    Solo skiff owner here down in Galveston area. I have quite a few videos on my channel on it and I have to say since being spoiled with the motor and able to hit multiple spots in one trip and then boogie back to the launch there’s no turning back for me. Like you said once in skinny areas I paddle around no problem and have mounted a power pole to make it even easier to stop on a spot and then resume the paddle. It does take a little getting used to and your gear organized the way you want it but once set up it’s a dream. I’m glad you were able to get on one and try it out. I enjoy your videos. Tight lines.

      Also a motor is just more ethical if your an angler paddling takes to much time and energy you can hit way more spots way faster with a boat ,that's why I barley use my kayak anymore lol

    I have a 2.5 mercury outboard and if you don't go full speed you can get 4 hours run time on 32 ounces of gas

    When I was a kid you could get a small aluminum boat rated for a 5-horse motor that had at least three times as much room inside and would be easily car-top-able with a weight somewhere around 80 pounds. I still have the one my dad owned and I can easily carry it from car to launch site on my back like a canoe. This boat looks recoverable in the event of a capsize, and that is a consideration for ocean fishing, but I'm not sure if that's by design or because roto-molding (with the resulting air chambers that take up so much volume) is the only method by which you can make a plastic boat that's reasonably stiff. Anyway, times change. It looks pretty neat, overall.

    I’ve been looking at these things pretty hard since I sold my Jackson Big Rig. Since I’m a big fella, I’ve just been lurking to see if there’s any reviews on how it handles with a bigger guy. I’m all about ease and comfort. Glad to see you guys back home in Texas.

    They’re cool little boats. I loved mine when I had it. It would get in extremely shallow and polled easily. Takes some getting used to but they beat kayak fishing in my opinion.

    • @Hardballleather
      @Hardballleather 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why did you get rid of it?

    • @Ellopez05
      @Ellopez05 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Reelist I got rid of it for the same reasons I first got it. It was a one man boat, and at first it’s what drew me to it, but then i wanted to take my wife, dad, or brother in law with me. I ended up selling it and got a Skimmer Skiff 14’ 6”. If I had enough room in my garage i would’ve kept it. I carried mine in the back of my Tacoma with a hitch extender and I could launch from anywhere. I found a lot of new fishing spots with that thing. My new boat is too pretty to bang up and mistreat so I mostly drift or pole it over flats lol.

    I would put the 9.9hp on it you dont always have to use all that power but to get away from a storm or a boat it might come in handy and can swap the 15hp carb on the 9.9 and turns it into a 15 but with the weight of the 9.9. The 9.9hp are just de tuned 15hp

    • @naturesfinest4218
      @naturesfinest4218 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for that bit of knowledge. I had no clue that could be done and you'd probably save a good bit of money by trickin out the 9.9 over buying the 15!

    Aloha, I have a Solo Skiff here in Hawai'i with a 6hp. Tohatsu but I haven't been able to make any speed runs because the motor is not broken in yet. My buddy here bought one on same day as me but he got his motor a 6hp Yamaha broken in and doing 20 mph on his GPS. Don't know how accurate his GPS is but it is still impressive nonetheless. I'm 50 pounds heavier than him so if I make 16 mph I'll be happy.

    Thanks for your videos. Finally put my skiff in the water for the first time Friday. Have to learn how to adjust the height of my 6hp Tohatsu. Have you added a fish finder yet? If so, how did you handle the transducer mounting? Thanks for the tip that less is more. I did mighty mounts with 3 Zuka Tubes and that’s it.

    If you can find one, take a serious look at a 1981-1992 Coleman Scanoe. A cross between skiff and canoe, 40 in. wide in the middle, 15 ft 10 in. long with a square stern, weighs a mere 90 lbs.. They are rated for 5 HP, but run fine with a 4 HP and/or a trolling motor. The plastic "Ram-X" body is very tough, and the three skegs give it directional stability. ( A liability on small rivers and streams with sharp turns ...when paddling in those situations, compared to a smooth bottom canoe, it feels like a barge. ) It can carry three people with the optional middle seat. Later models were longer by a foot, and heavier, by 20 lbs..

    Nice video! They sure are nifty boats and about the same cost as a 14 foot V hull. I'm not certain how they are better than the v hull fishing boats which have fallen out of favor, except that they are quieter and they may pole a better.
