It's Lois here today, please join me as I paint this beautiful scene from The Kyle Of Lochalsh in Scotland, trying to capture the bleak beauty of the sky, mountains and lake, with the focus on the sunlight catching the walls of the cottages and the masts of the boats on the far distant shore. It's an impressionistic loose watercolour painting using the line and wash and wet in wet method and really simplifying the scene to create atmosphere rather than the detail.
Materials: Saunders Waterford 140lb/300gsm cold pressed watercolour paper, 11" by 15"/28cms x 38cms. It is taped to my board and my board is at an angle of about 45 degrees. I used a carpenter's pencil to draw the scene, and a size Medium waterproff Faber Castell fine liner to ink in the line work. My colours today are cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, lavender blue, paynes grey and raw sienna

Very good Lois . I paint myself but unfortunately had a poor start and little tutoring. I like Ron Ranson and William Houton Cooper. Campbel Smith aswell. You show folk how it’s done. I love that . for me watching is how I learn reading books doesn’t relay the technique thank you

Hello Lois. Shame the boat got sunk....LOL Just kidding. How outlandish would it have been to set it sailing among the clouds??? You're very own airship. LOL
Another stunning image made so simple, yet so lifelike even without details. Altogether beautiful.
A harsh and rugged landscape with a deep sense of peace throughout . A bit of a Bob Ross feeling to it in a way.
I admire the abstaining from masking fluid, either confident in your skill, or very brave.
It's just the kind of setting my heart has desired to live in since I was boy. Now age and having an aversion to the cold have the brakes planted firmly on, and so staying put for the foreseeable future.
I just had thought, (I know, that's unsafe in the extreme), how a very different the atmosphere would be if this was painted as a summer scene, with heather on the distant slopes.
Well, not matter the wanderings of my mind, it's beautiful to see and to feel. Thank you again Lois. TTFN

I'm afraid I don't have a list, please just use any similar brushes that you may have, it isn't important to use the same brushes as me, the important thing is to practice and get to know the brushes you have! 😊
