His point being by the time he was 29/30 he seemed to drop off the face of the earth and hasn't held down a No1 spot at a top club ever since
Because he was hyped up to be the next bing thing in goal. He was supposed to reach the same level as the liked of Neuer, Buffon, Casillas, etc. but in reality he was just an average keeper.
Being overhyped does not only include failed wonderkids, but it can also include players who were supposed to reach much higher levels.
Take Neymar for example, he is one of my favorite players ever, but in the grand scheme of things, regardless of his actual technical ability he is overhyped.

That Joe Hart shout is fucking abysmal. The guy is probably England’s best goalie of the last 20 years. Multiple Golden Gloves, 2 prems, FA Cup… cant have wasted your potential if you were at one point the best GK in a top 5 league and winning trophies. He’s still going too, won 2 titles in Scotland, with Celtic, as the No.1 keeper. Mental, imo, that they mentioned Butland but decided that Hart was the better candidate for “wasted potential”??? Jack butland is twice the keeper that joe hart is right now. He’s literally been the most impactful player in Scotland this season, meanwhile Celtic fans have wanted joe hart out the past couple seasons.

I’m not arguing their impact right now I’m making an observation of their careers (which you have to do in a “Wasted Potential XI”) and the fact remains Hart has had 10x the career Butland has. Also, Butland fits the bill much better because I’m pretty sure he was touted to be the next big thing and in the grand scheme of both their careers he’s definitely had a “worse” one. Butland’s been class for Rangers but his career hasn’t been the level of Hart’s. I wasn’t trying to make it a “Celtic vs. Rangers” thing, I was just pointing out that them mentioning Butland but deciding on Hart is (as I said), imo, mental. Hart’s potential was much more fulfilled than Butland’s (granted he is 6 years younger so still has a lot of time barring injury). 1 good season for Rangers doesn’t stack up to 4 Golden Gloves and multiple titles.
