They don't do sweeps "weeks in advance". It only makes sense to do a sweep that early if you can station people on site for weeks. It's just pointless. They do a site survey weeks or even months in advance, to get information to formulate a security plan (mapping lines of sight, entry points, etc). Then a day or two ahead of time, they do a thorough sweep, and keep the site secure until the event.

It's obvious to me that Thomas Crooks was no "dummy" he made detailed plans and scoped out the Butler County Fairgrounds multiple times before choosing where and how to do what he did.. Crooks had purchased bomb making materials and had a detonator for setting off fireworks on the roof with a "burner" phone? Was he receiving instructions from some one else on the water tower maybe?
Hazardous materials were delivered to his parents home in Bethel Park PA? He had a drone, and a backpack a bullet-proof vest with plates? And a get-away vehicle a white Chevy camper van? With more explosives inside 10 miles away from the Fairgrounds?
