I absolutely love watching this guy's footwork inside a racecar. Boris Said is one hell of a racer and I'd be more than honored to take his advice on how to race cars on road courses. It's almost like watching a person create art when the camera shows his fancy footwork haha
That's exactly what Klaus Graf once explained to us german NASCAR fans on TV. These Stockcars are so difficult to drive, so Boris has to tell the car what he'll be doing next. Note how he opens the throttle just a bit and then slams it. All our european racecars can be floored just after the apex because of suspension, low weight and aero, like Lauda once said "A monkey could drive them" I'm a regular Le Mans visitor, it is amazing how early these guys go full throttle, Boris really works here
The gear setup, it appears, is a 3 gear setup. He was bouncing the motor off the rev chip; ~9500 RPM. Really cool hearing/watching him downshift from 3rd to 1st going into the hairpin.
@davis5481 It's called a dog box, which has straight cut gears and dog rings in place of syncros. Makes way more noise than a street transmission and is easier to tear up, but the result is stronger gears and really fast shifts.
Absolutely right. Almost wish that Boris would come over to the British/World Touring Car series for a season, I'm convinced that if he was given a good team he would do a Nigel Mansell - as in, come in, and win the title in his first season. He is an unbelievable road course driver.
@Smokinstewart05 NASCAR series all use 4 speed + reverse gearboxes. Drivers seldom use 1st during road courses races because of the risk of breaking rear traction with the greater power and torque of the engine's higher RPM's. They'll use 1st in qualifying or when things get heated up during the end of the race and they're fighting for position. So the shifts going into the hairpin would have been 4th to 2nd.
He taught Kasey and apparently he now feels Kahne is better than him. Boris really has my respect as an individual and as a driver, I cannot tackle Infineon in the virtual world - I constantly get bucked by the uphill/downhill chicane on the Turn 2-3 tranformation. You have to respect someone with the ability to drive these things well - even Montoya (just stop the crash & bash). One guy who really deserves attention at Infineon is McMurray. For all his poor showing he's good on roadies.
It's a sequantial gearbox. You don't need to use the clutch, however it's easier to change gears with the clutch. The only time you HAVE TO use it is when you go from park to 1st gear.
They use dog boxes, it's set up so they don't need to clutch during shifts. They've used h-pattern for all this time, they're only retiring it in 2022 for a sequential.
@granpastreetz Straight cut gears in the gearbox. Most road car transmissions use helical cut gears with synchronization mechanisms to make the shifts smoother. You can shift these transmissions quite fast if you know what you're doing, but they won't be nearly as fast as a gearbox using straight cut gears with what are called "dog rings". Dog engagement gearboxes don't require the gears being shifted to be matched with the engine's RPM, so you can select gears with much greater speed.
Don't need to. Technically don't need to on downshifts either, though it's harder. Just have to really be good with the gearbox. Don't need to use the clutch in passenger cars either.
@PulletSurprise I understand what kind of gearboxes NASCAR uses. Some drivers prefer a 3 gear, lower rear ratio for Infineon. The 1st gear is always tall just to keep traction regardless if the car is set with 3 or 4 gears. You can see when he's in 1st or 2nd he's rolling into the throttle, not just full throttle right away. Here's a Jeff Gordon on board. /watch?v=0E6QYjGnRRc
I met him last saturday and he cussed my step dad and his teamster brotheres. He threatned to spray us with a fire hose... and said the F*** word every other word... He owns a BMW dealership in Murrieta CA.
@granpastreetz i'm not a mechanic by any means, but i think it has something to do with the synchronized transmissions they use in the cars. if you time it perfectly you don't have to use the clutch.
It was still kind of like that back then for both of those series. I mean, look at Scott Wimmer, Great talent who got moved to the wrong Cup team in 2004.
Just backfire from the exhaust (unburned fuel exploding) Race engines, especially less engineered (in terms of high tech) ones like NASCAR engines do this But I admire these engines. Carburettor engines with 5,7 litres going close to 10k rpm... WOW btw, Boris is one hell of a road course driver. He was BMW worksdriver when they brought the old E46 M3 GTR ALMS car to the Nurburgring 24h on the Nordschleife. He did well sharing the car with Stuck and other Ring experts
@Helldriver7839782389 Its got a lot to do with the sensitivity you develop in your feet. Whe u race manual gearboxes all your life, you right feet becomes more sensitive to the breaks. In europe most cars have semiautomatic ot sequential shifts which dont need a clutch, just two pedals while racing. hence drivers use lots of left foot breaking and develop their left foot to be more sensitive. So he may prefer to use his right feet since he is used to it, even whn not required.
@Helldriver7839782389 It has nothing to do about making a difference or not required in america. This guy is faster than most european drivers who use left foor breaking. FYI in 2005 Boris Said won the 24 Hours Nürburgring Nordschleife.....thats enough said.

Damn! That heel-and-toe shift is incredible.
Having the footwork picture really adds to it! Mezmerizing!
The actual reason he uses the clutch on downshifts isn't to save the transmission but to keep from locking up the tires. I would know, I race
@Smokinstewart05

What do you tackle infineon in

Funny
Actually, you can it w/ just about any transmission if you have the RPMs matched correctly. If not, you'll be replacing the synchros very quickly.
Engine sounds fucking great!!!!!
I met him twice. Really disappointed he didn't get a prototype ride.
Woah, I never knew that. Boris is cool.
When he hit the rev limiter that sounded so hot.

god damn, he revs his rpms high as fuck
@TGTAP
You do if you don't like wheel hop under braking.

back when the driver was the real difference, not like now. its just like f1 now. the best cars win, not the best drivers
It was still kind of like that back then for both of those series. I mean, look at Scott Wimmer, Great talent who got moved to the wrong Cup team in 2004.
Money buys speed
To be fair it has always been like that. HMS and Roush were powerhouses during this era as an example
Sequential gearbox, like a motorcycle. See "Sequential Manual Transmission" in wikipedia.
Those RPM's!
Boris Said, "I don't need fourth gear, I can rev this thing up to 9500 if I want to or not!" 😅
WHO SAID?!?.... BORIS SAID!!!!!
No Infinion next year.. Or any road course... :( Nascar is epic when its road course.
@PulletSurprise Not all the time. JPM rarely uses the clutch and deals just fine
Who Won 2005 Dodge Save-Mart 350?
NASCAR legend
No its nascar incar when it was cable only.
@guitarguy940 I think this is Nascar Hotpass when it was PvP.
Where did the Dale Jr onboard go from this year?
1:14 hohoho!
great sound, i like

WHOOAAAA soundz like he shatterd 4th at 1:14
There was no 4th 😂😂😂😂

Do NASCAR cars have pad knock-back at all? They must have some but is it very prominent?
Thats a hell of a transmission when all you have to do is pump the gas to shift up.
@jimmiesdrivefor5
WHO SAID?
man that thing is screaming along pit straight.
I'm a "Said Head"!!!! Boris Rules!!!!!
wallace and rudd had the best foot work there
what did boris say?
do you have to time the RPMs right like with eaton 8,10,13,18 speeds?
William Grantham Sonoma On-Board
its called flat shiting lol omg
No
odd to see a driver using a clutch at a road course. He doesn't need to use it
2005 Sonoma
I wonder how good he is at dancing??? if he is any good he would a good star on'Dancing with the Stars!'
Boris said what?

Huh. Never knew about this.
straight cut gears
@PulletSurprise BORIS SAID
I Have Nascar In-Car Jamie Mcmurray & Kyle Busch On-Board
& Ron Fellows Onboard
I'm surprised he's not a left foot braker.
NASCAR on fox
Yes
it does not look like a very hard track and he does not even do any kerb hopping
PpV*
what did boris say?
who said?
