      @@CarnegieMNH great video.
      When I was a kid, I wondered if slugs were snails that just took their shells off for a while. I soon learned that slugs and snails are two completely seperate species and that snails, like turtles, are connected to their shells. Their shells are part of their bodies and connected to them like our fingernails are connected to us. The only way to remove a snail or turtle from their shells would be with a knife and would cause blood, pain, and maybe would kill them.
      Some people may've also mistakenly thought that snails can crawl out of their shells any time because when eating escargot you can pull the snail out of the shell. But of course that's only because those snails are killed, the soft part of their bodies are cut out of their shells, and are then seasoned, cooked, and then placed back in them

    Great video, and you can really tell this man loves his job and is passionate about gastropods and mollusks!
    My favorite thing is when he talks about slugs going into little "hidey holes" from predators and to keep themselves moist versus saying something more complicated in place of what he chose to say instead.
    Questions I have, now, is do slugs have less strength than snails because of their hollowed out foot to internalize their organs? Or are they both comparable in strength? Do semi-slugs out match both because they are an evolutionary in-between of snails and slugs?

    • @hollymarietonepahhote-wins4450
      @hollymarietonepahhote-wins4450 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically they are able to, but it's very unlikely. Snails try to find the perfect mate in order to pass down their best genes to the offspring. Female and male snails both have special tastes of what they're looking for, and because they're hermaphrodites, they can be VERY picky. Most all the time, they want the same species to breed with. ☺

They can't mate even if they wanted to, the way they do it is different.
