad you do make these videos! I'm in the UK and at the moment I can't go LARPing because of money cost and traveling and your videos satisfy my LARPing needs until the time comes when I can finally go out on the field :D

Good on you guys for speaking out about it. Every independent content creator of any genre has to deal with people accusing them of being paid to mess around, especially those at the mercy of larger companies. Independent creators NEED crowdfunding to survive because TH-cam takes so much money from videos IF you make money at all on TH-cam, not to mention the worries of subscriptions, alerts, and the ridiculous bots and ease of demonetization. One independent success is Jim Sterling, a video game critic who is funded entirely by Patreon, but that's because he had a history in his medium and reputation beforehand, and part of his brand is to be offensive and demonetize-able because he doesn't need TH-cam ads. LARP folks don't have those advantages unless they were already known for something else, which I don't think any of you guys were off the top of my head.
It's ridiculous that LARP influencers and content creators are treated similarly to artists and a lot of small-time entertainers. While Entertainment is arguably one of the most important industries in the entire world, entertainers and artists are treated like shit. Apparently bartering or even just 'exposure' are good enough for creative people. Nevermind that hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of people wouldn't know about some companies without the artists or entertainers who showcase them. Thousands of people wouldn't know Bicolline without MoMo. Thousands of people wouldn't know the Wizarding School LARPs, the pirate ship LARP, and so much more if not for you folks. You guys are ultimate advertising because you're genuine, excited, you put a ton of effort and love into your work, and you come out with positive reviews while also not revealing everything (like a good book description) so watchers want to experience it themselves to get the full story. So why is it that PR and Marketing firms make so much money, but the artists and entertainers whose shoulders they stand on, are treated like slaves, lesser people, even lazy? Art is work. Entertainment is work. I would even debate that creative work is much harder than typical work. Typical work is already planned with little creativity or improv needed. Art is imagining, planning, gathering, executing, editing, maybe second and third drafts, marketing, delivery, and so much more. Independent folks do the work of entire companies by themselves, and independent artists do the work of two or three companies.
I love independent creators, even those whose content I don't have interest in. That's why I adore and want to support those who want to do this independent stuff full time. I want to see you guys get paid for your work, or at least be able to make enough money afterward and through crowdfunding to do as much of this as you guys want. If I could, I'd gladly pay a bunch of the top LARP channels to do nothing but make their costumes and props, do paid promos for awesome LARP and Replica shops, help them get sponsors, help them travel worldwide, and explore as many LARPs big and small as possible. Because those things all need to be done, and I don't want non-independents and bought-off celebrities doing them. I want MoMo, I want LarpHouse, I want LarpGirl, etc. You guys do so many things in one place that other channels only do facets of, you combine them all for a form of art and entertainment that we as kids used to play with every day and wish we had the makeup and costumes and props. God, I wish I could be that patron who picked up the top ten LARP channels and made sure they could do what they loved and live comfortably.
I appreciate you and your channel (and the others like you) so so much, you should be paid so much for this, its so valuable for me, hopefully things change for the better soon
