I Took 600 Canisters Of Nitrous Oxide A Week: Will The Laughing Gas Ban Work? | Good Morning Britain
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 21 ส.ค. 2024
- We interviewed Kerry-Anne Donaldson, a wheelchair user due to her excessive use of Laughing Gas. Kerry recalls taking up to 600 canisters of nitrous oxide a day during the peak of her addiction, but now she welcomes the ban but fears that a law change will not be enough to stop young people from accessing the drug.
Possession of nitrous oxide with the intent to get high becomes illegal in England and Wales today. With repeat offenders facing up to two years in jail.

I'm sure making it illegal will solve the problem. After all, it has worked with other drugs. Oh, hang on....
Exactly
Legalising this won’t help. Are you aware how much kids are doing this stuff?
@@fessali5726 It is legal right now. The point is that the criminal justice system is the wrong method for managing this problem, as it has proven so catastrophically in the case of other recreational drugs.
Congratulations to drugs for winning the war on drugs 🎉😂
600 hundred of anything a week can't be good for you 😂
Mad respect for her for being honest
That expert was excellent with his info and passion and well done to the girl for speaking out.
Thank you 🙏🏾
If you ate 600 lettuces a week you’d probably end up in hospital too.
Was thinkin the same...
Though I guess if you (attempted to) smoke six hundred joints a week...
The kidd
@@gazfisher7391you would probably just end up eating your entire fridge
The difference is every single NO2 cartridge causes brain damage, cabbage don't.
Why didnt they tell us how she ended up in the wheelchair?
What was the damage to her?
💩reporting from the mainstream as per
Nerve damage from nitrous oxide is thought to occur through inactivating vitamin B12, preventing the formation of myelin on nerve cells.
I don't understand why people would take this, it doesn't make you laugh, it's a pain relief gas that reduces oxygen to your brian.
That's why it is only used in medical settings under supervision.
I know about a guy who OD'ed on them, he's 40yrs old and has now lost all mobility on his left brain. He's now disabled, it's so sad.
I tried it once and didn't see the point.
Bro its just sick
The hospital stuff had me laughing for 10 minutes
I had it in hospital while waiting for my appendectomy operation. They handed it to me in A&E and said just keep inhaling as much as you need to. All it did was make me feel sick and dizzy. Awful stuff.
I used it when I broke my shoulder on my way to ARI for X-Ray in the ambulance. Completely took my mind off the pain and had me spaced out don't remember laughing tho just extreme pain when I wasn't using it.
1 every 12 mins if awake for 17 hrs a day, which I doubt, calling b.s.
I belive it, I used to do more than that. I'd do two or three at a time just to feel anything. Like anything, you get a tolerance.
Who takes 1 in 12 minutes its more love 1 per minute or 2 minutes
The Somali community in the UK among the young are hooked on Gas Canisters, shops are selling them too like corner shops.
Stick with the sigaar waryaaa😂,nacas!😂
She had to hit rock bottom & that's the way it usually works with all addictions. 'Sick & tired of being sick & tired?' is what used to be stamped on the ceilings of cells in London cop shop back in the day
yes i will defo not stop smoking cigarettes till after i recover from the lung cancer rock bottom that it will give me

Kerry-ann (apologies if i spelt it wrong) i really hope you are able to recover properly, i understand when you say "i had to go through this to understand it and stop" as i did for a different addiction. I pray that you will be able to help others with your bravery. Thank you for speaking out. ❤
Thank you 🙏🏾, I hope your doing well now ❤

Because prohibition has never worked anywhere with anything, we definitely need more prohibition.
WHY AREN'T ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTES BANNED?THEY ARE MUCH WORSE THAN N20.
The difference is every single NO2 cartridge causes brain damage, however Alcohol and Cigarettes should be banned too.
I thought that laughing was already banned in Britain.
It's not banned but you gotta get a loicence.
@@DailyCorvid "oii, you got a loicence for that loicence m8"
When I was young it was easier to get cannabis than alcohol or cigarettes. dealers dont ask for age ID and their services are available 24/7. everyone has access to it. banning cannabis _helped me_ get hold of it. just saying.
Oh well now it's illegal everyone will stop!
It's always been banned unless you're a dinosaur or a spice head
@@bonghittaz1502 yes it was banned before i was born and yet the legal drugs alcohol and cigarettes were harder to get because they were regulated.
laughing all the way to the bank.
Good to see this in the media 👍🏽 An explanation by the doc as to how it causes damage would have made it more impactful I think.
It inactivates b12 which is very important for the nerve health. Without functioning b12 the spinal cord and peripheral nerves become damaged leading to problems with sensation, coordination and walking mainly.
Explaining this would take time on air and would also probably lead to NO users thinking that they can just supplement b12 but unfortunately that doesn't work. Some drug dealers actually give b12 to their customers but it is futile.
Now being illegal the market place for suppliers will probably expand along with a rise in price.
Will laughing gas ban work...Did any drug ban work? NO Did firearms ban work? NO Did Americans Alcohol ban work? NO so NO people will always find a way to get what they need/want
"Did firearms ban work?" Actually, yes it did. Few people in the UK own a gun.
@@RebeccaTurner-ny1xxexcept it didn't work. Because the point of the firearm ban was to prevent crime, which still happens.
Now the focus is just changed to knives.
@@RebeccaTurner-ny1xxNo it didn't there is over 978,000 illegal firearms in the UK, the ban didn't work it just heavily restricted legal guns
@@Jay-ri7lt I am happy that legal guns are restricted, as it massively reduces the availability of illegal guns. The best estimates are that the USA has about 120 guns per head of population; England & Wales have 4.6. Consequently, the USA had, in 2019, 3.96 violent gun deaths per 100,000 people; the UK had 0.04. Perhaps you'd prefer that number to rise. I would not.
(Source: Wikipedia)
@@RebeccaTurner-ny1xx Now go check the UK gun deaths per 100k before the handgun ban in 97 and semi auto ban in 87 there's barely a difference because criminals in the UK are using illegal guns not legal ones and the death per 100k is still very low compared to other countries even before the bans, USA has a different issue entirely banning guns wont solve it, criminals get guns the same way they get drugs
She took a canister ever 10 minutes for a week lol “no way!”
The ban on the face of it seems ill conceived .
Thank the Lord that's that sorted. Nobody will use it again....truth is it's now on the govt revenue stream.
I thought they would have explained how it's dangerous not just that it is.
If you have access to the BBC iplayer there's a programme there that does. Drug Map of Britain.
Prolonged and repeated use removes vitamin B12. That damages the protective coating around your spinal cord, which prevents the brain sending signals via the nervous system to the rest of the body. That can result in paralysis.
Fair enough criminalise it, but I can't believe this woman got the electric chair for sniffing nitrous oxide.
You need to take in oxygen all the time, right ? Replace the oxygen with any other gas for long enough, and your cells will die and you will be disabled.
600 is crazy
any is crazy
Sounds crazy, but I've seen my friends rinse boxes of the stuff in minutes! It's crazy how addictive it can be to some people.
@@aethellstan I agree, taking any recreational drugs, and I include Alcohol, Cigarettes etc, is crazy.
Daft people just cant use things properly or abuse it.
These people are using the canisters non stop never stopping in between the next one to get some oxygen back into the system.
Absolute whoppers
Well done for spreading awareness
I use to buzz gas when i was younger between 11 to 13 years of age, i nearly killed myself with it.

You are judging her by her past mistakes, I am judging her based upon her behaviour now.

Great girl coming on & showing the negative effects.
If its banned then how will peeps fill up their NOS canisters?
Thank you for coming our and talk about it, So others can learn from what you have been through..I pray you get well soon.
YO just did the math. 600 a week is about 7.17 whippets on the hour every hour from 9 am to 9 pm every day of the week.
Am I going to have to show ID now when I buy a can of Nestle Tip Top?
Why did she do it? That's why they say kids don't do drugs 😮
How much would 600 capsules cost ?
Gas and air gone mainstream
If it’s not available they can’t get it
It's normally £10 for 10 cannisters(so I've been told). Not being stereotypical but she doesn't look like she has £600 a week to waste.
Maybe she was a good earner before she ruined her health.
I don't know what they cost now but you could get them about 50p a cannister but then sell a balloon for £5 or three for £10 that was probably around the time she was doing it so she'd of been able to pay for it by selling them to club goers and the like
Depends if its the small ones, which it probably is. Theres no way shes going thru 600 creme deluxe litre ones 😂 unles shes got 10k to spend a week
£10 for 24
It’s actually usually £10 for 24 in a box
It must be banned. Effects are permanent
600 cannisters a week! .... No wonder. But somehow I smell BS media story.
Where do you get the money to consume 600 of those per week?

People who go to such extremes are annoying. She knew she was doing damage to her body doing so much of it. 600 a week! People like this will always find something to find a high to get addicted to.
sure but we usually try to get ppl to go for healthier addictions. like how eminem quit drugs and got obsessed with running

Ye after 10 years:
Education, education, education. The last time the nitrous craze came around was the 80’s. Rinse and repeat. We have to let business make profits. Just like all wars on drugs, each side is making money. Experts speak out, hahaha, keep your snouts in the trough. Pathetic
She knew what she was when she started using it, she didn't care less if she did she wouldn't have taken it up in the first place or at least not taken as much so she knows what she was doing, 💯 like all these teens they know
I don't think that really matters, the important thing here is trying to figure out what's causing young people to rely on these substances in the first place, and trying to resolve them. We also need to guiding young people to make better choices.
Being this unempathetic and close minded doesn't help anybody, and you'd soon change your tune if it was one of your family members.
