      What about those who live in these homes though? Just to satiate other people’s curiosities, they will get inconvenienced at night. Perhaps the reason why we get to see some of them is because they or their neighbors are away during the day. It doesn’t seem thoughtful.

    The architect did not raise sustainability as a motivation for small spaces specifically, but this is what interests me most when watch NTS videos. Therefore, the use of Okume wood from West Africa, which not only travels thousands of kilometers to Paris, but is also considered vulnerable by IUCN, stands out negatively. The apartment is beautiful, but I am sure it would be equally nice with a more sustainable European hardwood.

      There’s no such thing as sustainability. Even so-called sustainable materials have gone thru different processes which damage the environment in one way or the other..
      You really think a simple use of local European wood in a tiny apartment will save the world? 😅
      Sustainability is just branding/marketing like labeling foods as Organic. It’s just less evil. But still evil.. 😂

    • @Coromi1
      @Coromi1 ปีที่แล้ว +96

      I disagree. European wood looks different - this one is very nice. The furniture is veneered, so little Okume wood needs to be used. It is probably shipped. And it can last long. The impact on the environment is tiny in comparison to buying liquified fracking gas from the US instead of buying gas from Russia. Or compared to any wars, or just armament. We should put our focus on the things that really matter, not on some veneer in a tiny appartment or slices of sausage on a workers sandwich.

    I really love this apartment. So spacious and light. Lots of storage. The fact that this building was redesigned for today’s living appeals to me. In Australia too many old homes apartments are being demolished. Maybe governments around the world should offer incentives for home buyers / owners to engage an architect to redesign existing properties if they are structurally sound. That is just my thinking alone. Demolishing buildings is such a waste of resources.

    Lovely apartment. Here in Copenhagen, that would be considered at least a standard sizes apartment. Also here, the sqm count of apartments always include the balcony, part of the common areas, such as the stairway and it's measured to the outside of the walls (or middle it's a wall between apartments). So when an apartment is listed as 40 sqm here, the actual floor space is more likely around 30 sqm.

    Love the design and materials used. Converting one of the terraces into a bedroom was a smart choice. No real need for two terraces. Because of the narrowness in the bedroom I'm not sure that anything could be done about this, but I've never liked when one has to crawl in and out of bed rather than stand up. Especially awkward if there are two of you. But again, not sure that anything could've been done to address it as the space was quite narrow.

    What is the floor surface? Is it concrete with a painted finish? I notice that the level of the tiles in the ensuite bathroom somehow aligns perfectly with the floor surface (i.e. not raised) - how was that achieved? (the apartment looks great btw)

    Something remarkable she points out is how it's preferable to renew the interiors while keeping the outside heritage architecture. Even at my city (an ocean apart), people will destroy old buildings and build new apartment complexes. It's some sort of trend that needs to stop or no architectural heritage will remain untouched

    That window above the sink would bother me a lot, you can literally see the bed on the other side. You can decorate the shelves, but if the shelves are full, don't they block the light coming from the bedroom window?

    Makes no sense to separate the bathroom from the toilet but then you have a window looking into the bedroom from the kitchen. That is a big no-no for me for privacy reasons. But then again, if that is what the client wanted, who are we to complain. Also there is no division between the shower and the closet in the bedroom which is made of expensive West African wood, which might or might not be moisture tolerant. I feel like at least an air vent should've been installed above the bathtub. Other than that, it's a pretty apartment 🙂

    • @captainsayang
      @captainsayang ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@conniebruckner8190 it is quite common in france. imagine the amount of germs at the doorknob after doing whatever you are supposed to do in the toilet. but i must say over the years, this is slowly changing though (having small sink in the toilet).

    It's very nice, although the bathroom/toilet does not appeal to me. Don't get me wrong it looks nice, even cozy I just personally don't like the idea of having to open a door to get to the sink from the toilet.
    The colors, amount of storage, flow to the rooms (aside from the above), and little design flares are all very nice and soothing to my taste.
