    U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or require a person to choose one nationality or another. A U.S. citizen may naturalize in a foreign state without any risk to his or her U.S. citizenship. However, persons who acquire a foreign nationality after age 18 by applying for it may relinquish their U.S. nationality if they wish to do so. In order to relinquish U.S. nationality by virtue of naturalization as a citizen of a foreign state, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign nationality voluntarily and with the intention to relinquish U.S. nationality. Intent may be shown by the person’s statements and conduct.
    Dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries, and either country has the right to enforce its laws. It is important to note the problems attendant to dual nationality. Claims of other countries upon U.S. dual-nationals often place them in situations where their obligations to one country are in conflict with the laws of the other. In addition, their dual nationality may hamper efforts of the U.S. Government to provide consular protection to them when they are abroad, especially when they are in the country of their second nationality.
    U.S. nationals, including dual nationals, must use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the United States. Dual nationals may also be required by the foreign country to use its passport to enter and leave that country. Use of the foreign passport to travel to or from a country other than the United States is not inconsistent with U.S. law.

    Thanks for this information. I think where the Dual citizenship card plays an important role is for example when you need to travel to Ghana and you realize that your Ghana passport has expired. you can comfortably travel on your foreign passport - be it UK, European or US together with the Dual citizenship card without the need to go for a visa at the embassy. Without the Dual citizenship card you cannot travel on your foreign passport without obtaining a visa. I hope I'm making some sense here. Thank you

      Very well explained. But how many have obtained the dual citizenship card, it takes forever to process in Washington, D.C. and in Ghana 🇬🇭 they only stamp a paper for you as dual citizenship card. Am yet to see an actual dual citizenship card, if one exists- does it have expiration date?. The best way is the USA 🇺🇸 and Ghana 🇬🇭 passport- with this you are sure of doing business as usual in Ghana 🇬🇭 with ease. Thanks 🙏
      But yes 👍🏿 you can travel with your Ghana 🇬🇭 And USA 🇺🇸 passport.

      @@TheSENYO it exists as I got mine long ago about 16 years ago and there is no expiry date date on the card. I have since changed my Ghanaian passports a number of times so the passport I used to obtain the dual nationality card is long expired.. The funny thing is that I am now much older and it looks rather awkward having a card with an old photo. My son was then only about 3 yrs old and he’s now 19 years. I normally come to Ghana with my Ghanaian passport to avoid the stamping of my European passport and when travelling back, I still use my Ghanaian passport with the dual nationality card but they have now scrapped out the dual nationality card so you can travel on either of your passports but I still use my Ghanaian passport to avoid too many stamps in my European passport. You just have to show your 2 passports to show that you are a dual national. My son recently left Accra for the Uk on his Ghanaian passport without a visa because he has an European passport. They automatically asked whether he had another passport and.asked for his European passport instead or the Dual Nationality card. I still keep it with my documents though. So NO you don’t need any dual nationality card now.

    Mr. Jermaine Nkrumah is right, I got a video coming up on this issue. Am yet to see a card for dual citizenship. When you process that through Washington, D.C. in USA 🇺🇸 it takes forever to get your card. If you process it in Ghana 🇬🇭 they keep your USA 🇺🇸 passport for like three weeks and issue you a stamped paper as dual citizenship.
    When you become a citizen of the USA 🇺🇸 you don’t formally renounce your Ghanaian citizenship so all you have to do is renew your Ghana 🇬🇭 passport with your old Ghana 🇬🇭 passport and birth certificate and it’s now good for 10 years. You can travel 🧳 with the two passports. However the Ghana 🇬🇭 embassy in Washington D.C says you can’t use two passports interchangeably, it’s an offense. What they saying if you have two passports- you can travel from USA to Ghana 🇬🇭 on Ghana 🇬🇭 passport and when leaving you can leave from Ghana with USA 🇺🇸 passport. The best solution to this is either accept us to carry two passports or one ☝️ because your USA 🇺🇸 passport has your place of birth as Ghana 🇬🇭. Well you are allowed to travel with the Ghana 🇬🇭 and USA 🇺🇸 passport. Just present Ghana 🇬🇭 passport at port of entry in Ghana 🇬🇭. You don’t need to apply for dual citizenship. USA 🇺🇸 allows you dual citizenship but does not encourage it. And y’all don’t forget to always carry your yellow fever card.

    So let's say i have both Ghana and US passport and i want to go to Ghana, do i have to use the Ghanaian passport to go and when i am returning, should i use the US passport?
    My reason for asking is that if i am a green card holder with a Ghana passport, at the port of entry, US immigration demand for the green card. So instead of presenting the Ghana passport and the green card, can i present both the US passport and Ghana passport to the immigration officials

    Look we should clear this issue properly.There are countries like germany,where you have to renounce your Ghanaian nationality before you're legible to obtain or acquire their nationality.
    Technically you cannot hold two passports as a german.So in their case you have to apply for a dual citizenship identity card if you want to enjoy the comfort of not taking a visa anytime you're travelling to Ghana or more yet being surcharged for over staying.
    I suggest people should seek for further informations or proper clarification on their status.Because it can vary depending on which foreign nationality you've acquired,especially if your case like that of Germany.

      USA 🇺🇸 you don’t formally denounce your Ghana 🇬🇭 citizenship. To denounce Ghana citizenship the application alone is $400. Germany 🇩🇪 case is different, it’s more relaxed in USA 🇺🇸. All you need to do is renew Ghana 🇬🇭 passport and you are good to go with your USA passport. Ghana 🇬🇭 allows you to carry two passports. However they say it’s an offense to use two passports interchangeably to deceive immigration officers lol which does not make any sense. Thanks 🙏

      It would be illegal for you to apply for dual citizenship if you have renounced your Ghanaian citizenship and German does not allow dual citizenship. There are exceptions for people who where born in Germany where one of their parents is a Ghanaian and the other is a German national. You can have your Ghanaian citizenship reinstated by applying for dual citizenship if and only if German allows dual citizenship.

      @@TheSENYO It is true that you cannot use 2 passports interchangeably. The golden rule is that, YOU ENTER AND EXIT A COUNTRY WITH THE SAME PASSPORT. You exit USA with your US passport. You enter Ghana with your Ghanaian passport but let the immigration know that you have a US passport. You exit Ghana with your Ghana passort and show the immigration officer your US passport. You enter USA with your US passport. By applying the golden rule, you have not used 2 passports interchangeably because you entered and exited Ghana with your Ghanaian passport.

    A holder of dual citizenship will be permitted to remain in Ghana without limitation if the person entered the country on a Ghana passport.

    • @shirleymingle
      @shirleymingle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure what you question is trying to establish. There are African countries currently trading with trading agreements in place ie Ghana, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe and Kenya to name a few.
      If your question was referring to why ALL African countries are not trading then maybe you can ask the same of countries such as Norway who are not part of the EU but enjoy EU privileges.
      Again... im not sure what your question was trying to establish but one thing i do know is one step at a time we can and will
      Make Africa great again!

    • @sterlingferguson1704
      @sterlingferguson1704 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shirleymingle There is very little trade going with the African countries because there is very little to trade. Another reason is the transportation system in Africa makes it hard for inter-Africa trade. Dangote was talking about this in one of his interviews that Benin was buying cement from China that costed more money and thousand of miles away, when his cement was cheaper and twenty five miles away. China loans these countries money and they must buy Chinese goods. This is some of the problems of inter-Africa trade.

    • @shirleymingle
      @shirleymingle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t the name “African Union” denote many other things besides trading? And even if only two countries are trading within African i think we can still use the term African Union to promote exactly what the name suggests. My thing is, just because few countries are trading and albeit trading in few materials doesn’t mean we cannot use the term African Union. #Wearetrying😊. Let’s see the glass as half full and support each other. Where we want to see improvement lets take a step as individuals to make that improvement happen.
