Using a sponge on your head is going to create semi freeform dreads, just wash your hair and put oil in it once a week (make sure your rinse the oil out with cold water). Use a silk pillowcase or silk bonnet to sleep with. If you wake up with flat hair on certain sides, use 1/3 of aloe Vera mixed with 2/3 of water on your hair (don’t wet it completely just dampen it with 2-4 sprays). Anytime your hair is wet make sure you dry it completely using a blow dryer, you don’t need a towel. I’m doing this to my hair currently and my hair is feeling healthy with the locs forming nicely.
