easiest way to put weight on horses and cattle is feed them grain. working horses should be fed grain any where from 20% to 40% of their diet depending on how hard they're working example a 2000 lbs. draft horse thats working hard can eat about 15 to 20 lbs of grain a day

My husband (Not a "Horse" Person) feeds the horses and often asks me many of these questions; having horses for many years it is easy to forget the basic "why" when to me it is "well just because" "Its the way I was taught" OR "I have always done it this way thats why" NOT FAIR for Hubby who is trying to learn & understand.

Ivy Popejoy increase some feed at first and if that don’t work you can check with vet it will save you lots of money to begin with

Check their teeth for wolf tooth. Told my neighbor and he didnt listen 3 months later his horse had to be put down.
