Not true at all, the Assassins play a big role in the game. For example, Edward's development is him shifting from being pirate and becoming a full blown Assassin. He realized that freedom under being pirate is illusionary. B

one thing I always liked doing with assassination missions that don't require a special assassination method as an optional objective is using the Berserk Darts and nailing the target with one, nothing's more satisfying than watching the man you gotta kill go absolutely batshit and get killed by his own minions.
The best part is the animas can only reply memory’s not modify them so it’s canonical. It’s what really happened Edward didn’t kill them but “accidents” happen especially is those tough jungle conditions anyone could just do happen into gator infested waters and that one guy who try’s to shoot said gator could “just so happen” to slip and fall into said waters with said gator just before he takes his shot with no witnesses who to say.
You forgot to talk about one thing. When entering a ship, you can climb up the sails of your own and swing on to the other ship using a rope on the ship mast to feel like Jack Sparrow, then hang people on the enemy mast for that extra spicy Capt. Kenway introduction :=)
you can also jump in the water and wait for a ship to float past then climb up and kill the entire crew then take the whole ship without having to engage in naval combat, so you can build an entire fleet of man o wars without even buying a mortar

Black Flag was the game too good to be an Assassin's Creed game. Even almost 10 years later, it's still the most replayable of all the games. The boat and sea mechanics and gameplay are still the best ever despite being 2 generations and a decade old. The story, while held down by the Creed storyline, is a wonderful dive into the insane highs and lows of the Golden age of pirating. Even tho the Creed stuff is the worst part of the game, it does make Edward the most complex and engaging protagonist of the series. Connor and Ezio are cool, but Edward is a real piece of shit at the start. He never magically becomes this good guy either. He learns from the many deaths his selfishness causes. He only fully accepts the Creed at the end of the game when you've gone on an entire journey.

It is impressive just how shit Ubisoft have become. At the time of posting this I'm currently trying to get through AC Valhalla and my god is this game crap. Nothing but a chore to get through. And that can be said for a lot of their games these days.
100%. Their games are sheer ass water nowadays. Seeing the Ubisoft logo used to ensure a certified banger of a game. Now that Ubisoft logo is synonymous with half assed, soulless, bloated open world games that never lives up to the potent of the idea itself.
It's especially funny when it comes to Skull and Bones. Somehow, they managed to do a game about pirates that is not only far worse than a 10-years old game but the latter was made by themselves. In other words, they did worse than their 10 years ago selves. To quote the Joker: "It'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic."
i actually didn't like the tailing missions in black flag the most, and they also weren't that great in AC3 either, it was the same engine and the exact same in that regard which was annoying and you couldn't really hear or concentrate on the story during these events because you had to constantly worry about not being too close or to far away or not hiding in the right spot or some weird glitch would fuck up the whole mission making it so you have to start over again and again to the point where you suddenly don't give a shit about the story and just want it to be over with already. but i agree with most of everything else you had to say on this game.
i think the stealth needs to be more along the lines as real stealth, where darkness actually matters, they almost had this in AC unity but nothing on the level of Splinter Cell, damn would that be a great assassins creed game using real stealth. sadly, this will never become a reality, so instead we have to conform to the stupid line of sight lazy stealth approach and it matters not if you are walking on glass or walking too quickly or if darkness has any real effect on the game.

This game just has those occasional moments that makes it never get old. Like during my latest playthrough now I had a rogue wave hit my ship from the side as I was boarding a ship in a storm. Seeing the ships get thrown about by the wave was low-key terrifying.
Every time I attempt to go back and play an older AC game, I always get stopped at the chase missions, trying to parkour across the roof only for my character to swan dive off of a cliff the complete opposite direction of where I was trying to go
Replaying the game I found the simplest way to end them is preemting the pursuer. They tend to follow a set path so if you find a sweet spot and get ahead you can camp them pretty easily. That being said the worst part is how slow Edward is, even when you press R2, not to mention the movement detection andyou end up running into walls at the slightest touch.

There aren't AS MANY of those moments in Black Flag, but I have had times where you do ring-around-the-rosie with a man-o-war you thought you were going to take down immediately, then wade through people only to climb up the mast for that stupid flag objective and have Edward yeet himself off the top right into a deck-pancake instead of doing an ACTUAL swan-dive off the mast into the water... Leading to a reset of the whole encounter and 10 minutes of your life gone :|
surprisingly the most optimal strategy is to dart the officers. they will break defence and parry everything. they kill captains and only dies if a brute gets them right after a parry
Fun fact: if you time it correctly, you can grab hold of an enemy ship if you're in the water and climb up onto it. You can then kill all the crew, jump off back to your ship, and begin attwcking the empty ship. You will instantly win the combat because there is no one alive to fight you.
Fun fact : when you beat all legendary ships you get a charge ability on your ship while aiming chain shots and pressing W you gain massive strength while ramming

"If you manage to fight through all the Legendaries, apart from the large monetary rewards (don't forget to loot the packages for the money); finishing all four battles will also give the Jackdaw the additional move of a speed ram, where aiming forward and pressing X (PS) and A (Xbox) will allow the Jackdaw to dash for a moment for a raw with increased power."
I agree with you I especially love the legendary enemy ships that are f*cking terrifying. You can also board ships without damaging them. I once managed to swim and climb into the enemy ship killing everyone and leaving the ship intact.
Black Flag came out at the time where pretentious "critics" repeated the phrase "im playing a game not watching a movie," ignoring that cutscenes can be skipped, gameplay cannot.

I'm someone with Meglophobia and Thalassophobia and I can't tell you how much I DREADED doing the deep sea dives and harpooning, it basically turned in to a horror game for me. Seeing that giant squid take down that whale was haunting (Easter egg).
@@EdwardWare06 It's the Antocha Wreck deep dive and I think it has to be a return trip to the place, you know when there's a tentacle poking out of the ships cabin doorway, it'll leave as you approach and then you look to the porthole inside to the right.

That’s not true, I mean you have to get right on the edge of being detected and Getting off the driver seat of your ship but once you do that, you can swim right up to them and pick them off. Now it is a long swim and there is a chance you’ll die from their cannons but I made it and took out two legendary ships this way.
I remember my first run-in with a Legendary Ship. Was massively underleveled, was checking out the icon on the map, saw the masts on the horizon in the middle of nowhere and took a look. Level 60…. So I did what any sane gamer would do, which is a trick phrase because there are no sane gamers. I crept closer to check it’s aggro range. Got slapped with a menacing cutscene and a rapetrain of a ship bearing down on me at full speed. I still think it’s no coincidence that the most terrifying and arguably the most dangerous of these ships is located in the lowest difficulty quarter of the map. What followed was a desperate attempt to skedaddle that climaxed in me pulling off a fishtail manoeuvre on a 17th century wooden ship to avoid a ramming run to escape with a sliver of hp… It was one sided, white knuckle and epic.

Im so glad to find someone who sees Black Flag the way I always saw it. The game is so damned fun that i played more than a hundred hours of it and put it down without ever finishing the story. I was having so much fun plundering that I forgot to beat the game.
Yeah, one thing that annoyed me about AC IV: Black Flag. Even though it's in my Top 3 games in the series.. Is that they seemed to take 3 steps forward with the combat in Assassin's Creed III but then about 4 (or 5) steps back with AC IV: Black Flag. They neutered the simultaneous counters, drastically. You get them, maybe once in a blue moon (if that) and somehow, the combat itself didn't feel quite as refined or polished, mechanically. Even though Edward was skilled enough to warrant having the mechanics than Connor had. I did enjoy getting into fist-fights with the guys you got a cut-scene with, when you went to unlock a bar.
Right out of the gate we have double tool kills all over the place. This shows me you understand the full list of features in the combat and this is going to be a pretty good video In AC3 you can eventually carry two double barreled pistols for a total of four shots, but you have to beat 80% of the game before you unlock the holster that allows for this. Liberation's quad pepperbox is much more easily obtainable and only has to reload once, so there is precedent for the same ammo capacity across the Kenway saga (except Rogue got kind of shafted in this regard) Without HUD, Black Flag's single sword attacks are among the most difficult to react to. It's the massive red counter icons that make defense trivial. Because the Kenway games are nigh unplayable in improv without an SSI, there's not much you can do about this as a player Okay, I actually didn't know you could cause Assassins' deaths indirectly without getting desynced. That's funny as hell Every Kenway protagonist can do every type of assassination with any weapon, even fists (except sometimes doubles). In AC3 classic you have to manually switch between hidden blades and primary weapons to get this to work, but AC3R automatically changes it based on profile like the other games. Try drawing dual swords and doing a walking lateral double assassination, for example (approach two targets from the side). That's one of my favorites in Black Flag. There are some great animation overviews that show all the ways you can murder people in these games, and boy are there a lot of options

Ac rogue remastered had the ship combat a little better. Everything from the rear fire weapon and how your ship changes with upgrades, to the blizzards and improved enemy aggro. Also, you can use a grenade launcher to wipe them out. It's just a shame the game was short
Funnily enough ac rogue was a part of ac 4 just a different place. It was also the first ac game that I played before finding out the black flag. I could say rogue definitely improved the ship battle and also the goods that you can get from raiding ships
I very much feel the same way. It also felt like Shay's actions actually had weight and he was a genuine threat, he had presence with that signature coat and rifle slung over the shoulder. Dude was fucking lethal and the Morrigan was seeeeeexxxxxyy compared to the jackdaw (my opinion)

As far as I'm concerned, I FULLY 100% agree! Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are *NOT* Assassin's Creed games. And out of those 3, I've only played Odyssey (Platinumed it and all the DLC) but I can definitely and safely say it's not an Assassin's Creed game. The worst thing they ever did with the franchise, was trying to turn it into "The Witcher's Creed". It just doesn't work and takes away the identity of what the Assassin's Creed games are. It lost its identity, which is ironic because there was a mobile Assassin's Creed game called "Assassin's Creed Identity". But I'm pleased that there are others who are (mainly) men of culture and can truly appreciate how great AC IV: Black Flag really is. It's in my Top 3 games in the series; my 2nd favorite, behind AC III and before AC (w/ Altair). The game FULLY DESERVES a Remake/Remaster.. With the hardware we have now, they could turn literally turn Blackbeard's CGI intro into actual gameplay (Lighting, movement, shadows, shading. etc.) And I hope one day, they do.
I like to describe AC black flag’s combat system as, “Simple yet effective and satisfying” and the rest the game aside from that is like a chef’s kiss. Although, when I was playing through black flag and rogue, there were several times when I killed a guy on ships after boarding and they turned into a big spagetti mess floating in the air.

It took me way too long to find out you could use the guns and Rope Darts to commence a double kill animation, but once I did, fighting guards was more satisfying than ever before.
If its the last enemy and there are like two takedown animations per weapon type. And even if it had as many killing animations as the old games it would still not be worth it because it takes an average of 5 minutes to kill 10 basic level enemy’s that are on your level. While on the other hand it takes like 5 seconds to solo an entire army in blackflag.
@@rayortiz3060 its not even that its the same animations, its that there are so little. Unity ac3 and brotherhood had dozens of animations for literally everything. Where not only are the killing animations in odyssey more rare then the ones in Skyrim, there are also like 2.

Ah yes i remember my quest for the legendary ships. I set sail from Nassau with a pint of orange juice and a plate from Long John Silvers. I first came across the HMS Prince and my excitement faded into misery as it vaulted 100 mortar shots back to back at my measly hull until the screams of my crew faded into....silence. along with the damn fog that quite literally blinds you. But i used one, forgotten method. Chain shot/Ram and eventually...the Prince sank. La Dama Negra was the second. My orange juice was half full and i had 3 peices of fish left, so rations were getting low. As i quickly found out this ship not only fires mortars every 5 seconds, it also removes the red warning symbol. So i was playing a game of hide and seek for keeps for about 3 hours until i realized. The ship is slow. Like, more slow than usual. So i flanked it and fired a chain shot right up booty and at last i saw it take damage, because apparently you cant shoot it from the sides its impenetrable. After another hour of chain shot/ram this ship finally fell. Next was HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign. My orange juice was gone and the fish had depleted by this time. Not only is it a shiver me timbers gank fest in this fight but they will lure you between the two of them shred you from both ships broadside cannons. These murderous For Honor veterans took me 3 days to finally get. Also once you sink one, the other goes absolutely senile, sets itself on fire, and rams you. Might not sound bad, but boy does it hurt. Finally, the big one, El Impuloto. Took me a solid 4 days to realize the ram on this ship was instantly kill you. To say this ship is hard is an understatement i would rather fight two tigers in a bathroom with a lit candle than ever do this again. This ship has zero budget cuts. It will end your breathing privilege every single time. Unless you chain shot it, ram it, and then mortar it. In that order. Repeatedly. For 2 hours. And eventually, you will be crowned big papa sailor. In all my years of gaming the legendary ships are the only thing i will NEVER do again.

To me I feel it would have been better off being its own game rather than the Assassin's Creed name put on it. Because to me it just is not an Assassin Creed game.

I suffered through odyssey, finished it and never want to play it again. I love grindy games, jrpgs are some of my favorite games, but the grind in odyssey was frustrating. Especially because they took the WORST rpg mechanic and jammed them into the game, leveled items, and they make it so you can't have your items leveled go your character unless you BUY IN-GAME RESOURCES WITH REAL MONEY IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME, because grinding for materials levels you up which requires more grinding for materials, and the materials are not enough to keep up. Not to mention how absurd the numbers are to upgrade your ship. Sorry for the rant

For me, the ghost ship was the easiest, as in it didn't take as long. Because of where the weak point is, it was a battle of attrition to see who could kill who first. Came out with barely any health left. The mortar ship was just annoying for me because I constantly had to keep slowing down to maneuver around the mortar shots while this massive douchenozzle was just out of range of my own mortar. The twin ships are hard if you don't properly deal with them. I found weakening them both to a one-shot kill, then finishing them off before the other one can deal any major damage works every time. Then El Impoluto. The nightmare ship. Genuinely, found only two tactics that seem to actually work on it. The first would be to lay down a lot of fire barrels when you see it coming at you. The second is to turn your ship around as it's charging you and start charging towards it. This will either cause him to try and turn away at the last second, or lead to the most epic naval jousting battle you've ever seen

You can literally just park your low level brig in front of Men O' War and hop on board, kill them, cut the flag and return to your ship to board and you now have a lot of loot with a low level noob Jackdaw
I first played it last year and have 100%'d it (thrice now) Working on my third playthrough. Abso masterpiece. Also, with Impoluto, you can just trigger the cutscene while letting go of the wheel, and then jump off the bow before it crashes into you. Great video!
Once in this game, I was doing the Grand Cayman assassin contract where you kill 2 brothers. I killed the first one, got on the second's boat before he left (you were intended to not catch him, get to your ship and blow him out of the water), killed everyone on board while the boat was still traveling, swam all the way back to Grand Cayman, took my ship, and auto-boarded the Man o' War. This game is perfection incarnate.

I mostly remember battling 8 ships, looting them, then be surprised by a tiny boat that hit take away my last remaining 5 hp, then losing it all, that happened a lot, I can't remember how saving worked, if you had to go to port or save yourself, I just know I lost so much loot.
The easiest way to get a man-o-war in the early game is to circle around them and jump aboard while they try to get around your ship, they will stop about as soon as you climb on and kill someone
Imagine being an Ubisoft employee carefully designing a legendary ship for days or weeks to be challenging but beatable, only for the player to get off the ship, swim to the boss, kill everyone by just pressing 2 buttons, swim back unharmed and receive full reward
@@razdvatri9598 it is my favorite cheese strat and swimming can also help you access islands that are blockaded for later in the game by giant ships cause you can learn how fast they shoot you while swimming and just dive under water whenever they are about to shoot.

Leave her johnny IS the best shanty in the game. There was a time years after the games release two of my brothers and I were talking about the game and we found out that was each of our favorite shanty.
One thing I like about black flag and unity is that you can fight using only the hidden blades. No sword just the blades. Have them equipped for your melee weapon and you will use them in combat instead of your normal sword/gun or whatever
One of the most interesting things about the earlier games to me is how there ARENT health bars. You air assassinate a boss and stick a knife in his neck he’s still gonna die just like anyone else.

The only bad parts about this game are the trademark Assassin's Creed parts (trailing missions, Abstergo, repetitive chore missions, the goofy assassins vs Templars mythos) Trim the fat and it's pure pirate kino. Sad there's no real spiritual successor.
I can only talk about Odyssey, since it's the only new AC game I've played. It's actually a lot more fun if you use cheats. Make your weapons do quite a bit more damage, and all of a sudden, all the enemies are way quicker to kill, mimicking the older AC games. This small change was enough for me to really enjoy the game, without getting stuck in combat for way too long against a few grunts
I haven't played Black Flag, but I enjoy AC Rogue a bunch, which is basically the same, really liked the story behind Shay, going from Assassin to Templar, love the ship battles and of course the Combat system and executions
The boat combat in rogue is better Instead of the slow swivel gun with at max 4 shots you get the flash speed puckle gun with like 24 shots once maxed out. Instead of the useless fire barrels you just leave a trail of smoke on the water as you go. Boarding is more fun because enemy ships can board you as well. Your heavy shot will shoot twice once maxed out. You get the ram ability almost immediately once you get the ram. Its a vibe.
You forgot option 4. Don't even engage in naval combat, just swim to the enemy boat, kill everyone, swim back, one shot the enemy boat, then board.

Not true at all, the Assassins play a big role in the game. For example, Edward's development is him shifting from being pirate and becoming a full blown Assassin. He realized that freedom under being pirate is illusionary. B
As the other person said, the pirate stuff is just a front, as in, it’s definitely a big part, but not the full story of Edward.

one thing I always liked doing with assassination missions that don't require a special assassination method as an optional objective is using the Berserk Darts and nailing the target with one, nothing's more satisfying than watching the man you gotta kill go absolutely batshit and get killed by his own minions.

You forgot to talk about one thing. When entering a ship, you can climb up the sails of your own and swing on to the other ship using a rope on the ship mast to feel like Jack Sparrow, then hang people on the enemy mast for that extra spicy Capt. Kenway introduction :=)
you can also jump in the water and wait for a ship to float past then climb up and kill the entire crew then take the whole ship without having to engage in naval combat, so you can build an entire fleet of man o wars without even buying a mortar

Black Flag was the game too good to be an Assassin's Creed game. Even almost 10 years later, it's still the most replayable of all the games. The boat and sea mechanics and gameplay are still the best ever despite being 2 generations and a decade old.
The story, while held down by the Creed storyline, is a wonderful dive into the insane highs and lows of the Golden age of pirating.
Even tho the Creed stuff is the worst part of the game, it does make Edward the most complex and engaging protagonist of the series. Connor and Ezio are cool, but Edward is a real piece of shit at the start. He never magically becomes this good guy either. He learns from the many deaths his selfishness causes. He only fully accepts the Creed at the end of the game when you've gone on an entire journey.

The only negative thing about it, was the incredibly easy combat which made the game cinematic but not challenging at all.

Ubisoft accidentally made best pirate game, masterpiece and then they forgot how to make good games at all like their brain exploded.
It is impressive just how shit Ubisoft have become. At the time of posting this I'm currently trying to get through AC Valhalla and my god is this game crap. Nothing but a chore to get through. And that can be said for a lot of their games these days.
100%. Their games are sheer ass water nowadays. Seeing the Ubisoft logo used to ensure a certified banger of a game. Now that Ubisoft logo is synonymous with half assed, soulless, bloated open world games that never lives up to the potent of the idea itself.
It's especially funny when it comes to Skull and Bones. Somehow, they managed to do a game about pirates that is not only far worse than a 10-years old game but the latter was made by themselves. i actually didn't like the tailing missions in black flag the most, and they also weren't that great in AC3 either, it was the same engine and the exact same in that regard which was annoying and you couldn't really hear or concentrate on the story during these events because you had to constantly worry about not being too close or to far away or not hiding in the right spot or some weird glitch would fuck up the whole mission making it so you have to start over again and again to the point where you suddenly don't give a shit about the story and just want it to be over with already.
but i agree with most of everything else you had to say on this game.
i think the stealth needs to be more along the lines as real stealth, where darkness actually matters, they almost had this in AC unity but nothing on the level of Splinter Cell, damn would that be a great assassins creed game using real stealth.
sadly, this will never become a reality, so instead we have to conform to the stupid line of sight lazy stealth approach and it matters not if you are walking on glass or walking too quickly or if darkness has any real effect on the game.

This game just has those occasional moments that makes it never get old.
Like during my latest playthrough now I had a rogue wave hit my ship from the side as I was boarding a ship in a storm.
Seeing the ships get thrown about by the wave was low-key terrifying.
Every time I attempt to go back and play an older AC game, I always get stopped at the chase missions, trying to parkour across the roof only for my character to swan dive off of a cliff the complete opposite direction of where I was trying to go
Replaying the game I found the simplest way to end them is preemting the pursuer. They tend to follow a set path so if you find a sweet spot and get ahead you can camp them pretty easily. That being said the worst part is how slow Edward is, even when you press R2, not to mention the movement detection andyou end up running into walls at the slightest touch.

There aren't AS MANY of those moments in Black Flag, but I have had times where you do ring-around-the-rosie with a man-o-war you thought you were going to take down immediately, then wade through people only to climb up the mast for that stupid flag objective and have Edward yeet himself off the top right into a deck-pancake instead of doing an ACTUAL swan-dive off the mast into the water...
Leading to a reset of the whole encounter and 10 minutes of your life gone :|

I loved the blowgun with berserk poison in black flag. Sometimes, hitting a proper axe bully with it would solve the whole assassination job.
surprisingly the most optimal strategy is to dart the officers. they will break defence and parry everything. they kill captains and only dies if a brute gets them right after a parry
Fun fact: if you time it correctly, you can grab hold of an enemy ship if you're in the water and climb up onto it. You can then kill all the crew, jump off back to your ship, and begin attwcking the empty ship. You will instantly win the combat because there is no one alive to fight you.

"If you manage to fight through all the Legendaries, apart from the large monetary rewards (don't forget to loot the packages for the money); finishing all four battles will also give the Jackdaw the additional move of a speed ram, where aiming forward and pressing X (PS) and A (Xbox) will allow the Jackdaw to dash for a moment for a raw with increased power."

I agree with you I especially love the legendary enemy ships that are f*cking terrifying. You can also board ships without damaging them. I once managed to swim and climb into the enemy ship killing everyone and leaving the ship intact.
The amount of times I have replayed AC IV and completed out everything, I never thought this was possible
i managed to do 2 legendary ships, could never imagine doing all 4. pain in the ass to fully upgrade the ship tho

That’s not true, I mean you have to get right on the edge of being detected and Getting off the driver seat of your ship but once you do that, you can swim right up to them and pick them off. Now it is a long swim and there is a chance you’ll die from their cannons but I made it and took out two legendary ships this way.

I remember my first run-in with a Legendary Ship. Was massively underleveled, was checking out the icon on the map, saw the masts on the horizon in the middle of nowhere and took a look.
Level 60…. So I did what any sane gamer would do, which is a trick phrase because there are no sane gamers.
I crept closer to check it’s aggro range.
Got slapped with a menacing cutscene and a rapetrain of a ship bearing down on me at full speed.
I still think it’s no coincidence that the most terrifying and arguably the most dangerous of these ships is located in the lowest difficulty quarter of the map.
What followed was a desperate attempt to skedaddle that climaxed in me pulling off a fishtail manoeuvre on a 17th century wooden ship to avoid a ramming run to escape with a sliver of hp…
It was one sided, white knuckle and epic.
My dumbass tried to swim to it. So much effort just to get sniped when I got within half a mile of it 😭

Im so glad to find someone who sees Black Flag the way I always saw it. The game is so damned fun that i played more than a hundred hours of it and put it down without ever finishing the story. I was having so much fun plundering that I forgot to beat the game.

Yeah, one thing that annoyed me about AC IV: Black Flag. Even though it's in my Top 3 games in the series.. Is that they seemed to take 3 steps forward with the combat in Assassin's Creed III but then about 4 (or 5) steps back with AC IV: Black Flag. They neutered the simultaneous counters, drastically. You get them, maybe once in a blue moon (if that) and somehow, the combat itself didn't feel quite as refined or polished, mechanically. Even though Edward was skilled enough to warrant having the mechanics than Connor had.
I did enjoy getting into fist-fights with the guys you got a cut-scene with, when you went to unlock a bar.
Right out of the gate we have double tool kills all over the place. This shows me you understand the full list of features in the combat and this is going to be a pretty good video
In AC3 you can eventually carry two double barreled pistols for a total of four shots, but you have to beat 80% of the game before you unlock the holster that allows for this. Liberation's quad pepperbox is much more easily obtainable and only has to reload once, so there is precedent for the same ammo capacity across the Kenway saga (except Rogue got kind of shafted in this regard)
Without HUD, Black Flag's single sword attacks are among the most difficult to react to. It's the massive red counter icons that make defense trivial. Because the Kenway games are nigh unplayable in improv without an SSI, there's not much you can do about this as a player
Okay, I actually didn't know you could cause Assassins' deaths indirectly without getting desynced. That's funny as hell
Every Kenway protagonist can do every type of assassination with any weapon, even fists (except sometimes doubles). In AC3 classic you have to manually switch between hidden blades and primary weapons to get this to work, but AC3R automatically changes it based on profile like the other games. Try drawing dual swords and doing a walking lateral double assassination, for example (approach two targets from the side). That's one of my favorites in Black Flag. There are some great animation overviews that show all the ways you can murder people in these games, and boy are there a lot of options

Ac rogue remastered had the ship combat a little better. Everything from the rear fire weapon and how your ship changes with upgrades, to the blizzards and improved enemy aggro. Also, you can use a grenade launcher to wipe them out. It's just a shame the game was short

Funnily enough ac rogue was a part of ac 4 just a different place. It was also the first ac game that I played before finding out the black flag. I could say rogue definitely improved the ship battle and also the goods that you can get from raiding ships

I very much feel the same way. It also felt like Shay's actions actually had weight and he was a genuine threat, he had presence with that signature coat and rifle slung over the shoulder. Dude was fucking lethal and the Morrigan was seeeeeexxxxxyy compared to the jackdaw (my opinion)

As far as I'm concerned, I FULLY 100% agree! Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are *NOT* Assassin's Creed games. And out of those 3, I've only played Odyssey (Platinumed it and all the DLC) but I can definitely and safely say it's not an Assassin's Creed game. The worst thing they ever did with the franchise, was trying to turn it into "The Witcher's Creed". It just doesn't work and takes away the identity of what the Assassin's Creed games are. It lost its identity, which is ironic because there was a mobile Assassin's Creed game called "Assassin's Creed Identity".
But I'm pleased that there are others who are (mainly) men of culture and can truly appreciate how great AC IV: Black Flag really is. It's in my Top 3 games in the series; my 2nd favorite, behind AC III and before AC (w/ Altair). The game FULLY DESERVES a Remake/Remaster.. With the hardware we have now, they could turn literally turn Blackbeard's CGI intro into actual gameplay (Lighting, movement, shadows, shading. etc.) And I hope one day, they do.
I like to describe AC black flag’s combat system as, “Simple yet effective and satisfying” and the rest the game aside from that is like a chef’s kiss. Although, when I was playing through black flag and rogue, there were several times when I killed a guy on ships after boarding and they turned into a big spagetti mess floating in the air.

You can get a takedown in AC Odyssey on any human enemy by making sure the last hit is a Heavy Attack. Works 90% of the time
If its the last enemy and there are like two takedown animations per weapon type. And even if it had as many killing animations as the old games it would still not be worth it because it takes an average of 5 minutes to kill 10 basic level enemy’s that are on your level. While on the other hand it takes like 5 seconds to solo an entire army in blackflag.

I set sail from Nassau with a pint of orange juice and a plate from Long John Silvers. I first came across the HMS Prince and my excitement faded into misery as it vaulted 100 mortar shots back to back at my measly hull until the screams of my crew faded into....silence. along with the damn fog that quite literally blinds you. But i used one, forgotten method. Chain shot/Ram and eventually...the Prince sank.
La Dama Negra was the second. My orange juice was half full and i had 3 peices of fish left, so rations were getting low. As i quickly found out this ship not only fires mortars every 5 seconds, it also removes the red warning symbol. So i was playing a game of hide and seek for keeps for about 3 hours until i realized. The ship is slow. Like, more slow than usual. So i flanked it and fired a chain shot right up booty and at last i saw it take damage, because apparently you cant shoot it from the sides its impenetrable. After another hour of chain shot/ram this ship finally fell.
Next was HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign. My orange juice was gone and the fish had depleted by this time. Not only is it a shiver me timbers gank fest in this fight but they will lure you between the two of them shred you from both ships broadside cannons. These murderous For Honor veterans took me 3 days to finally get. Also once you sink one, the other goes absolutely senile, sets itself on fire, and rams you. Might not sound bad, but boy does it hurt.
Finally, the big one, El Impuloto. Took me a solid 4 days to realize the ram on this ship was instantly kill you. To say this ship is hard is an understatement i would rather fight two tigers in a bathroom with a lit candle than ever do this again. This ship has zero budget cuts. It will end your breathing privilege every single time. Unless you chain shot it, ram it, and then mortar it. In that order. Repeatedly. For 2 hours. And eventually, you will be crowned big papa sailor. In all my years of gaming the legendary ships are the only thing i will NEVER do again.
Excellent review! I really enjoyed the shanty section, and agree that it's the crew and the music which makes those sweet journeys across the Caribbean *that* good. Thanks for all your hard work on this, and I wish your channel all the success.

I actually really enjoyed AC Odyssey.
The ship combat was at its peak in Rogue though.
To me I feel it would have been better off being its own game rather than the Assassin's Creed name put on it. Because to me it just is not an Assassin Creed game.

I suffered through odyssey, finished it and never want to play it again. I love grindy games, jrpgs are some of my favorite games, but the grind in odyssey was frustrating.
Especially because they took the WORST rpg mechanic and jammed them into the game, leveled items, and they make it so you can't have your items leveled go your character unless you BUY IN-GAME RESOURCES WITH REAL MONEY IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME, because grinding for materials levels you up which requires more grinding for materials, and the materials are not enough to keep up. Not to mention how absurd the numbers are to upgrade your ship.

For me The ghoust ship was eazy.
The spanish super armoured ship and the black and white tag team duo where super hard.

For me, the ghost ship was the easiest, as in it didn't take as long. Because of where the weak point is, it was a battle of attrition to see who could kill who first. Came out with barely any health left. The mortar ship was just annoying for me because I constantly had to keep slowing down to maneuver around the mortar shots while this massive douchenozzle was just out of range of my own mortar. The twin ships are hard if you don't properly deal with them. I found weakening them both to a one-shot kill, then finishing them off before the other one can deal any major damage works every time. Then El Impoluto. The nightmare ship. Genuinely, found only two tactics that seem to actually work on it. The first would be to lay down a lot of fire barrels when you see it coming at you. The second is to turn your ship around as it's charging you and start charging towards it. This will either cause him to try and turn away at the last second, or lead to the most epic naval jousting battle you've ever seen
Fun tip with that ramming ship: use the sea mines you keep forgetting about
Not gonna lie I really enjoyed this game, Mary's death and subsequent hallucination sequence really made me emotional

Once in this game, I was doing the Grand Cayman assassin contract where you kill 2 brothers. I killed the first one, got on the second's boat before he left (you were intended to not catch him, get to your ship and blow him out of the water), killed everyone on board while the boat was still traveling, swam all the way back to Grand Cayman, took my ship, and auto-boarded the Man o' War.
This game is perfection incarnate.

I mostly remember battling 8 ships, looting them, then be surprised by a tiny boat that hit take away my last remaining 5 hp, then losing it all,
that happened a lot, I can't remember how saving worked, if you had to go to port or save yourself, I just know I lost so much loot.
The easiest way to get a man-o-war in the early game is to circle around them and jump aboard while they try to get around your ship, they will stop about as soon as you climb on and kill someone
Imagine being an Ubisoft employee carefully designing a legendary ship for days or weeks to be challenging but beatable, only for the player to get off the ship, swim to the boss, kill everyone by just pressing 2 buttons, swim back unharmed and receive full reward
@@razdvatri9598 it is my favorite cheese strat and swimming can also help you access islands that are blockaded for later in the game by giant ships cause you can learn how fast they shoot you while swimming and just dive under water whenever they are about to shoot.

Leave her johnny IS the best shanty in the game. There was a time years after the games release two of my brothers and I were talking about the game and we found out that was each of our favorite shanty.
One thing I like about black flag and unity is that you can fight using only the hidden blades. No sword just the blades. Have them equipped for your melee weapon and you will use them in combat instead of your normal sword/gun or whatever

One of the most interesting things about the earlier games to me is how there ARENT health bars. You air assassinate a boss and stick a knife in his neck he’s still gonna die just like anyone else.

The only bad parts about this game are the trademark Assassin's Creed parts (trailing missions, Abstergo, repetitive chore missions, the goofy assassins vs Templars mythos)
Trim the fat and it's pure pirate kino. Sad there's no real spiritual successor.
I can only talk about Odyssey, since it's the only new AC game I've played. It's actually a lot more fun if you use cheats. Make your weapons do quite a bit more damage, and all of a sudden, all the enemies are way quicker to kill, mimicking the older AC games.
This small change was enough for me to really enjoy the game, without getting stuck in combat for way too long against a few grunts
I haven't played Black Flag, but I enjoy AC Rogue a bunch, which is basically the same, really liked the story behind Shay, going from Assassin to Templar, love the ship battles and of course the Combat system and executions

This video got me to re-install Black Flag and also to never buy another Assassins Creed until Black Flag 2 comes out.
The boat combat in rogue is better
Instead of the slow swivel gun with at max 4 shots you get the flash speed puckle gun with like 24 shots once maxed out.
Instead of the useless fire barrels you just leave a trail of smoke on the water as you go.
Boarding is more fun because enemy ships can board you as well.
Your heavy shot will shoot twice once maxed out.
You get the ram ability almost immediately once you get the ram.
Its a vibe.
