I am also pretty new with "amp modelers". My "struggles" maybe just mirror what many might experience. The MG-300 was plug, play and get a really good sound, whilst the MG-30 needs quite some tweaking to get it right... But I am working on it ;-)
      Thanks for your comment!

The only reason I found this post is because someone had a used MG-300 for sale on Facebook Marketplace here in town. Because of other reviews, but mostly this one, I decided to go take a look and a listen. I was lucky that the seller was an older gentleman that owned a dozen guitars, writes music using several DAWS, has an amp collection, and has played guitars for years. He hooked it up and we went through all the different options. It was like new, and came with the original box and paperwork. And I got it for $60. My grandson and I have been having a blast playing with it the last couple of days. Thanks for your great review and demonstration. I liked the video and subscribed to your channel. Take care.

Totally appreciate this great comparison! Like several others here, was waiting for the 30, but based on sound, the 300 blows it out of the water. Much more organic.

Thanks for the review. I would caution folks in the quick assumption that the 300 sounds better than the 30 based on this video alone. While it may seem to in this video, there is a factor called the modeler sweet spot. That is the settings that sound best in a particular amp model or modeled pedal. Often it involves a tone or EQ setting to sound darker or brighter. This video is the sweet spot of the 300 captured well. However, instead of finding the sweet spot of settings for the 30, it was set with the same settings as the 300. Such a method doesn't present the best that each unit has to offer. If the good settings on the 30 had been set on the 300, it would probably sound muddier (as the models in the 30 seem brighter). You see this in analog drive pedals too. A company tweaks a circuit to make a newer version, and sometimes the tone or gain settings that worked on the old version don't sound great on the new one. If you want to hear how good the 30 can sound, check out Pete Thorn's demo. If you still prefer the 300, cool, but hear the 30 properly set first.

I think the competition for the mg30 is much steeper than for the mg300. The 300 is just best in class at its price range, while the 30 has to compete. It’s probably still the most budget friendly at its capability, but it’s already not a budget pedal anymore. Great comparison!
Edit: the 30 is more realistic sounding, tbf. But I think I like the 300s sound more, weirdly enough. Sounds like it’s been mixed down a bit, while the 30 sounds more raw, unedited.

in a live situation, in my opinion the mg-300 will punch mo.cause it sound louder, as if the mic is placed nearer the speaker and the mg-30 further away from the speaker ...

Excellent video ! Very well done. All bases are well covered here . I recently purchased the MG300 and am very impressed and very happy with it in every aspect of sounds and functions . I wanted a small desk top unit for my personal recordings . This unit is of even more value than I thought . Simply fantastic, and so enjoyable to use . No bad sounds like some older modelers I used to have . This machine sounds and feels so good that when I plugged back into one of my all tube Marshall amps ... It was not fun anymore . At all . I much prefer the sounds and feel of the MG 300 ! Thanks for the great informative video .

After working with the MG-300 for about 6 months I got used to some "bad habits" (like cranking up the amp Master Volume to adjust patch-levels). You can´t do that with the MG-30 as it simulates power amp section like a real amp. After getting used to adjust patch volume with the new Level knob and don´t crank up the amp Master Volume anymore, it´s as easy to create good sounds from scratch as it is with the MG-300.

But the most difference I found out afterwards is, that MG-30 handles AMP Master Volume different. Whilst MG-300 uses only one power amp, MG-30 simulates different ones like EL34, 6L6, etc. AMP Master Volume at MG-300 is more or less just a Volume knob, whilst MG-30 simulates different GAIN stages just like a real amp.

I commend you on this review. I also appreciate your speech at the start as to why your opinion will be so honest. You actually should have more subscribers. Your song selections for the amp models are fantastic. I am watching this from my tv with digital into a fairly expensive audiophile stereo setup. The first sound comparison gave a huge improvement to the mg30, then the mg300 started to sound much better, much more natural. I just wish the mg300 had a headphone output. I'd take the mg300 any day, especially for the money, and even more so if you are going into an amp. If I got into some serious recording, I might consider the mg30. I don't see an issue with using the mg300 live, you just need to secure it properly as it's a little light. Great comparison. I subscribed.
P.S. In 25 years time, people will be looking for the vintage mg300, not the mg30, mark my words.

Loads and loads of fee ir downloads available online. At home all I use is guitar into the pedal pedal out into my studio speakers and my old surface Pro plugged in just because it makes it easy to select amps and cabs pedals only because of the small display. I never use them live its always amps and my pedal board but for home use or practice with headphones its great! Thecmg-30 was just a bit much for what I want ( I'm 50 years old ) I like simple and easy ( main amp is vintage super reverb ) and the MG-300 is just that. I am afraid I made the MG-30 look bad in this video - but it's definitely not!
As it's algorithms are way more complex than the ones at the MG-300, it does not work to just use the same settings to compare both units. Whilst MG 300 uses only one amp model in the power section, MG-30 uses different models like EL34, 6L6, etc. Therefore it also creates GAIN situations at higher AMP Master Volume settings. This is the reason, why in this video most MG-30 sounds are "crunchier" than MG-300.

I'd say MG30 sounds more clear and open than 300. It's hard (or even impossible) to make a device sound clear, but it's easy to EQ to make it sound warmer/muddy. May be we hear it due to an improvement on the IR block: 1024 samples (which is still not so big, 2048 is quite enough) instead of rough 512 ones.
