I was introduced to Sarah a few years ago via reruns. I can’t get enough of her design elements. What I like the most is that she’s not shy to also include the oops, this makes her so approachable.
This one hasn't stood up well over time, it reads juvenile with the primary colors palette, I get the feeling now that the dragon floral was something they had on hand and thought they could make it work by calling red "bold" over and over. Not trying to diss it now, I remember thinking at the time that it was new and exciting, which it was, but it just hasn't held up. It was a good reno for its day.
I like his grandpas metals best.. I also like the framed art pieces Tommy picked out along with the two round tire molds turned mirrors. And the books warmed it up along with the rug. I wasn't a big fan of the bed/chair fabrics, but I liked the colors in them.
I agree. The different elements on their own were cool and I liked them but in the end almost nothing went together for me. I didn't like the wingback chair from the beginning, a club chair in that fabric would have been so much nicer. I felt like too many things were competing with each other and I hated those bed side lamps. I actually liked the second one the best and thought the room could use more cleaner, simpler items to balance it all out.
@@blondie6611 I liked the black lamps best, too. They worked wonderfully with the window frames. Yes, they were shiny, but isn't that just a different take on her "sparkle"? She put in a chandelier. That was so much more out of place, I thought.
I think I did like the idea but for me it's not working. I feel like the choices don't fit the industrial space of the bedroom. I feel like it's a mismatch that the furniture don't belong there! But if the client is happy then it's a matter of taste.
I agree. The bed is not working for me. I think the whole room would improve with a solid wooden headboard and footboard. I'm not sure the client was happy. His laugh when he walked in sounded less than pleased to me, and he said he loved the layout, the window treatments and the personal touches. He did not say he loved the color scheme. This was a rare episode where they didn't show the client the fabrics for approval, which I suspect was his idea which he might have regretted.
This is the first time I ever hated a room that Sarah did. I would have made the headboard and the footboard leather and the chair leather. If you want to add those patterns turn them into pillows. The rug was beautiful, the curtains were beautiful but those patterns for the bed and the chair were absolutely hideous.
Too too busy for me, skip the ladder, the reds and plaids..and the mixed patterns. Guess that is most of it, sorry. Love the drapes. I would have gone with dark rattan chairs, maybe leather seating covers, a leather or wooden bed frame, mixed patterns in tans with dark solid accents. Lots of plants with all that sunlight. That client did not look like this was his style. Where do friends sit?
Not a fan of this project! It's way too busy and distracts from the industrial feel of the loft. I Agee, pretty elements that don't do this project justice.
Agree! Love Sarah and Tommy but this redo went in the wrong direction. This fabulous loft bedroom screams a sophisticated and cool Restoration Hardware look, not busy bright colored prints.
@@jenjones8353 This is a throwback to the 70's. I think the rug is the single worst choice in the room. A less busy rug under the busy fabric on the bed, please. The dragon fabric fights with the rug for your eye, yet it was supposed to be the focal point.
That bed didn't work the first time years ago when I saw this and it still says ANYTHING but belongs in a man's room. That rug and bed UGGGG no no no...bet he didn't keep those two things long. Grandpa's pic should have been framed with the medals--HUGE MISS. Where are you when you watch that TV? The side tables...should have used the blue, found a LEATHER bench to go with the side rails on the bed. Poor Andrew got new but still not what a MALE would want. Many of the color elements would work in a teen's room. Grown MAN --not so much.
Chiang Mai dragon has been my favorite pattern for decades. This loft design is my favorite of their more recent designs. I would have liked to see the ladder resting against the bank of closets to break up that area.
Question: How are they going to watch TV comfortably from the bed with that idiotic positioning? It looks a little kitschy with all that shabby industrial chic mixed with tradtional patterns.
This is the first time I don't like the makeover done by Sarah. I feel it cluttered. Too much patterns and colours. It may be for rent not for long time habitat.
Love this one, the only thing I wasn’t keen on was the ladder , other than that l would be more than happy with this bedroom right now, l think it has stood the test of time. Loved the bedside lamps.
Yes, I agree. They don't work together. I thought it was important to mix bold prints by including *different* scale, not the same. The bold bed should be paired with a small pattern near it.
I wonder if you could use a rattan bench at the foot of the bed along with that elongated rosy pillow fabric on the bed for the cushion top. Use the plaid as a cord around the rosy fabric bench cushion. The rattan would match the end tables and ceiling and the cushion top would pick up that rosy color of the long pillow and pedal stool. The plaid pillows on the bed could have a cord that is the same rosy fabric.
That condo is my dream space! Of course the result with Sarah is always fantabulous! Edit: had to add a bit more comments. LOOOVE that dragon fabric! However, I don't think the rug and the plaid go with it, color matching or not. I think the rug should be more modern, and 2 smaller pillows in the same fabric as the bed (or just one) would be good in front of other color block pillows. But I _adore_ those side lamps, and I'm not even a fan of yellow! Also, the TV placement is not good. Watching TV from the _side_ of your bed? Overall though, the colors and color pops are amazing.
One of Sarah’s “building blocks” advice is to keep the basics neutral and to add color and pattern where you can change it later more easily. But the bed covered in such a specific, busy, and colorful pattern is a massive commitment. One episode, and I’m already tired of that fabric! Obviously, I’m not the decorator, but using the dragon fabric on the chair or the shams or even the bedding would have allowed more flexibility for the client and the room.
katef: I think the grandfather's medals would have made more of a statement if they had been on a black, or dark blue (?) background, referencing the fabric of the material in the inspiration picture...white seems a little bland for such a show stopper of a room.
I'm not quite sure it enhances the loft. A little too much red.... Other colors work better. Red is just too loud! And the plaid is a good idea to make it more masculine for a guy.
I love you Sarah (and Tommy) but this was a total miss for me. Nothing about this says urban adult male. I get the idea of a woman's touch but leave some room for the potential woman in his life to add hers. High quality as always you guys!
Beautiful bones Sarah and Tommy had to work with. Defintely som beautiful, genius elements in the finished room. But the overall impression is too busy and chaotic, lacking in elegance and sophistication. They could have solved that by dialling down on the primary colors. Red, blue and Yellow are fighting for attention and is reminisent of a kindergarten classroom. Poor sod that has to relax and fall asleep there.
Everything is hideous!! The bed and rug are the worst!! The only thing nice is the window treatments. Notice how the client said he loved the layout, the window treatment and the personal touches. NOT the design or furnishings!! 🤣🤣
Very nice comfortable design. Love the personal touches of his grandfather's medals that make it his own. Well done!
This is extravaganza!!! Chinese gypsy burst out! Yak! The guy wanted different "wow" effect.
I like the chair, drapes wall color and rug. Nothing else.
I love the dragon fabric!
Beautiful room as always. Of course one of my greatest highlight is Tommy’s sense humor. Well done . Your my favorite designer.
Tommy makes the show!
I love this! All the fabrics are amazing!
Love the outcome of the room. Very different! I love Tommy and Sarah working together! They make a great team together!
I think, judging by the colours and patterns in this room…..I’m a beige person 😂. I may wake up screaming in the night….sorry.
That dragon fabric did not work with all the other fabric patterns and colors!!!
I was introduced to Sarah a few years ago via reruns. I can’t get enough of her design elements. What I like the most is that she’s not shy to also include the oops, this makes her so approachable.
Another Canadian treasure 😀
They are a winning combination, and I've never seen a project from them I didn't love.
This one should have been more Tommy, less Sarah.
What a delightful design! Love the juxtaposition of styles and the bold while livable result.
Like some of the ideas here; but you're going to hate me. That dragon fabric is so wrong sorry.
This one hasn't stood up well over time, it reads juvenile with the primary colors palette, I get the feeling now that the dragon floral was something they had on hand and thought they could make it work by calling red "bold" over and over. sarah "s clothes and jewelry is just as unique and creative as her designs
The BEST room by far that they've created. I think it's the yin/yang of masculine and feminine, industrial and curvaceous, that works so well.
I could, and have, watched these two all Day! Everything they do is, ME!
I like his grandpas metals best.. I also like the framed art pieces Tommy picked out along with the two round tire molds turned mirrors. And the books warmed it up along with the rug. I wasn't a big fan of the bed/chair fabrics, but I liked the colors in them.
Wow, they took a downtown apartment and made it grandma's apartment. I feel bad for that client...
Yeah, this was a miss for me too. I think if the bed were replaced with a wooden bed, the rest could stay, though.
I agree. The different elements on their own were cool and I liked them but in the end almost nothing went together for me. Hahahaha, who's grandma? My grandma would throw the ladder and tables to the trash where they belong.
@@blondie6611 I liked the black lamps best, too. They worked wonderfully with the window frames. Yes, they were shiny, but isn't that just a different take on her "sparkle"? She put in a chandelier. That was so much more out of place, I thought.
I hate this room, everything clashes. I only came on to check if anyone else hated it too!

Lice Sarah's designs, but for me too many patterns. I require color but need less discretion.

love the colours and fabrics but the TV is definitely not at the right spot

More Sarah, please. 🤍
Christmas room.
one of my favorite 'Tommyisms' ...if the girl in his life is named Gary, LOL
I love the pattern on the head board !
The primary colors look like a kids room ti me
OMG - look at how your necklace matches the colors (but of course you know that!).
katef: I think the grandfather's medals would have made more of a statement if they had been on a black, or dark blue (?) background, referencing the fabric of the material in the inspiration picture...white seems a little bland for such a show stopper of a room.
Tommy, where did you source the leather?
I'm sorry I'm just not liking this at all this looks like it was designed for a woman and not for a man. Way too many colors
Agreed.
I liked the green light
I always love your remodels but for once I can’t stand this one
I'm not quite sure it enhances the loft. A little too much red.... Other colors work better. Red is just too loud! And the plaid is a good idea to make it more masculine for a guy.
What year was this made?
The episode came out in early 2011, so I'm assuming it was filmed in 2010.
LOL @ "and potentially for someone else"
schumacher's chiang mai dragon!!! Iconic
Stunning 😍
Lovely room but way too girly for a man in my opinion.
Very imaginative.
Sarah's necklace have the same colours is as the walls....
Sangat bagus 🥰
To me its more maximalist 2022. Its beautiful though 😍
That is wonder
I love this room and have lusted over the multi color dragon fabric for so long.
I love you Sarah (and Tommy) but this was a total miss for me. Nothing about this says urban adult male. I get the idea of a woman's touch but leave some room for the potential woman in his life to add hers. High quality as always you guys!

This room doesn't work. The bed and the rug are both fighting for attention leaving neither one to shine.
My name's Gary, Tommy but I'm not a woman and I like that pattern.
Whoa! Or woe! What a mess!
