    Been refereeing a year and a half every week. This is very helpful. Dont be depressed about the haters. You are giving wonderful instruction and pointers.

      wearewon thank you, we never get upset with any negative comments. If anyone anywhere wants to be filmed doing a prematch at any level we would love to update or show other people’s techniques. It’s comments like yours that make it worth while.

    I have my first final tomorrow and my first official team to brief
    More nervous about the brief than the game !
    Taking my notes from this, very halpful

    I was always told (as a former ref) the game is about man management and that starts with your 'own' team before you manage the two teams in the game. I thought was an excellent pre match briefing 👍👍

    Very helpful video- I am refereeing with neutral assistants for the first time tomorrow and it is nice to have a refresher in what to say beforehand.

      From which category you start to referee with neutral assistants?

    Most people in the comments are saying that there was too much information... I strongly disagree, this is quite a good routine, but for me personally, I'd totally include a "misconduct behind referee's back" section as well... All in all though, this was a decent pre-match discussion...

    I agree it's a long pre match but see it as box of chocolates, you pick and choose the bits that suit you, the game, your team. You can use it if its not in the video.

    Way too long as a pre match for me, I try keep it 2-3 minutes max. I find that my assistants tend to get tired of hearing the same thing week in week out and zone out of the conversation after 3 to 4 minutes.

      Tom Fennelly horses for courses important that you build your team. Can’t do that in 2/3 minutes

      I agree Tom, but i think the purpose was to inform inexperienced refs watching. i thought he (Andy?) was very informative with some good tips e.g. if its a throw and your both not sure always go defending team . Another one courtesy of Jamaal Horne....Wrong and Strong!

      @@stuartbradley4896I can also appreciate the part where he states that if both don’t know who kicked it out, it goes for the defender.
      Informative and this is what will help referees grow.

    Fantastic pre-game, took lot of notes. Obviously to each their own, and depends a bit on the level of match to ensure everything is clear and tidy. I do all my refereeing at youth games where the pre-game is very short, but personally I'm usually rather like adding to my pregame spiel w/ players, coaches and crew because it makes the whole thing feel better, more professional vs. just picking up a quick check. Just my 2 cents.
    With players too, I had centers doing literally nothing except say "Don't forget shin guards" and proceed to the check-in. But when I'm the center, a good speech clarifying things like playing advantage, playing fair, keep things safe, no foul language etc. and how to do a substitution proper helps manage the game. Same with coaches.
    For example, even if brief, I'll mention to not dissent my decisions, be respectful towards your opponents. So when a situation arises in the game, I can actually say "hey, we talked about that before the game, you're letting me down here". Esp. at youth level, that often helps, in my opinion/experience.

    Your always talking to the "senior official" which talking and the "junior" is walking behind.. he's bored already.. stop, form a triangle and ask your assistants questions so they understand.. you don't need to walk the pitch as you've already inspected it before giving your match instructions

    • @Clarkiesball
      @Clarkiesball 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave White thanks Dave for your observations, yes it did look like that, the angle of the camera did not help. We chose this way as the weather dictated it was beneficial to do pre match, and field of play inspection at the same time, why would you not? This was done in one take no rehearsal no crib sheet, if possible I always do my premature outside on the FOP. This is one hour before kick off, and it works for me..

    Very informative but not sure why the ref would not make a note of goalscorers. I always try to make a note of everything important and then use one or both of the assistants to validate at H-T and F-T.

    • @takyno

      Me personally, I ask one of my ARs to have the eyes on the players at all times... For example, when cautioning a player I write down the notes and ask the AR closer to me to write it down as well... The AR on the far side is responsible for checking on the players, since he/she is the one who sees the overall picture... So with goals, I write them down as the referee and both ARs are responsible for watching the rest of the situation - a lot of things might happen behind the referee's back at this point, therefore after a goal I assign this duty to my ARs when I'm the one writing notes...

    • @robertriver786
      @robertriver786 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally tell both ARs to watch the players after a goal. I do watch the players briefly after a goal and I write down the player's # that scored, then I tell the ARs who scored at halftime and after the game. I don't want my ARs marking down who scored right after te goal, but instead to be watching the players for any misconduct.
