Zach with Eddy: teacher with a first time student
Sykirah with Brett: college student teaching confused grandpa to be like the cool kids
Brett was a game gramps tho
Right? The Zach and Eddy felt a lot like Voice Fundies class I had in college as a Music Education major (before I switch and graduated with a degree in Comp Sci), and Brett's class felt like "What is this music you people listen to? Who is this Lady GooGoo you kids always talkin' about?"
OMG, YOU NAILED IT!
CONFUSED GRANDPA HAHAHAHA I LOVE IT
Im laughing so hard at this
*Zach's teaching method:* Like a mama deer coaxing their young to walk their first steps.
*Syakirah's teaching method:* A wild bird throwing their chick off the cliff so they can learn how to fly.
syakirah is basically throwing brett in the deep end
So elegantly put.
that's so true it hurts
Sometimes it's too sudden it doesn't help
Underrated comment
Brett’s voice is so deep, he literally learnt the opposite of his actual vocal range that must’ve hurt bro
he could have hurt his throat actually, singing in a high pitch when you're clearly a lower range and have no training is dangerous if you dont know the basics :(
@@FranuxuMusic12 yeah :(
Gaga is actually a contralto, but she can ace those high notes perfectly fine
@@LingLingWannaBeLah She’s a mezzo soprano
@@FranuxuMusic12 That's weird to me, I always thought it's the bass singers that paradoxically have an easier time switching to falsetto. That's how I see it in a capella groups at least.
Brett should be classically trained. He actually has a lovely voice.
Please please please!!
Agree! His voice is incredible and hopefully they do a more serious vocal training in under 1 hour type of video because I can really see him shine. He has a beautiful deep tone.
I'm a singing teacher, and I think so too. Brett has a very nice, rich bass baritone voice♥️👍🎶, but forcing him into falsetto in the pop song was not doing his voice any favours 😂
@@lolaskw2795 yesss that was a fun but bad call njsjsjs he'd have killed the ari chorus part

@@kristin123a yo, da Diva, there can only be one
Omg loooool
I was in a choir and this is so trueeeee
As a first soprano, I feel personally attacked.
It felt like Eddy's teacher was slowly pushing him from behind to the goal while Brett's teacher tied him up to a horse and dragged him.
lmao too true
True but I imagine it's probably mostly for the comedic effect! Which was certainly achieved
Omg😂😂😂
So true I was watching this and I’m like oh God Brett is so screwed.
bretts teacher was trash talking and then failed to teach anything because it seems like she didnt have anything to teach lol i bet her technique for learning was to sing in the shower
Brett’s teacher is literally so mentally draining. Like I cannot watch this. All she did was just play a song way out of bretts vocal abilities. Then proceeds to take the spotlight and leaves Brett at a stump because she didn’t actually teach him any skills. He practically learnt anything.
(I’m a choir singer )
I know. I've had a few years of voice lessons and Syakirah literally did nothing that is even remotely close to a voice lesson. And throughout the entire video, all she could do was play with her hair and pose for the camera. Honestly, that was so distracting and offputting.
Thank you! It hurt my soul. Brett just ended up hurting his voice and not learning anything. They should do a 1-hour video on learning how to sing. Also no offense but she's really breathy and needs to work on her annunciation.
Yes
@@SarahNP yes exactly! i couldn’t stand her behaviors throughout this video. ugh

A. It didn’t suit Brett’s voice but it added a bit of jalapeño to the video as it definitely caught Brett off guard
B. It shows their personality contrast (Zach and Syakirah), and it’s lovely
" LET'S SING A SING WAAAYYY OUTSIDE YOU VOCAL RANGE EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT SERIOUSLY INJURE YOU VOCAL CORDS! WE'RE HERE TO HAVE FUN NOT LEARN ABOUT 'DAMENTALS "
Syakirah was so unprofessional, am kinda shocked actually. Vocal training is not a joke and high notes / bad technique can ruin your voice very quickly. She seemed to have no idea about technique whatsoever, she just is born with a good voice herself but she's a terrible teacher. The contrast with Zach was so sharp, as he spoke about basic technique, chose an adapted piece and helped Eddy sound good.
i GENUINELY thought she was joking around till i realized she was dead serious...
She didn't even hit the high notes herself.. How should Brett nail them then?
syakirah isnt a teacher

@Matt W honestly, as a female alto who can get to f top line of the staff, but not without LOTS of warm-up to actually sound nice, and to F below middle C but again with LOTS of warm up, that was incredibly painful. Especially the fact that he was still trying to match her octave instead of singing in his own and she didn't help him through that. Brett had lovely round tone... when he was allowed to sing in his range.
Yeah that chick was cringing me out

Breathing properly is surprisingly difficult for something you do all day everyday even in your sleep.

Can we please have a rematch between Eddy and Brett, but with just Zach teaching them two different songs that best showcase their vocal?
Oof 💀

Oh YES please, so they could both actually learn singing….
Yes!! There’s a seriously over bearing “sound” that’s pretty distracting…😐
Amen to that! That was really unfair for Brett.
My God, yes PLEASE! This girl has no idea what the word humility means (and she really, really should) nor how to teach. Just yelling at someone isn't teaching.
I know that Syakirah's part was played for entertainment, and I give Brett 10 gold stars for throwing himself into an impossible task. And the bit gave some laughs. But it would be very enjoyable to have Zach teach them both a piece. I think Brett would do super well in that too.
I agree, I really wish both of them had done both versions.
Zach's lesson was like, professional, then Syakirah's was like teaching your bff a new song just so they can sing along.
Syakirah was super annoying
@@balping I’m honestly not sure whether she is (over-)acting or not, but regardless, she doesn’t quite seem like a good teacher.

Yes, you are so right. It sounds from his speaking voice as if he can sing somewhat.
If you’re gonna tackle a Lady Gaga song, it would’ve been better if she went with Bad Romance. The opening has some vocal pitch warm ups, catchy, comprehensive lyrics. Brett would’ve stood a chance.
Exactly! I think the general notes are lower than this one, and maybe more fit for Brett's voice too
thats actually a wayy better song for him
Clearly she's not keen to teach or train Brett to win the competition. She's jus there for onscreen time.

Nothing against the girl, but she just pretended to "teach", not even choosing a song that Brett's voice could endure. Before i started singing in a choir, i took singing lessons from someone who did the exact thing as this girl: karaoke time, with songs completely out your vocal range (like, i'm a contralto, having a vocal range between 1 low do octave and 1 high do octave, needing falsetto for higher notes). That teacher was so near to ruining my voice forever, but i decided to stop, and after one year i started going to this choir. Our Maestro is literally an angel. She did the same as Zach, and in the choir we are from 5 to 18 years old kids.
I found Shakyrah wanting to just show off her singing abilities, but i can say she wasn't great either. I know a lot of 15 years old girls in my choir who would do highly better, and actually teaching something. I got great advices from them.
I feel like Brett should've had his lesson with Zach too. That guys is so nice, i would really like to met him.

This was so unbalanced. Eddy gets a real teacher, sheet music, someone who teaches him *how to sing,* and in a genre closer to what he already plays.
Brett gets a mean-spirited, flighty person whose "teaching" method is 'listen to the song once and then be a singer,' in a genre which does *not* fit his personality (or vocal range) at all.

10:35 Correction: it's called being able to sing SOPRANO. He is a guy and does NOT have a Soprano range. That's like a guy asking you to sing Bass and then saying that you're not able to sing when you're unable to hit low notes. We all have different ranges in how high and low we can sing. If you had chosen a pop song that has a man's part in it, I might have at least considered your ability in teaching. But I still think the classical voice lesson was awesome!
Another correction: He is a guy who would do better if he has lower notes because of his lower range
I can sing soprano as I guy so bestie shut up.
As a native German speaker, I’d just like to say that that guy honestly tackled the ‚ö‘ sound. Sounds good!

Ikr, those literally takes like at least 4 lessons to get them right (unless you're a prodigy, then just 4 minutes will do...lol)
Yeah he was a great teacher.
yeah! I appreciated that it was an actual voice lesson first with zach and eddy, then it just descended into a wild party with syakirah & brett xD
both were entertaining in their own right though
Yess
It makes sense that he focused on technique since I assume eddy already has experience with sight singing. It’s usually a standard part of ear training and sight reading education.
Syakirah was really closed-minded and dismissive of technique and of the true elements that it takes to project a quality tone. Due to this rejection of the basics, it was also clearly heard in her singing voice which was really unfortunate. Singing is not only a talent but a learned skill as well. Being able to "naturally" have it all and just magically know how to sing was incredibly offensive to all of the work that so many singers and performers put in. Someone needs to practice 40 hours a day.
She needs a slice of humble pie. Not everyone has a natural musical ability.
Thank you for saying it out loud, I wouldn't have been brave enough
Healthy singing is also important and to be taught. Which she disregarded. Like when she made Brett go too high out of his range or improperly, making him screech, and saying that was good.
ngl syakirah is kinda mid not trying to be rude

“I feel so bad for him” cmon, Brett’s a 30 year old man and it’s not like this video was super serious, I’m SURE they all had so much fun filming it
@@polina6479I agree with you yeah and she’s also a playing it up for comedy, I guarantee you she doesn’t teach people like that, it’s obviously a fun video not a genuine teaching session. I was enjoying this then saw all the negative comments. The classical elitism is showing hard.
@Matt_Isabird it's not about "classical elitism", I'm sure no-one would have minded a pop song if she taught him properly. I don't think it would have hurt the "comedy" if he at least was given a pop song written for a male voice.
I know it was for comedy, but it's still a pity that Brett didn't get a real lesson, his voice is actually really pleasant. And the way she "taught" could be painful and could damage his vocal chords. He sounds like a bass-baritone to me, even letting him sing the high part an octave or two lower would have been so much better.
@Shirafune161 I'm fully on board with that, and i completely agree, but the whole "this vid is unwatchable" and "she's absolutely horrible to brett" comments just made me sigh a little bit.

Zach was absolutely right to start with the basics!!! As an English speaking choir singer though, giving him a German song was cruel and unusual, especially with only 10 minutes to practice. Eddy did very well given the time limit I think. I would really love to see them have a whole hour. (honestly I wasn't the biggest fan of Syakirah, I love singing pop style but it felt like she was completely ignoring the basics of singing and being kinda rude to Zach. Maybe thats just her personality idk.)
Trust me, everyone hates Syakirah, or yk, her way of teaching Brett how to sing
Apart from being rude and entitled, she wasn't funny either, considering that her role was to be funny or one can't explain her lack of professionalism. So, dismissing her actions as an attempt of comedy is more reasonable but nonetheless annoying. She shouted throughout the video and spoke constantly and put herself before the camera. True! I would love to see Zach more on their videos
At first I thought it was unfair for Eddy to have to sing a song in a new language, but at least he was given something with notes within his range. I felt bad for Brett's vocal health; his song was even out of his falsetto range, which was just setting him up for failure.
I'd be interested to see them both do another session with vocal coaches who will take them through the steps to singing resonantly and healthily. Zach certainly gave it a go, but 10 minutes was not really enough time to go into the specifics when they're also trying to get their head around unfamiliar lyrics and notes. I'd be keen for a 30 minute or even 60 minute crash course in singing! The vocal mechanism is just like any other muscle; it needs training in order to improve control and technique - and just like with any instrument, one needs to p r a c t i c e.

I know that this has been in a lot of comments already, but can you specify the things she did- well, terrible? (Just if you want to actually :‘)
@@locixx
Song out of Brett's range: you can hear the tension in his voice, plus it can ruin his voice forever
Not teaching basics: fundamentals are, well, fundamentals, you cant play the violin without a good posture, right? Like that (i think)
Could have been more things, but just compare her "lesson" to Zach's lesson, Zach's is by many means my to-go one
Plus she doesnt accept people have different voice ranges,
OMG I came here to say the same thing. She's definitely the worst collab - like by far - that I've seen in any TwoSet video. Their non-musician collabs (like the "tone deaf friend" in the latest one) are so much better.
@@locixx She didn't actually, you know, teach.

@@ada.3880 ok to clarify there isn’t a specific video where they talk about it, it’s a combination of various things they’ve said before
For example on their interview with the violin channel some years ago when asked what people don’t know about him, Brett’s answer was that he likes to party. Also on their video on MBTI, they mentioned their own personality types and Brett is actually an extrovert while Eddy is an introvert. I’m sure there are more things here and there, but these are the two that I can think of right now
Brett’s accent normally: Slight
Brett’s accent while singing pop music: “you call that a knife, this is a knife”
Seriously, the kid has never been so Australian as he is in this video.

Please give Brett a piece/song that actually suits his voice next time ! (and have Eddy do the choreography, that shit's hilarious)

Eddy & Zach: Oh, the harmony! The delicate blending of notes.
Brett & Sykirah: I DIDN'T ASK FOR A FREE RIDE (another series of confused Brett)
And brett preaching high pitched female voice lol
I actually felt slightly bad for Brett for a second, I think he didn't get a chance to learn step by step like Eddy did. I think Zach should teach Brett how he taught Eddy. I also think it's more fair to be honest.
I want to like Syakirah... but she's extroverted to the point of rudeness. When she picks on them for not being able to sing it just seems needlessly aggressive and condescending. The other guy was a better teacher by far. Then again, she's trying to make it entertaining for TH-cam 🤷🏼♀️
But you can be extroverted and entertaining without being obnoxious. Seems that nowadays people don't understand that.
What she did was use the TwoSet-platform to promote herself, cause she could never ever get a channel to reach near their size.
Person with degree in vocal music here: that woman is NO voice teacher. You could do damage to your voice with what she's telling Brett. Zach is pretty good.
according to her instagram she addressed this video, she does teach. i don't think she was seriously trying to teach him too much here but mores o to have a good time for the sake of the video, although i do agree she isn't the best teacher here.
I would agree although I think she took a less serious and more silly approach to the video then the other vocalist Zach did, I don’t think she would really teach real students this way
She's a student at rncm and does teach. This is just for comedy and because Brett doesn't listen to pop. This isn't anything to take seriously.
@@nataliesvt I’m going to be honest, if this was MY JOB and I was asked by my friends to do a video to teach me singing, I’m going to be a professional. This is my livelihood and you never know who is watching. Someone may be looking for a vocal coach in Australia. Think of the impression that makes.
I'm so sorry but her laugh, her voice (while talking and singing), her screams, her chaotic energy... I was cringing throughout the video. I tried to have fun but nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

Ikr! She's amazing!
I thought she was obnoxious but oke you do you.
I wish that Brett and Eddy could have another singling lesson or do a “we learn to sing in 1 hour” type video but have Zach as their teacher. He started with fundamentals and helped Eddy when he went wrong and showed him how to improve.
Brett was just thrown in the middle of the ocean and told to sing far too high for his vocal range. He got no help and that “It’s called being able to sing” was really irritating.
Like imagine if you were wanting to learn the violin and you mess up (because you’re a beginner so of course you’re going to mess up) and your teacher just says “well you should already be able to play”. Like wth no.
Syakirah just seems like someone you don't want to be around tbh.
Seems like that kind of person who wants all the spotlight all the time and calls it being ''extroverted'' lol
Exactly my thoughts.
I got major narc vibes from her
Her attitude turned me off immediately. I avoid people like that.
YES. oh my god. i avoid people like her whenever i meet them. they’re so obnoxious and always want to show off/be in the spotlight and are just so annoying.

As much as Syakirah is fun and entertaining, I would also love if Brett and Eddy could do a "we learn to sing in an hour" like they do with other instruments. As someone who doesn't know much about singing, the information Zach gave was genuinely fascinating and I would love to hear more.
i genuinely wanna hear brett sing
As someone who's been in a choir for the last 7 years, zach's teaching was way better and usefull to actually learn how to sing. I wouldn't even call what Syakirah did teaching, she was only laughing and not taking this seriously. As an introvert, this is legit painfull to watch...
@@adeleauclair9080 Yes, I agree with you, but I'd love to see them both (brett and eddy) trying to hit higher notes, like Zach would teach them ofc because she wasn't really teaching anything. @@adeleauclair9080 what are you talking about, even as an extrovert that would be painful to watch...
@@mmymmy315 well how would i know?
Zach's lecture was so on point tho. I spent at least 5 years on singing studies to support my role in choir/soloist at church and that's what exactly my teachers would tell me over and over during warm up. That diaphragm breathing, how you make the sound echoes in your head as if it's an empty column, and open your mouth until three fingers could get in are really helpful. Specially if you're singing mass/ecclesiastical songs such as Miserere, Ave Maria, Kyrie, etc.
Unfortunately, my teachers really went hard on training. I know it's for the best but having a teacher like Zach would make my passion in singing goes 📈📈
Been doing singing lessons for 10+ years now and I think I’ve managed to summarize the basics:
- the technique we use to sing is the same technique we use to laugh (breathing w/ the diaphragm)
- the technique we use to sing is the same technique we use to yawn (operatic throat openness)
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

Eddy did a good job learning with how little time he had! So good!
I was also so impressed by Brett's voice. It was beautiful. It had a rich and clear tambor.
I really hope they revisit this idea with a longer lesson and encouraging, supportive, and knowledgeable instructors who start by teaching fundamentals.
As a vocalist, I'd be so thrilled to hear them sing again, and for Brett especially to have another go at it.
My best friend went to school with Syakira and my ex had her as a vocal teacher. After three months of weekly lessons, she wanted to quit because she wasn't getting taught what's needed... Now that I see who this Syakirah person is, I totally understand why! Lol
Is she a legit teacher? Surely doesn't act like one. Teaching is a hard job, I think unserious people like her are unsuited for it. Of course I can't judge with just one video but if someone is a teacher, they should have some respect for the act of teaching which was non-existent in this video. She wasn't funny either, so this video falls flat. I'm a teacher trainee and I cringe when I see people like her.
i'm still amazed at how eddy's singing didn't get distracted when he sang with zach, because eddy sang the lower part and zach is the higher part. many ppl are easily distracted when singing in 'harmonies' but he nailed it👏
I know. I can only ever sing the melody.
I think ear training helps a lot with that.
Well, he plays duos, trios, quartets, at orchestras so...
@@gustavoflorio5383 that's true but it's still kinda easier (not really) bc you have can choose the note right away and the instrument has "physical appereance" while voice is kinda wavy if you're not fully confidence with the note ur taking and ended up 'accidently' switching to the other's note
Yeah, I was super surprised too but then remembered he had perfect pitch so maybe that helped?
Brett didn't even get to learn to sing properly. They should definitely have a "learn to sing in an hour" (properly) cause they both have potential in their voices
Man, Brett is adorable. I love his approach to a new thing and his open-mindedness. And confidence. I think has a pleasant voice when singing in his "natural" range, but maybe Lady Gaga & Ariana is a bit too high for him? Especially as a beginner without any fundamentals or warm ups, and he doesn't even listen to pop so it must've felt completely new. Hell, even for me parts of that song are a bit high and I'm a woman (in the tenor range of choir but still) and I listen to pop and have been singing both in choirs and casually for years, some pop and some not. (I'm no expert though as I'm not even classically trained, it's just experience and stuff I read up on myself). Anyway, Brett is cute.
'Ew, disgusting'
'Your breathing is very wrong'
Gets called Brett
Not even 30 seconds in and Eddy has been incinerated.
I was wondering why no one else has noticed that she called Eddy “brett” 😭
