Sr O you did a bang up job, melting ice and getting rid of snow, bending metal etc… Outsider you have an awesome dad! Seeing you and him leads me to believe your an awesome dad to mini O. Rain or snow or in between your dedication to the build is a testament to a great work ethic instilled by dad and mom and other family I’m sure. As always God bless you and the O fam. Mrs O I hope your able to find some relief and are able to move about. Our prayers are with you all. Love from NYC 🌲🪓🔦❄️ PS Can’t believe you only needed 2ft my heart sank. But, you said with a smile you’ll find a way. Awesome attitude no matter what! The color match is spot on, amazing!!

Sandra Westley, I agree with that, I did watch a homestead programme but the chap spent all the time sat talking, with his bum in his hand, that’s short in the UK for a whinged,😂 in the end I had to unsubscribe, it just got me so cross that he never actually got anything done.

One of the most physically demanding jobs in construction is roofing, so to see your dad going up and down that ladder all day like a nimble sprite is pretty damned impressive. I know how physically demanding that is and he seems to cope as easily as a man 30 years his junior. You have a fine dad there.

Brings me back to when I was a child watching and helping my Dad, not on a roof of course but building stuff, putting in plumbing, etc. always love the shots and video of your wood and the sounds of the birds.

I left the funeral and stayed at the cabin till the kitchen was done. I will forever miss him and cherish the special time we spent building that cabin. Make sure to cherish these times with your dad. Take a extra 5 min and hug him and tell him how you feel. Life passes us too soon.

Love watching people do this work with such meticulous care for every step. This will be magnificent! My husband has been a contractor for 38 years n now is in a supervisor position. He started out as a carpenter but has always done almost every aspect of building. His father was contractor too so he learned at a young age. Their family has built many cabins in the Adirondacks of upstate NY. They owned n operated a camp ground in Schroon Lake for many years.

I like construction type videos and that is part of why I like your channel. The other reason may have just hit me on your last video. My Dad was a carpenter contractor and I worked on his job sites as soon as I was big enough to push a broom effectively, to using a shovel, to hand tools and helping in the builds. As I got to my late teens and twenties we shifted areas. I became a plumber and he shifted to remodeling bathrooms and kitchens and we got to team up doing the whole job. Always bouncing ideas off each other as struggles arose. He passed on to Heaven in 2006. I miss those times. Glad to see how you and your Dad work together like we did.

@J Elsner i imagine once the cabin is tight and that wood stove is going there will be less snow on that roof.even when insulated there still will be some heat loss and it may be enough to warm that roof where when that snow reaches a certain amount it will slide off.

It's been rough getting building materials! And the prices have been ridiculously high! I am building what I can out of pallet wood (i.e., chicken coop, well house, etc.), and where possible I am using reclaimed material. Unfortunately, I still need to buy some material.
Have you put the word out to various contractors incase they have an extra piece of metal? Sometimes they have extra.

Men I envy you for your relation that you have with your father, to do such a project together, I
I never had that or will I ever. Because he passed on and we were not close when he still was alive. I do similar things, although not on your level though, and I use only materials that others threw away. the winter here is in full blow so I am done for the outside work, but I work in my small workshop to make furniture etc for the cabins. But there is no day passing buy that I wished I had someone on my side that keeps me motivated, like your dad does. It can be silent here up in the mountains of Norway, special when winter is going on for more than 9 months. Thresher what you got with your dad, And never take it for granted. Thanks for your videos and the strength they provide to this old war-dog.

You remind me of my daughter and I when we work on projects that most women could not do. Actually, we're pretty savvy about Construction and repairs that need to be done around the house.
I found myself praying for safety for you on that slippery roof and your dad up on that ladder with NO HARNESS! It looked a little precarious to me. He's amazing! You both are! Merry Christmas and God bless you both and your family! 💕

EVERY cabin in the woods needs a green steel roof.
For used/recycled steel roofing it looks like new !

    • @DougHanchard
      @DougHanchard 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It's harder to find in quantities required than most people realize. Adding insult to injury, price of useable steel has skyrocketed. In some regions it's selling for 65 - 70% of new because inventory of new is non-existent.

The best part is it keeps him active in body mind and spirit being with family doing something he loves with a much loved son I'm the process giving him the healing he needs and you need after the lost of mum. It gives you both great memories of things done together.

I worked with dad building seven sheds out white cypress pine and steel frames we built our selves l trimmed and shaped and sawed all the timber myself using chainsaws and dad and l both made frames out of four by two l beams. He and l both dug six foot deep holes three foot square on top and five foot square in solid sandstone rock storms shouldn't be able to lift the uprights out the ground as has happened on other farms around in recent years. We always the down the purlins in a double Cobb and co twitch so they have more resistance against wind damage they have all withe stood tornadoes damage unlike the house which lost its roof.lol

If you "just" need 1 panel to finish the last 2 feet, you could probably use the flat stock (of the roll) to bend the last panel in 3 or 4 sections...

That company was awesome for letting you use their cutting room and brake for sure WOW!!! This is so exciting with the roof just need ridge cap and last panel. Holy cow almost done with the roof. GREAT JOB both of you. Love your site for sure. Gods blessings to you ALL!!!

Could that rolled steel have made a temp roofing panel?

I really envy the bond and connection you and your dad have. You put it somewhat plainly but the synergy you describe is hard to find with people and many don't have the opportunity to build working and emotional relationship of this level with anyone let alone their parent.

The cabin is looking great but of coarse Murphy’s law steps in and slows you down. I look forward to the next video.

You're very fortunate to have your dad able to help you. The memories the cabin will hold are precious and will stand the test of time. There's an ancient Native America saying~ Something lives only as long as the last person who remembers it. Photos help capture this also, provided there are wording on the backs to help the view understand. Will be great to have all the chinking done and finally get it dried in.
