    Did the team take travel/articulation measurements with the factory suspension? How about with the aftermarket? Seems shortsighted to throw the most expensive suspension there is at it without measuring anything before & after.

    It's got to be nice working on a brand new truck. No rust issues to deal with and nice and clean. I live in upstate NY and used to own an FJ Cruiser. I bought it new and after the first winter I started with suspension and that quick the upper steering knuckle nuts started rounding off and I ended up unbolting the two lower ball joint bolts instead.

    did you have any rubbing issues with 35" tires? Mine are rubbing at full lock on the ICON Tubular UCA or Spindle.... no rubbing anywhere else. I have the ICON 3.0 CDCV suspension... otherwise it's fantastic!

    • @Tanner_Johnson
      @Tanner_Johnson ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We found that the offset of the new tundra in Sequoia is different so the current Toyota offset wheels that we were running with a 0 Offset Stuck Way out, which did cause rubbing. We worked with icon to create a negative offset wheel that allows the tire to sit flush in the wheel well and eliminated any rubbing for us.

    I love the look of the new Sequoia inside and out, but it stops there... I'm sure XO is going to sugarcoat and not comment harshly on the high dollar Sequoia they were given. I find it interesting they are LOVING a vehicle that they replaced the wheels, tires, suspension, brakes, bumpers, and removed the third row seat (the very thing that people buy a Sequoia for). Here are my gripes: For a $70k+ vehicle it feels cheep. It has less interior space then the competition and also the previous version. The 2nd row seats are less adjustable then the competition and previous version (they don't slide and can't be tumbed separately). It has less cargo space then the competition and previous version. It lacks an AWD setting like the previous version (competition offers auto 4wd). Real world fuel economy is about 15mpg! The long term reliability and cost of ownership will be much worse then the previous version because of the turbos and hybrid system. Toyota has lost touch with their roots. What happened to simple and reliable?

      @@JimmyDevere You seem to be a person that needs to find things out for yourself. Look into what average mpgs people are actually getting in the Tundra and Sequoia hybrids. Not sure where you came up with 30% savings? What Landcruiser are you referring to? 200 series? 300 series? Or maybe the LX 600? Sequoia lacks many things the Landcruiser offers, i.e., real leather, full-time 4wd, KDSS or AHC, turn assist, front locker (300 series), and better offroad dimensions! My thought is that when you want a Landcruiser, the Sequoia misses the bar. And when you want something to move families around like the old Sequoia or any of the full-size competition, again, the new Sequoia misses the bar.
      If you want an expensive, really fast, oversized 4runner, with a small cargo area, the new Sequoia is for you!

    • @brianh5393
      @brianh5393 ปีที่แล้ว

      @brianh5393 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimmyDevere I don't think you get it. The average msrp increase for the 2022 to 2023 Sequoia is about $6000. Even with a 5mpg gain, it will take 100k miles to break even at $3.50 per gal pump price. The numbers are always changing, but I hope you are tracking with me.
      The hybrid battery in most US states has an 8yr 100k mi. warranty. With an estimated replacement cost of $4k. So if you are stuck with an out of warranty battery repair, it will take another 69k mi. to break even again.
      Now add in the increased purchase tax, registration, insurance, and financing interest, for the 2022 vs 2023 Sequoia. In the end your paying more and not saving enough at the pump to justify it. Meanwhile the government laughing their way to the bank because they forced the car manufacturers to meet fuel efficiency regulations and are now collecting more taxes because of it!
      If you want a new Tundra or Sequoia iforce max then buy it. You might be able to better justify the purchase, but it's not saving you any money in the long run. I would more compare the iforce max to a supercharged V8. It's a luxury!
      Back to my original point. The New Sequoia is missing out on the demographic of the outgoing Sequoia. Other manufacturers have stayed true to their demographic. For Toyota's sake, I hope they choose wisely. For my sake, I'm disappointed!

    • @brianh5393
      @brianh5393 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimmyDevere That's the problem. Toyota didn't offer the new Landcruiser in the US. And the Sequoia is a poor replacement. That's why I don't consider the Sequoia to be a cheaper Landcruiser.

      27 yrs of Toyota SUVs 4runner, J80, 07 Sequoia. The Sequoia was my favorite but looking for a new replacement I felt like the new Sequoia was a huge miss. And in our region Toyota dealers have marked up all their vehicles $8000+ or more. No thanks. I have 50,000miles on my Platinum heavy tow fully loaded Expedition which was $72,000 final deal cost. Its been an awesome rig can honestly say I probably won’t ever own Toyota again. Their design updates have been too far behind yrs behind, add the insane dealer scalping price no thanks..
      The Expedition has been rock solid big road trips 22-23mpg tank averages on 3peak rated BFGs is pretty much the norm. The brutal local kid sports shuttling around town is a solid 16-17mpg tank average. My old Sequoia was 12-13mpg in town and 15-16mpg big road trips. It was definitely superior to the old J80 in many ways but still a fuel pig.
      These bigger SUVs aren’t jeeps so not kidding my self that your doing jeep trails. But the muddy, snowy, logging road to a trail head or camp spot is easily doable with good tires in any of these rigs.

      Nice thing is that all it does is electronically change the compression setting vs the manual knob on the old versions. That’s all. If it were to fail it just defaults where it’s at. There’s nothing that can fail to prevent the shock from working at all

    • @daniels2761
      @daniels2761 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard the XO team talk repeatedly about it being important to set up the vehicle properly, even how they dislike airbags because a properly set up vehicle shouldn't need them. Seems hypocritical to throw on a shock with on-the-fly electronic valving adjustments.

    I think those Icon suspension kits are a huge waste. I've seen guys with good ol' Bilstein 5100s or similar go everywhere that the overly complex/expensive Icon suspension guys went too, while being far more reliable and cheaper. Never has suspension been a make or break where Expedition Overland goes not you are rock climbing.

    We were all in for a new Sequoia to add to our Toyota fleet but no straight gas killed it. It's not like you can even fix it out in the bush anyway........
    Adventurous types we don't buy our vehicles for MPG it's not miles per gallon it's memories and smiles per gallon
    You know it's like what they've done with the Land Cruiser in North America. It's such a disappointment you can't even buy one and who would want to buy one for over 100k. Can't really build a 200, real lift 3" real tires, come on Toyota bring us the candy from. Across the world!!!
    Here in North America we miss out on so much amazing things Toyota has to offer around the world. I have a fully built 98 Tacoma, 97 Land Cruiser, mildly built 2007 Tundra and 2007 Sequoia. I Say this because if Toyota is reading this I want them to know that a lot of us are die-hard Toyota purests and believers.
    Come on Toyota offer a diesel in the Tacoma, 4runner, Tundra, and Sequoia. You would dominate the market unlike ever before!
    Also, I know it's a long shot but if Toyota brought in a 79 series diesel I would be the first in line!
    I know I sound like I'm complaining and that's not my normal MO, we are just frustrated we're going to pass on the Sequoia when we were so excited to get it.
    Super appreciate your content love your channel love your adventures you guys inspire me to pack the family up in the Land Cruiser and go make memories.
    XOverland also inspired me to start with a little TH-cam for adventures and Instagram for the 1997 80 Series (The Mistress) Build and Adventures.
    Thank You!

      You're complaining about models not being available in NA... In the UK we can't buy a 4Runner, Sequoia, Tundra, or Tacoma... I could go on

      It's hybrid assist, not an EV. No plug in to worry about. I'd prefer to see an all gas option as well, but it's not like you'll be stranded. I think Toyota was right to put off adding hybrid tech to their off road vehicles and let the Prius and rest of the product line sort it out first. I hope it lasts for 200k+...if anyone will get it right it's Toyota. (Sent from my 218k mile daily driven 2UZ...)

      @@jakesteve5803 I understand that it's a hybrid it's certainly not for me, I'll stick to my late 1990s early 2000's Toyotas

    Blaspheme! So sad to have sacrificed the venerable off-road/overlander Landcruiser for Sequoia in North America. Not to slam the Sequoia for what it is - a rugged family hauler, but Toyota decontented the Sequoia rear hatch and got rid of the power rear window. Tired of Toyota trying to promote this as an alternative to their flagship that they poorly marketed/supported in this hemisphere for more than a decade before dumping it due to poor sales…. Might as well add an AWD Sienna to the fleet.

      If you remove the Landcruiser name, what really are the differences? They share a lot of the same components. The modern LC is IFS, body on frame, same engine, trans, transfer case. The Sequoia is bigger but the LC is not exactly nimble and light either. If somebody wants a smaller Toyota, there are other options. I won't miss the modern LC.

    Shame it's a hybrid. I know Toyota makes a good hybrid, but its extremely overcomplicated for only a couple mpg over what Sequoias got 15 years ago when they had a V8.This hybrid system is not something I'd want to be worrying about having to deal with or fix off-grid.

    As a firefighter I would never have a EV, they are dangerous as hell. If they catch fire (which they often do) you cannot put that fire out hardly and if you do put it out the odds are it will reignite, probably several times. Many auto wrecking yards will not even take them because of the fire danger.

      It is NiMH and not a lithium based battery ; much less volatile and cheaper to replace by a large margin. Plus they are small and take charge discharge cycles better. Additionally, they been in Prius for over two decades with no problems.
