How to Feed Alfalfa Cubes to Horses

- Alfalfa cubes are great for helping a horse gain or maintain weight. They're good for geriatric horses, or those with bad teeth as the soft mash is easy to chew and swallow. It can be a great supplement for hay when there's a shortage of bales.
Thank you for the advice ! The shop I bought my cubes tonight told me to just simply spray them with water before feeding. I gave about 10 cubes each horses within 2h (looking quite dry) tonight and I watch them making much saliva and chewing them hard...I am glad they survive , h ah a, and I will not do that mistake again ! If only big infos on how to feed was written on the bag itself !!
Great video! I just bought some cubes to help my rescue horse gain weight and I actually gave him one dry and you're right it is very scary he was stomping and went to drink water and he got calm again! Good thing I found this video! Thanks!!!!
I put the rice bran meal with a 1 pound of sweet feed or grain on top. Soak it in a little water and it soaks into the cubes. I have a senior rescue that was a 2 when I got him and he has improved so much. Also you can sneak a handful of beet pulp in the bottom of the bucket
I give them as treats. I have a container I keep them in and whenever we're hanging out in the barn, we break them apart using a small paint scraper-type tool. Can get them down into very small squares, perfect treat size.
I don't recommend soaking over night cause bacteria will start it only takes 15 to 20 min to soak in then feed
we feed Hay-rite cubes and never have ever soaked them or had any problem ours are soft cubes maybe its the brand of cubes might consider trying Hay-rite brand just a suggestion
How much do you give if your replacing your free choice hay? i know real hay is best but were at a point where there is a hay shortage so i would like to cut my horses hay in half so it lasts longer
Is the alfalfa cubes better then the alfalfa pellets?
Did he gain weight
How much & how often did you feed him?
