    Wonderful video. I am an aspiring neuropharmacologist (still in school right now) and a recreational drug user myself. This video seemed to come at a perfect time for me as I have been using nitrous oxide every now and again under the impression that I was completely safe when using proper harm reduction practices (Not inhaling straight from the dispenser, spacing out my use, and taking B12 supplements for a few days after each use). Impurities were actually a possibility that had crossed my mind as a potential hazard before, as I had heard about black residue coming from cheap brands, but I had not heard of any such things occurring in the supposed high quality ISI brand of chargers, and the nanoparticles are a new and scary piece of information. Safe to say I will not be using nitrous any more after watching this video unless I can source a medical grade tank for myself. Thank you for keeping me safe.

      Moreover: How much risk do you believe that short periods of heavy use (~100 in a day) followed by longer periods of abstinence (~1 month) poses? I have been using in that way for about two years now and noticed very minimal negative effects. The only one being that my respiratory system would feel more sensitive and I would be more prone to coughing for a few days after each use, but those symptoms would quickly subside.

      @@PTETdorf It is very difficult to say what the real risk is. Also, the study in question did not study the impurities of all available brands. The video is more about demonstrating the possibility of a risk. Speculatively, short periods of heavy use are likely to be more damaging in the sense that there's the possibility of rapid build up of significant levels of impurities. However, it is unclear how much impurities would actually reach the lungs - most of it likely stick to the sides of the siphon, some end up in the walls of the balloon, and perhaps some find their way to the lungs.

    As usual, nobody would be doing any of this if the safer alternative was legally available. Thanks drug war, you've gone so far as to make even harmless drugs harmful because only the holy alcohol can be allowed to inoxicate people.

      Even opioids taken responsibly can significantly improve the life of a person with intractable pain. Carefully managed they can give a person their life back. Yet the DEA needing a win sacrificed a lot of us and left us with no alternatives. Cannabis is not a great alternative for most of us even in legal States.

      I agree and disagree at same time. If I was an alcoholic, would I stop drinking if I had access to ambient, Valium, and Xanax? Probably not. Yet they are a safer addiction on body then alcohol. I suppose and alcoholic who has liver disease might be willing to make switch to pills, yet they won’t give you much. I know there is a company that offers Baclofen for alcoholics. Don’t know if they are still in business.

    If you absolutely must use whippets, use the Ultra Pure brand. They have the least amount of oils and other impurities of any other brand.

    • @DabManTrips
      @DabManTrips 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      seems to be used as sealant and probably an impurity from the machine manufacturing process of filling the cartridges. However seems like isothiocyanates are also naturally found in vegetables and are anticancerous.

    Interesting, I wasn't aware that the low levels of contaminants would affect the respiratory system. The nano-particles of metals are not something I'd thought of, I imagine it's more serious for chronic users but still not ideal.

    • @Neuropharmacist
      @Neuropharmacist  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It remains unclear whether this is a significant concern, but with chronic high dose use it remains plausible that one could do some damage to their lungs. Nevertheless, for many people even the possibility of inhaling these chemicals and metal particles is not very appealing.

      Some people develop strange side-effects, but I doubt they are permanent. Steve-o seems alright now considering how much nitrous he was using in the past. Not heard much about impurities however, he was mostly using lab grade nitrous oxide but there's footage of him wandering around in knee-deep empty whippet canisters.

    Very informative video, thank you for posting! Until recently there has been little research into the abuse of nitrous, but I hear the problem is only getting worse. I wonder if most of the metal particles are coming from the top of the whippet, where it is punctured to release the gas? They are also selling larger tanks now such as Exotic Whip (equal to nearly 100 whippets each), but they have a valve to release the gas instead. I wonder if the same nano-particles would be present in the larger tanks?

    • @Neuropharmacist
      @Neuropharmacist  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It is unlikely that the impurities would be present in tanks with valves. However, unless they are medical grade, there are no guarantees.
