“Have a Happy New Year!” 🙏🥂🎉 Our New Year doesn’t started until February 10, it will be the year of the “Dragon.” Mom was born on the year of the “Dragon.” A very good sign. She is no longer with us. She passed away this Spring. (She was 94 but had an adventurous life in America.) When we were growing up we used to call her “Dragon Lady.” with a big stick. 🫣 I was born in the year of the Rabbits but not just your regular rabbit but a “Playboy Rabbit.”😱 Take Care, wishing you a blessed “2024.”
I can just imagine some teacher walking around the classrooms and just hears this playing inside and wondering how these people got into Curtis not knowing they are doing a challenge haha
Alexandra, thanks for allowing Ray to make a bit of a fool of you; it was worthwhile because I had never heard of you and I just went to hear your real recordings. I just listened to your rendition of Bach's second violin concerto at age 13 in Poland and can only recommend that other viewers do the same. For sure I will be following your channel from now.
I’m really growing to love your channel, and as an adult violinist learning for a few years and not many friends at all that like classical, its like a little social party for me to watch you do these videos. brings me so much joy! thanks Ray and everyone for watching and subscribing :D
Tis basically a lingling challenge XDD; Great job to everyone involved, you guys were really amazing and made a valiant effort to deal with the handicap!
That’s a fun game for a party with musicians. I‘m going to Austria for a music camp vacation and keep this sightreading challenge in mind… Great video with amazing contestants.
Amazing! I am reminded of a story I heard about Itzhak Perlman. At the start of a concert, one of Perlman's violin strings broke. The concertmaster offered to trade instruments; Perlman declined. He played the whole piece while revising everything he had practiced on the spot! and in front of an audience. Unbelievable.
The sad thing is that Ray playing Zigeunerweisen with only 3rd and 4th finger still sounded much better than me trying to play it with all my fingers 😅
It is so incredible to watch this and seeing what they can do with FINGERS BANNED. People can't even do this with all fingers and all the time in the world
such fun you guys.... and well done. well worse than losing a finger is having no arm! currently in plaster following surgery after a serious fracture to my wrist... hoping i'll be able to continue learning to play my violin in a few weeks time!
I was never any good at sight reading. Excellent everywhere else, but never sight reading. I suppose that speaks to my need to plan everything out in advance. Lol
I just found Ray's channel and I'm definitely loving the content! Also, I don’t know who the editor is (if it's Ray or not) but they're doing amazing work, too.
I used to make a challenge at the positions, in ma case frets, not positions. U play the piece without touching any note before the determinated fret. So, for instance: if the number is 5 u can use from 5 fret ahead and cant touch 4, 3, 2,1 and 0, this means the end of open string! Not so hard like loose a finger, but its very very very didatical to FORCE u to thing outside fingering even u dont have absolute pitch. And it can be fun AF!!! Try it!!!
I predict that she will ave long career ahead, and will be cherished all, audience, orchestra and conductors. She is no levelheaded , nice and normal, but what an sound. It feels like music is just pouring out of her like natural fountain, not from the instrument
Did you know that Professor Albrecht said that Beethoven wasn't completely deaf at the premiere of his 9th symphony and could hear, albeit more and more faintly, for more than two years afterwards?
Thanks for watching! !🎵Join Tonic tonicmusic.app/join-in so you can practice in front of people and be ready for any sort of situation
♥️♥️♥️
Could you do a challenge of playing piano music with a violin?
Like Rachmaninoff s Preludes or Chopin s Etudes?

Alex is the absolute best musician and person! Great sportsmanship from both her and Lingyu!

Ray was actually sad that he won, he didn't want to be rude to the guests
You know me 😄
As he should 😂
Such a brain teasing exercise! Kudos to you all for performing and more kudos to your editor-san for revealing the real winner!
Tis basically a lingling challenge XDD; Great job to everyone involved, you guys were really amazing and made a valiant effort to deal with the handicap!
aye, one for twoset to add to their challenge list...
That’s a fun game for a party with musicians. I‘m going to Austria for a music camp vacation and keep this sightreading challenge in mind… Great video with amazing contestants.
I like how at the end they started to sound close to my playing if I play with all fingers and something I have already practiced :D
Subscribed to Alexandra and Lingyu. Talents we'll hear from.

Imagine the teachers walking by and overhearing this without knowing it's a challenge 💀
Thank you for introducing these awesome musicians to us! Love this type of challenges❤

Can't wait to lose my fingers.
I laughed so hard with all the improvised fingerings... The 1 4 trill was the icing on the cake for me though xD
good to know even top music students sometimes miss accidentals 😭
Right thumb would’ve been so hard to play without, imagine holding anything without your thumb
actually that would have been a genius move
Ray came up with a great exercise ❤❤
It's always fun watching your videos. I love your charisma 💖
I was never any good at sight reading. Excellent everywhere else, but never sight reading. I suppose that speaks to my need to plan everything out in advance. Lol
Such a fun video. Great job, everyone ... I couldn't play those pieces with all my fingers & weeks of practice lol.
These people play better with two less left fingers than me playing with all fingers :(
All the best Ray. love ur playing !
Fun to watch and listen. All were winners.
You all put a smile on my face...throughout!
This sight reading is incredible!
Can’t wait to watch it!!!!!!

as a double bassist i wouldnt mind losing my third finger 😂😂
The level of skill necessary to do any of these challenges is beyond 99.8% of us. 👏👏👏
When ppl with less fingers still play better than you...
Speak for yourself
@@maggoteater2290 I mean in the first round they all played well especially the other two who were sight reading
I need more this series 🤣
Ray being the evil violin teacher and telling Alex to keep going and not stop 😂
this is basically the Ling Ling Workout x Sight Reading
I can't imagine how they do even read the notes so quickly, not to speak of playing!
❤ you all!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
This is really eyes opening.
That punch-thing with the crosses are so awesome haha
Omg amazing
Need this on tonic
I thknk this challenge is actually good to for getting better because it forces you to think about alternativ fingering and mskes you more flexibel

Is it just me or is just realized that when Ray sightreading, he doesn’t blink… not only on this channel
Già strabello questo format
If Rey's violin could talk....it would probably say it has never been played by a child before (the way it sounded)....😅
Lingyu is just so madly talented, i can't wait to hear what he sounds like in 10 years from now.might he even become the new Ray Chen???
Ray blushing when making a mistake ♥
Surprised no one said thumb on right hand
The one in my mind was chosen for Ray
Thank you! Funny! :-)
Ling Ling challenge: Curtis edition
Evil, fun and educational!
I will never EVER lose my fingers, but the challenge is interesting.
good show
I learned something from this video: You need all of your fingers to play the violin efficiently
I predict that she will ave long career ahead, and will be cherished all, audience, orchestra and conductors. She is no levelheaded , nice and normal, but what an sound. It feels like music is just pouring out of her like natural fountain, not from the instrument
I can't believe no one banned the thumb on the right hand...
I was just thinking that haha
And this is why I gave up the violin for singing 😂
Taking them to dinner, great move.
love the laugh at the end on "HOW DO YOU FEEL" "DEPRESSED" and everyone "HAHAHA" XD
Alexandra's tone is so amazing. I'd love to know what violin she is playing (yes yes I know it's not all the violin!)
Who edits your videos is so funny 🤣🤣🤣 loooove it ❤
😂😂😂 you guys all sound amazing even loosing so many fingers
ooh recount
omg i cant wait
Good old lingling challenge :)
5:50 proceeds to say thumb on the right hand
Lingyu is so good
Bravo for the pushing through the pain and suffering XD
Alexandra is so adorable
Am at the point where am left to chose between my passion and career 🤦🤦
What do I practice as a high beginner violinist???
Finally I can say i sound like Ray Chen when I play 😂
can't wait!
Lost my fingers watching ray play🤦
Django Reinhardt: "Stephane give me the fiddle" 😅
Do Stéphane Grappelli even with all of your fingers.
good video
bonus round: choose which thumb to lose 😈
what's the name of the song at the very end of the video? 17:11
were is this school wanna go
I feel like no right hand pinky and pointer would be extremely hard
Ray's Zegeunerweisen sounds like my normal playing😢🥲
I clicked for Alexandra.
She picked for her 2nd finger but she used it and didn't use her 3rd in last challange.
This is cruel punishment for any violinist- Barber is IMPOSSIBLE without 3rd finger
Did you know that Professor Albrecht said that Beethoven wasn't completely deaf at the premiere of his 9th symphony and could hear, albeit more and more faintly, for more than two years afterwards?
And what if they would have chosen thumb of right hand? Literally can't hold the bow
❤❤
Anyone know where she got her shoes and jacket?
Uugh barber 3rd Mvt the WORST FOR THIS
That wasn’t sight reading. Standard repertoire.
They need to use a “Sight Reading Factory” which creates totally new excerpts.
Apparently there are rooms in Curtis that look like the inside of a wealthy someone's home.
😅 itbis a wealthy house. Very wealthy
