Hey guys. A lot of support from you on this video. Thanks for that as I've taken a lot of heat from the developer on this in an attempt to discredit me and the video. I tried to get a response from the dev on a comprehensive list of problems. The short of that conversation (and it wasn't short) is that its either Asabos issue, or not a big deal or that I was biased and unfair (< I'm being kind). The developer just released a statement that v1.2 is being released with the following fixes that if nothing else confirms the issues I experienced were not hyperbole. I think what pleases me most is that the majority of you guys didn't question the credibility of the review even though the format was out of character, and for that I thank you. This only reinforces my fortitude towards ensuring I'm as honest in my review as my capabilities allow, to bring you guys the first look at aircraft as they are released. Note: None of the below have been confirmed fixed, this is only the developer's changelog. v1.2 updates: - Fuel selector knob - re-animated and corrected to Main-Off-Aux - Engine Starter - fixed, true “Cold and Dark” operation now works - Amphibian - fitted gear switch and indicator lamps - Switches - flipped to standard configuration (UP = ON) - Prop Torque - was a little too high, now correct - Lighting Issues - L/R fuel tank indicators and radio digits now work - Panel floods - Correct Red and or White floodlighting - Mirror - fixed, now reflective - Flap Drag - Improved, much more draggy at 60% - Panel Colour - Changed to green as quite a few appear as such

But when being berated by the developer and friends for not reporting these problems to them directly, S. @@NOTAM1 Oh please tell me they read the comments section? 😂🤣🤦♂️Absolutely brilliant. Your work is done. Look at the list of fixes. Its nearly as long as the one Asobo had to deal with after first release. And that was a whole brand new sim. This is one little aircraft. At £35/$40 I might add. You have achieved something no one could during the FSX era, and that is to get Blackbox Simulations to break cover. When they used to bring out shiny turds before, they stayed silent. You managed to rattle the cage. Lets be clear. What you have done here is show the many flaws to the public. The paying public, who might be brand new to flight sim, and have no idea that these are actual errors. This isn't good for the community at large, and to Microsoft/Asobo. You were perfectly within your right to do so, as a paying customer and reviewer. 👍
@@MrBillUp Thanks Chris, makes me feel a bit better about the whole ordeal, some of the back and forth and actions on the forums were not very nice, and i'm not particularly proud of every response I had there, but when I saw him doing fake reviews and digging a deeper hole it just got under my skin. In the end if the result is that he fixes the model, then I think it was a good result. Hopefully he realizes its a different time, and you can't get away with this crap as easily. Thanks again!
@@DustyWall since then I have landed on water. so far 50/50. No explanation from dev what happened first time. He wants me to just "press ctrl+e and fly this fun little bird". I'm tired of loading and crashing. I'll give it another visit after a few updates.
I don't think I will waste even one dollar on this thing. It feels like it's a couple of boys trying to scam their way to some money. Very good with this review, to avoid wasting money on this thing. Thnx.
This is the classic Goldrush phase of a new sim. Everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon, and sell their stuff, before the big names come in. When they turn up, these types of releases will either stop, or be forced to go out dirt cheap. They hope to get away with this because of the lack of competition.
Yeah I believe you're correct. The only reason I bought the kit fox was because I saw a review of one of their other versions of the kit fox which looked good for X-Plane 11. Then when I got the Microsoft version, all those good things in the model had been removed for some reason and you know the rest.
Just like the Carenado 182, I know not too long down the road a2a will be releasing their AccuSim 182. So I'll be saving my money for when this drops. Unfortunately for new players to flight sims, they don't know this, and this is where the vultures like Blackbox Simulations step in and hoover up some cash. I want MSFS 2020 to be as successful as possible, so I hope that companies that are only in it for a quick buck, get the treatment they deserve, and f*** off sharpish.
Alarm bells went off when Asobo announced that they had signed up 700-800 developers... I can think of about 6-7 professional quality aircraft devs, and about 5-6 top quality airport devs. That's a staggering amount of garbage that we're going to have to sift through in the marketplace.
@@ravenn22 I'm not concerned as we have reviewers to sift through the dreck, hey David 😂 In all honesty, I know who is worth buying from, and who isn't. On the negative side, new players don't, and it is down to the reviewers to take one for the team.

I've owned this aircraft for many months... It's been a joy to operate and fly totally trouble free (all three variants).....All systems work including radio navigation.... I'm not sure about your negativity from the start of your presentation, this aircraft simply doesn't deserve your appraisal....I also own 3 other Black Box aircraft, they are all as close to a realistic flight experience as I feel MSFS 2020 can give... Good lord, the Sibwings Bird Dog from 10+ years ago in FSX blows this out of the water. Thanks for this honest review. It's early days in the MSFS lifespan and we need as much candor and lack of bias in reviews as possible. Yours has rapidly become my favorite review channel & I wish you all the best going forward!
Hey mate, Just wanted to also extend my support and admiration for releasing a truly honest review..it speaks volumes for you and your channel. At the end of the day, as they say, 'The proof is in the pudding'.. I chuckle when I hear about developers trying to defend a product which we can all SEE is horrible. In this day and age of simulation, this isn't just bad. It's unnaceptable. I also intentionally write this here.. because I hope that those same devs come and read the comments. Keep up the great work, Ill be spreading the word about your channel!

Just finished responding to another reviewer who was "wishing he could have reviewed the L-19" and that if he could get a copy from the dev "I'm sure I'd like it". I can't believe people will sell their integrity for $30 usd. I told him he could review... its for sale on BBS.
@@NOTAM1 Exactly.. The reality is.. there's so many people out there, reviewers alike, who really just don't have an eye for it. I think 3rd party guys are in for a rude awakening to the level that we now expect, terrible, ugly, low res screws?! lol madness what trash! Sorry to say it but it is the worst official release of a 3rd party plane currently on the store.
So far it's not on the official store. Hopefully for everyone's sakes it never will be in this state. The kitfox was bad enough but this would really bring down already slippery standards there.

@@NOTAM1 LOL....his small following consists of a group who clearly don't know this developer...his history, nor how he will continue to try and drop straight FSX ports into MSFS and charge the ridiculous amount he is...knowing that there is a new crop of "simmers" who are unaware of his business model. The saddest part is that his previous company (PSS) in its day and the version of the sim we were on, was one of the best for the Airbus and 777...it was when he suddenly closed shop, and the security software that needed links to his servers to keep the aircraft functioning died with the company, and all those customers were left with products they could not use....is where it all went downhill from there. After a few years, they finally got the servers back online, but on the BBS site under PSS, you'll see you just have to pay a modest 4 euros to get access to your purchases back. You can't get to the page from the BBS front page...but that's to be expected since the commerce page is such a mess. Anyway....your review of this rubbish was spot on. How he comes on to the forums and brags how he fixes things makes me want to puke, like he thinks its more important to fix things that never should have made into the commercial release, than to have fixed them before unleashing it onto unsuspecting customers who have to start their $29 US addon with the Mag switch....even after he "patched" it because his shoddy coding fixed one thing...but broke another. I'd say his beta team would have caught that before release...but his beta team consists of folks who paid for the plane, and are expected to report issues....even blatantly silly ones...back to him...so he can look like a hero and patch them immediately to show all the naysayers how responsive he is to his customers. Like others have already posted...thanks for taking the bullet on this one. There was no way I was buying anything from him, based just on principle, and certainly after seeing how bad this is...compared to a similarly priced Mooney....which is outstanding compared to the Birddog.
Thanks for the honest review, NOTAM. I'd be pretty angry if reviewers just soft peddled these issues in an effort to avoid the heat or to simply suck up to the developers. Thanks for laying it out straight so I don't shell out the big bucks and then get the lazy surprise.

Thank you for taking one for the Team and shelling 40 big ones for this, all us northerners thank you. I now believe that MSFS does not check these things before they enter the marketplace. The ending was classic.
I think they got this out fast probably knowing that a lot of people are looking for float planes. After spending thousands of dollars on add-ons for FSX, P3D and X-Plane, I will surely be more careful and selective in MSFS 2020. BTW thanks for the review.
Keep it up! A simple response from BlackBox along the lines "you're right, we'll be working to fix all of this to try to provide great value in this new sim" would have been a much better response from the publisher, and would probably have sold more copies of the turd while they try to fix it. Now their reputation and of this release is tainted and it will be much harder to recover.
Thanks John. Seems I'm not alone. The realization hit when seeing his facebook page (Blackbox Sim.) and getting into fights with customers over concerns. Very strange. Its been one of the strangest interactions I've ever had with a company.
I’ve heard some bad stories about their airbus addons for P3D. Now this doesn’t sound too good either. I wonder how the Microsoft devs allow this in their store? Don’t they check it?
Adding a more up to date comment here - Seems like they have fixed most of these issues - mine is working great, but then again, I just bought it. Some issues remain, but its now seeming like its worth the money.
Thanks for making this. People need to see how awful BBS is. In my experiences as a repainter for their Airbus series, BBS has been nothing but aggressive and dismissive of their faults. I can bet you this plane will be in "beta" like their Airbus series (now over ~4 years?) with no end in sight. PSA to all viewers: don't buy BBS. They don't finish their work, charge ridiculously for it, and in my experience, have never been open to feedback.
@@NOTAM1 don't let it get to you. Those guys have a history of doing that. They've got a small group of fans who keep waiting for their work, clinging onto the illusion that they will provide that once great quality they had during the PSS era, but I don't think they've kept up with modern addons. Sad, but that's the reality with BBS.

I honestly predicted that ending. What would be more perfect than figuring out that the amphibious configuration just "crashes" when it touches the water.
lol, its funny because it scared the $#it out of me when it happened, mostly frustration and a break with a drink, but it wasn't till I came back and watched the footage that I realized it couldn't have been better. It perfectly summed how I felt at the end of that frustrating 5 hour review.

@@NOTAM1 Yeah, it's no Moony. lol. THAT plane is one of the best I think so far in the sim. It really is amazing, I think its even better than what you said in your review! I'm flying in 4K as well, and this thing is just wonderful. I have been doing well with it. Got everything to work well, did a nice ILS landing with it. So cool. Let me ask you.. the two com's below the Garmin unit.. the one on the left is the NAV, where I can also switch between standby and active etc. Then, there is the same thing in the little com box to the left (both are in the same unit). I thought, at first this was for the radio com.. but, it turns out that is done on the Garmin unit. So.. what is that for then?

WAY better than the stock ATC :-) If you decided to try it, let me know and I can help you with it.

I agree, the graphics are an embarrassment. This was a great bird in FSX produced by another dev whose name escapes me. I bought the Blackbox version for P3d and I only flew it once, a big disappointment and as you say, I suspect this was the same model which has been ported across. Thanks for the video, because I was originally considering buying this bird. You effectively confirmned my initial thoughts.

I knew the flight sim community was full of scammers, but it's unfortunate to see all of them coming to MSFS first before the legit plane makers. Hopefully Microsoft will institute some sort of standards before letting just anyone sell garbage in the marketplace. But this and the crappy KitFox makes me really discouraged for the future.
Wow I wasn't expecting the ending, thank god they "fitted the gear lever" in their patch notes... surely that wasn't supposed to be in release. Wow. And it can't even land on water?? Daily reminder this costs more than some DCS modules...
Exactly (re: DCS) this thing has a handful of working switches and none of them are complex. Mostly just light on/off. IMO, this was just released too early to take advantage of a hungry market.

Totally agree. I wish the dev priced this at $10 and was just honest with the community about being a work in progress. People would have bought it knowing that and enjoyed the journey with them.
Visually it looks a little better than the average payware X-Plane aircraft ( which is a pretty low bar to set ) and seems to have a similar amount of bugs.
I got excited for an amphib. Saw it was released this morning. I bought it, jumped in, and nearly puked when I saw the interior. I was like, it's ok, let's go do some power off stalls, and land in a river. I spent probably 5 minutes looking for the water rudder, gave up, and looked for the key binding. Welp, that doesn't work, either. Just disappointment after disappointment.
That's so sad, like you said the Icon doesn't make me enjoying the floatplane stuff and I was so glad to see a real floatplane release and now it turns out to be a bummer. Nice video though and maybe with crashdetection off you still can land
@@NOTAM1 I see they just released a patch, maybe it is less worse now :-) It's € 25, - in my region, still consider buying, with all settings on arcade style I can see me hopping around the misty moorings fjords with it. But maybe there will be a better floatplane in the future by an other 3rd party, doubts doubts...

@@NOTAM1 Please post an update with crash detect off (or please post a message.) I usually have it turned of solely because of the insane load times. I can tell if I had a terrible landing, I just don't want to wait 5-10 mins to get back up in the air if I auger in. I just want a real float plane that flies and floats nicely. I'll even put up with the crappy interior if it handles well on the water. I'm holding out hope that someone will create a De Havilland Beaver.
Thank you for your work on this, you know the only time anyone has to get defensive is when they know you are telling the truth. No one has to defend things they believe in so the fact that they spent the time to try and discredit you makes it even worse. I will never, upon this principle alone, spend a cent with them because of how they treated you. You represent us and if a plane is this crap and you treat the guy who made an in-depth look into it badly well ... let's just say you ain't surviving as a developer sorry.
Well said Conf.Dad, thanks for this. I far from perfect like the next person but I try to re-evaluate my actions when necessary and I must admit this whole thing just left a sour taste in my mouth. Spend 5 minutes on Blackbox Simulations Facebook page and I realized I'm not unique in how this developer has treated his customers. I'm done reaching out to him for comment or to help. He's made his bed IMO and it's too bad because ultimately, I'm just hoping he fixes his product for however many other people have purchased it. Thaks for you comment.
At some point I asked myself: What is this round thing supposed to be on the right above the instrument panel? A mirror? In the original photos it was clear: It is a mirror. Shouldn't you see something there? ;-)

lol, its very frustrating isn't it. You end up second guessing every step even though you are familiar with all of these systems. Developer doesn't think its a big deal, but they've wasted a lot of my time. Much more time than their product was even worth.
That's very subjective. There are still a lot of issues that may or may not ruin your experience. I can say with confidence that it is not on par with other $40 models like the Mooney. I can also say that its great the developer is trying to fix these issues. The interior has not changed, many things have been fixed. I did a review on v1.2 here th-cam.com/video/nXaDpKyof-8/w-d-xo.html That can provide some context to the newest version which isn't much different from the v1.2 review. Important to note is that the problems in this review that prevented me from flying the aircraft at all have seemingly been resolved. I didn't have frozen or invisible aircraft in v1.2. Black box is the most awful developer out there, any time you purchase their products your just handing them money for nothing but broken products in return. Great review, anyone who watches this and actually buys this has been fully warned about this company.

Good review. You paid for it, it is your full right to review it as A CUSTOMER. By the way I bought the Kitfox on the FS2020 boutique about 12$ CDN. Whit the liveries with flags, it looks like the one of Trent Palmer. Its cheap, but result is cheap in my opinion... but I am not a pilot neither an experienced simmer, but It seems to never stop to fly when landing... lol... flaps of one notch only 6 % ??? No drag produced here... Tell me what you thing please! I would love to see one with all the mod of the Trent Palmers's Kitfox!

a float plane is also called a pontoon plane when in this configuration which differentiates it from floatplanes who use their hull as the surface which contacts the water. In this case, the plane has two pontoons.
@@NOTAM1 Sorry but no. Floatplane describes an aeroplane equipped with floats. An aircraft whose hull provides the planing surface and buoyancy is called a seaplane. A pontoon in this context is a dock. Yes, the term pontoon plane is sometimes seen but in real world aviation, the terms floatplane and seaplane are the accepted terms.

BlackBox Simulations have always been the laughing stock of the flight sim community for their cheap shit. Only this time they seem to think the hard core flight simmers have forgotten their reputation. Well we haven't. I can only surmise they are aiming this at the completely new players, that have no idea how inept they are. It says so in the utterly ridiculous price they are charging. You took one for the team here, and hopefully new players will look for a review before they buy. 👍
The first company to release a bush plane, with swappable floats, is going to clean up. All my other planes will be relegated to the hangar at that point. This is obviously not that company. They should be shunned by the flight sim community.
Great review. Won't buy for $30. Sucker for pontoons as well but that's poorly modeled. I think the switches and functions are what killed it for me. Textures I can get past even tho the bar has been raised and developers need to meet it. FSX ports should be $10 and no more imo.

You know he could have easily made a good impression to the community if he popped it out at $9.99, said it has issues but fun to kick around in for what it is...I'll be addressing the major issues that keep you form flying it, but not much more. But he drops it at $40....expects the community to take him in with open arms, call him a savior to all of those backwoods bush pilots needing a floater....then gets defensive when we start posting honest reviews of the product? AAAAHHH, just finished all my video for the follow up review and didn't test this.... of course. Now that I'm able to pull off a successful water landing I need to test if it will nose over with gear down on water landing now.... genius... thanks Barry. Loading the sim back up for some more video.

I do need to be careful to remain objective though. I will probably re-review the l-19 at some point, but its going to be hard to remain objective with the actions of the developer as they are.

Tough to say, Technically I have this running on my laptop so that I can load up the sdk. I have all settings to low etc.. and it runs no problem, but its not the experience you are seeing in this videos. It looks like a generation prior to fsx as far as graphics go when all on low. So technically you will be able to run it in some configuration or another, but I'm guessing you want a somewhat modern feel to the sim. It is very processor intensive. You may be limited by the 2 GHz here before the ram or graphics.
This honestly looks like it would be a passion project from some free mod maker. If it would be then i wouldn't mind it and just appreciate having this unique plane in the game. however since this a mod from a 'reputable modmaker' is just unacceptable. There is literally no excuse for this plane to have any cost to it. It is a stain on the paid modding world.
I've seen better community projects. Looks like he spent just enough time on the exterior to make it pretty enough to sell. The packaging is nice. Definitely overpriced. Just checked his facebook page to see if he released the v1.2 update yet and couldn't believe how he talks to customers.

You have achieved something no one could during the FSX era, and that is to get Blackbox Simulations to break cover. When they used to bring out shiny turds before, they stayed silent. You managed to rattle the cage.
Lets be clear. What you have done here is show the many flaws to the public. The paying public, who might be brand new to flight sim, and have no idea that these are actual errors. This isn't good for the community at large, and to Microsoft/Asobo. You were perfectly within your right to do so, as a paying customer and reviewer. 👍
@@MrBillUp Thanks Chris, makes me feel a bit better about the whole ordeal, some of the back and forth and actions on the forums were not very nice, and i'm not particularly proud of every response I had there, but when I saw him doing fake reviews and digging a deeper hole it just got under my skin. In the end if the result is that he fixes the model, then I think it was a good result. Hopefully he realizes its a different time, and you can't get away with this crap as easily. Thanks again!

This is the classic Goldrush phase of a new sim. Everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon, and sell their stuff, before the big names come in. When they turn up, these types of releases will either stop, or be forced to go out dirt cheap. They hope to get away with this because of the lack of competition.
Yeah I believe you're correct. The only reason I bought the kit fox was because I saw a review of one of their other versions of the kit fox which looked good for X-Plane 11. Then when I got the Microsoft version, all those good things in the model had been removed for some reason and you know the rest.
Just like the Carenado 182, I know not too long down the road a2a will be releasing their AccuSim 182. So I'll be saving my money for when this drops. Unfortunately for new players to flight sims, they don't know this, and this is where the vultures like Blackbox Simulations step in and hoover up some cash. I want MSFS 2020 to be as successful as possible, so I hope that companies that are only in it for a quick buck, get the treatment they deserve, and f*** off sharpish.
Alarm bells went off when Asobo announced that they had signed up 700-800 developers... I can think of about 6-7 professional quality aircraft devs, and about 5-6 top quality airport devs. That's a staggering amount of garbage that we're going to have to sift through in the marketplace.

I've owned this aircraft for many months... It's been a joy to operate and fly totally trouble free (all three variants).....All systems work including radio navigation.... I'm not sure about your negativity from the start of your presentation, this aircraft simply doesn't deserve your appraisal....I also own 3 other Black Box aircraft, they are all as close to a realistic flight experience as I feel MSFS 2020 can give... Good lord, the Sibwings Bird Dog from 10+ years ago in FSX blows this out of the water. Thanks for this honest review. It's early days in the MSFS lifespan and we need as much candor and lack of bias in reviews as possible. Yours has rapidly become my favorite review channel & I wish you all the best going forward!

Hey mate, Just wanted to also extend my support and admiration for releasing a truly honest review..it speaks volumes for you and your channel. At the end of the day, as they say, 'The proof is in the pudding'.. I chuckle when I hear about developers trying to defend a product which we can all SEE is horrible. In this day and age of simulation, this isn't just bad. It's unnaceptable. I also intentionally write this here.. because I hope that those same devs come and read the comments.

Darn what a shame, because the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog is a nice vintage aircraft that deserves to be represented better than this.
I think 3rd party guys are in for a rude awakening to the level that we now expect, terrible, ugly, low res screws?! lol madness what trash! Sorry to say it but it is the worst official release of a 3rd party plane currently on the store.
So far it's not on the official store. Hopefully for everyone's sakes it never will be in this state.
The kitfox was bad enough but this would really bring down already slippery standards there.

@@NOTAM1 LOL....his small following consists of a group who clearly don't know this developer...his history, nor how he will continue to try and drop straight FSX ports into MSFS and charge the ridiculous amount he is...knowing that there is a new crop of "simmers" who are unaware of his business model. The saddest part is that his previous company (PSS) in its day and the version of the sim we were on, was one of the best for the Airbus and 777...it was when he suddenly closed shop, and the security software that needed links to his servers to keep the aircraft functioning died with the company, and all those customers were left with products they could not use....is where it all went downhill from there. After a few years, they finally got the servers back online, but on the BBS site under PSS, you'll see you just have to pay a modest 4 euros to get access to your purchases back. You can't get to the page from the BBS front page...but that's to be expected since the commerce page is such a mess.
Anyway....your review of this rubbish was spot on. How he comes on to the forums and brags how he fixes things makes me want to puke, like he thinks its more important to fix things that never should have made into the commercial release, than to have fixed them before unleashing it onto unsuspecting customers who have to start their $29 US addon with the Mag switch....even after he "patched" it because his shoddy coding fixed one thing...but broke another. I'd say his beta team would have caught that before release...but his beta team consists of folks who paid for the plane, and are expected to report issues....even blatantly silly ones...back to him...so he can look like a hero and patch them immediately to show all the naysayers how responsive he is to his customers. Like others have already posted...thanks for taking the bullet on this one. There was no way I was buying anything from him, based just on principle, and certainly after seeing how bad this is...compared to a similarly priced Mooney....which is outstanding compared to the Birddog.
Thanks for the honest review, NOTAM. I'd be pretty angry if reviewers just soft peddled these issues in an effort to avoid the heat or to simply suck up to the developers. Thanks for laying it out straight so I don't shell out the big bucks and then get the lazy surprise.

I think they got this out fast probably knowing that a lot of people are looking for float planes. After spending thousands of dollars on add-ons for FSX, P3D and X-Plane, I will surely be more careful and selective in MSFS 2020. BTW thanks for the review.

Keep it up! A simple response from BlackBox along the lines "you're right, we'll be working to fix all of this to try to provide great value in this new sim" would have been a much better response from the publisher, and would probably have sold more copies of the turd while they try to fix it. Now their reputation and of this release is tainted and it will be much harder to recover.
Thanks John. Seems I'm not alone. The realization hit when seeing his facebook page (Blackbox Sim.) and getting into fights with customers over concerns. Very strange. Its been one of the strangest interactions I've ever had with a company.
I’ve heard some bad stories about their airbus addons for P3D. Now this doesn’t sound too good either. I wonder how the Microsoft devs allow this in their store? Don’t they check it?

Adding a more up to date comment here - Seems like they have fixed most of these issues - mine is working great, but then again, I just bought it. Some issues remain, but its now seeming like its worth the money.

In my experiences as a repainter for their Airbus series, BBS has been nothing but aggressive and dismissive of their faults. I can bet you this plane will be in "beta" like their Airbus series (now over ~4 years?) with no end in sight. PSA to all viewers: don't buy BBS. They don't finish their work, charge ridiculously for it, and in my experience, have never been open to feedback.
@@NOTAM1 don't let it get to you. Those guys have a history of doing that. They've got a small group of fans who keep waiting for their work, clinging onto the illusion that they will provide that once great quality they had during the PSS era, but I don't think they've kept up with modern addons. Sad, but that's the reality with BBS.

I honestly predicted that ending. What would be more perfect than figuring out that the amphibious configuration just "crashes" when it touches the water.
lol, its funny because it scared the $#it out of me when it happened, mostly frustration and a break with a drink, but it wasn't till I came back and watched the footage that I realized it couldn't have been better. It perfectly summed how I felt at the end of that frustrating 5 hour review.

I'm flying in 4K as well, and this thing is just wonderful. I have been doing well with it. Got everything to work well, did a nice ILS landing with it. So cool. Let me ask you.. the two com's below the Garmin unit.. the one on the left is the NAV, where I can also switch between standby and active etc. Then, there is the same thing in the little com box to the left (both are in the same unit). I thought, at first this was for the radio com.. but, it turns out that is done on the Garmin unit. So.. what is that for then?

I agree, the graphics are an embarrassment. This was a great bird in FSX produced by another dev whose name escapes me. I bought the Blackbox version for P3d and I only flew it once, a big disappointment and as you say, I suspect this was the same model which has been ported across. Thanks for the video, because I was originally considering buying this bird. You effectively confirmned my initial thoughts.
I'm guessing he attempted to benefit by the lack of choice right now in the marketplace.

I knew the flight sim community was full of scammers, but it's unfortunate to see all of them coming to MSFS first before the legit plane makers. Hopefully Microsoft will institute some sort of standards before letting just anyone sell garbage in the marketplace. But this and the crappy KitFox makes me really discouraged for the future.

Exactly (re: DCS) this thing has a handful of working switches and none of them are complex. Mostly just light on/off. IMO, this was just released too early to take advantage of a hungry market.
BTW, do you have more Navigraph stuff comming?

Yeah, in short it was just released too early.
I got excited for an amphib. Saw it was released this morning. I bought it, jumped in, and nearly puked when I saw the interior. I was like, it's ok, let's go do some power off stalls, and land in a river. I spent probably 5 minutes looking for the water rudder, gave up, and looked for the key binding. Welp, that doesn't work, either. Just disappointment after disappointment.
Also, there is a weird visual glitch on the prop near the spinner that is unbelievably distracting.

That's so sad, like you said the Icon doesn't make me enjoying the floatplane stuff and I was so glad to see a real floatplane release and now it turns out to be a bummer. Nice video though and maybe with crashdetection off you still can land
@@NOTAM1 I see they just released a patch, maybe it is less worse now :-) It's € 25, - in my region, still consider buying, with all settings on arcade style I can see me hopping around the misty moorings fjords with it. But maybe there will be a better floatplane in the future by an other 3rd party, doubts doubts...

@@NOTAM1 Please post an update with crash detect off (or please post a message.) I usually have it turned of solely because of the insane load times. I can tell if I had a terrible landing, I just don't want to wait 5-10 mins to get back up in the air if I auger in. I just want a real float plane that flies and floats nicely. I'll even put up with the crappy interior if it handles well on the water. I'm holding out hope that someone will create a De Havilland Beaver.

Thank you for your work on this, you know the only time anyone has to get defensive is when they know you are telling the truth. No one has to defend things they believe in so the fact that they spent the time to try and discredit you makes it even worse. I will never, upon this principle alone, spend a cent with them because of how they treated you. Well said Conf.Dad, thanks for this. I far from perfect like the next person but I try to re-evaluate my actions when necessary and I must admit this whole thing just left a sour taste in my mouth. Spend 5 minutes on Blackbox Simulations Facebook page and I realized I'm not unique in how this developer has treated his customers. I'm done reaching out to him for comment or to help. He's made his bed IMO and it's too bad because ultimately, I'm just hoping he fixes his product for however many other people have purchased it. Thaks for you comment.
At some point I asked myself: What is this round thing supposed to be on the right above the instrument panel? A mirror? In the original photos it was clear: It is a mirror. Shouldn't you see something there? ;-)

This is how I felt doing a Cold and Dark start on the Robinson R-22 back on FSX!! As in WTF I'm doing wrong!!
lol, its very frustrating isn't it. You end up second guessing every step even though you are familiar with all of these systems. Developer doesn't think its a big deal, but they've wasted a lot of my time. Much more time than their product was even worth.

That's very subjective. There are still a lot of issues that may or may not ruin your experience. I can say with confidence that it is not on par with other $40 models like the Mooney. I can also say that its great the developer is trying to fix these issues. The interior has not changed, many things have been fixed. That can provide some context to the newest version which isn't much different from the v1.2 review. Important to note is that the problems in this review that prevented me from flying the aircraft at all have seemingly been resolved. I didn't have frozen or invisible aircraft in v1.2. Its cheap, but result is cheap in my opinion... but I am not a pilot neither an experienced simmer, but It seems to never stop to fly when landing... lol... flaps of one notch only 6 % ??? No drag produced here... Tell me what you thing please!

Curious use of pontoon. A floatplane ties up to a pontoon dock.....
a float plane is also called a pontoon plane when in this configuration which differentiates it from floatplanes who use their hull as the surface which contacts the water. In this case, the plane has two pontoons.
@@NOTAM1 Sorry but no. Floatplane describes an aeroplane equipped with floats. An aircraft whose hull provides the planing surface and buoyancy is called a seaplane. A pontoon in this context is a dock. Yes, the term pontoon plane is sometimes seen but in real world aviation, the terms floatplane and seaplane are the accepted terms.

so far the GA addon aircraft are a big let down. I was so excited for a bush cessna and i think i'll hold off.
Yeah, both bush planes are a let down for me.
Frankly, I am enjoying the aircraft, warts and all.

BlackBox Simulations have always been the laughing stock of the flight sim community for their cheap shit. Only this time they seem to think the hard core flight simmers have forgotten their reputation. Well we haven't. I can only surmise they are aiming this at the completely new players, that have no idea how inept they are. It says so in the utterly ridiculous price they are charging. You took one for the team here, and hopefully new players will look for a review before they buy. 👍
The first company to release a bush plane, with swappable floats, is going to clean up. All my other planes will be relegated to the hangar at that point. This is obviously not that company. They should be shunned by the flight sim community.

Hey Galf, I did, and the rudder pedals also... most axis based items in this bird are spotty at best.
For water I would be just as happy with the Stock I-5 versus what they want for this, not even worth a free model.
Great review. Won't buy for $30. Sucker for pontoons as well but that's poorly modeled. I think the switches and functions are what killed it for me. Textures I can get past even tho the bar has been raised and developers need to meet it. FSX ports should be $10 and no more imo.

You know he could have easily made a good impression to the community if he popped it out at $9.99, said it has issues but fun to kick around in for what it is...I'll be addressing the major issues that keep you form flying it, but not much more. I know the community would appreciate the honesty and the effort to give us the 1st float plane to the sim. But he drops it at $40....expects the community to take him in with open arms, call him a savior to all of those backwoods bush pilots needing a floater....then gets defensive when we start posting honest reviews of the product? Drop the attitude, go home....either re-brand/re-price it at $9.99 and work that market...vs bringing a bug-riddled, not-a-round-dial-to-be-found joke of a true MSFS modeling effort into the big-boy realm of $40cdn addons. What airport did you take off from?
Not the video maker, but I'm pretty sure that is Nanwalek (KEB) up in Alaska. It has a star on it and is a challenge landing under the Windy category.

AAAAHHH, just finished all my video for the follow up review and didn't test this.... of course. Now that I'm able to pull off a successful water landing I need to test if it will nose over with gear down on water landing now.... genius... thanks Barry. Loading the sim back up for some more video.

@@trevoC132 Can't be hung for telling the truth. Was interested in the ac but walked away after your review. There's a lot of devs jumping on the dollar wagon with msfs2020 due to its newness and hype. Not all have best endeavours at heart.
@@andyholmes9485 I think you are right, and probably foretelling the near future anyways. I'm guessing I should prepare myself to start shoveling some shit. I do need to be careful to remain objective though. I will probably re-review the l-19 at some point, but its going to be hard to remain objective with the actions of the developer as they are.

Tough to say, Technically I have this running on my laptop so that I can load up the sdk. I have all settings to low etc.. and it runs no problem, but its not the experience you are seeing in this videos. It looks like a generation prior to fsx as far as graphics go when all on low. So technically you will be able to run it in some configuration or another, but I'm guessing you want a somewhat modern feel to the sim. It is very processor intensive. You may be limited by the 2 GHz here before the ram or graphics.
One of the developers is currently going around and badmouthing MS because they could not get this plane accepted to the Marketplace.
This honestly looks like it would be a passion project from some free mod maker. If it would be then i wouldn't mind it and just appreciate having this unique plane in the game. however since this a mod from a 'reputable modmaker' is just unacceptable. There is literally no excuse for this plane to have any cost to it. It is a stain on the paid modding world.
I've seen better community projects. Looks like he spent just enough time on the exterior to make it pretty enough to sell. The packaging is nice. Definitely overpriced. Just checked his facebook page to see if he released the v1.2 update yet and couldn't believe how he talks to customers.
