IF YOU HAVE ONE INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT (i.e. not a relay or fuse issue)... for the 2011 Malibu each headlight has a ground wire (ring connector) to a stud inboard of the headlights which you can see if you pull the headlight out and look that way under the plastic front cover. When you take this wire off, the associated headlight goes out. The nut and stud is painted and was probably a poor connection when it was new - you'll want to remove the nut wire brush or scrape the stud and metal to a clean surface (no paint or corrosion) and take the paint off the underside of the nut. The wire is a very fine gauge with just a few copper strands that can corrode over time (turns to green dust) inside the insulation so it has to be stripped back a little at a time until you find good clean copper again. Again, just a few strands so don't strip the jacket so deep you lose any strands... you cannot afford to lose even one! They didn't leave you much slack, so if it rotted too far inside the insulation, you may have to splice a new length of wire further back into the harness (I recommend soldered splice and waterproof shrink tube). Crimp on a new ring connector and reassemble. You can cover with a conductive grease or dielectric grease, if you want to. If your headlight is intermittent, it could be these ground points and it will drive you crazy as you replace expensive headlight bulbs, sockets, connectors, relays, fuses, switches, etc. (Although, relay would be both headlights and fuses generally are not intermittent unless maybe the connection is corroded or loose at the fuse box.)
So I have a 2012 Chevy Malibu and my lights all work but my runner lights in the back won’t come on I changed the bulbs the relay and the lights switch to turn in lights and signals what do I need to do to fix this issue?
I have an issue with my low beams (DRL) or should i say i have NO low beams. I have changed the 15amp fuse, both 10amp fuses and the DRL relay, still nothing. So i changed the headlight switch on the column, still nothing. I have blinkers and Hi beams just both low beams just popped at once, anyone with any advise i could sure use the help.
Exact same issue! Thought bulbs went, installed new bulbs and nothing. Hooked up power and ground to old bulbs and they work fine. Don't know what would cause this. Wife was driving and she said 1 or both low beams went out when she hit a bump...
This system is awful. Constant problems with headlight connectors melting. Many people have solved this recurring issue by removing the DRL relay. Going to try it myself, as I'm sick of constantly having to disassemble the entire front end to work on headlights.
That has been a recurring problem for me. My Passenger side internally melted once and the Driver side just melted for a second time. Did the removal of the DRL relay help?
Ive had the same melting problem with my driver side low beam also. Today makes the third time ive replaced the plug and i had heard about disabling the drl by pulling the fuse so i did and my drl are still coming on. So im guessing i need to pull the relay also then, right!?!
Lot of great information I got from this. My low beams are extremely low and when I turn on the high beams only one side switches even tho I have new bulbs
If my daytime auto lights burns out only on one side of my headlights but when I turn on my headlights both lights turn on. So why wouldn’t both lights on my auto day lights not work? Thank u for the video
Well my thing is in the trunk there's also a fuse box for the parking lights I tried to put a new fuse in but it seems to not stay in place does that mean I have to replace my whole fuse box in the trunk bc it still will not stay on as of now I'm riding my brakes at night time trying to avoid being stopped and trying to avoid riding at night but I work 5 am so it's dark around that time do u have an answer for that so I can fix it myself without going to the shop
So I changed my bulbs(low beam) ( 2010 Malibu) cause I did t wanna pay over 100 and now for some odd reason both my lights won’t come on .. any suggestions? I hope I don’t have to take the bumper off again 🤦♂️😢🤷♂️
Did you ever recieve an answer? I have 09 malibu too and my lowbeams burn out one at a time and now they both went out. I will try swap the relay out but i am not sure that is the issue as i changed both headlamps a couple times
@@kadanrisk2125 I had issues with lights burning out, beefed up the connector & wires because they can’t tolerate the heat this system generates. Also pulled DRL fuse and relay to lower temps. Been good for two months now.
Hi, I have the same car, I bought an LED strip for the hood and I don't know which fuse to connect it to, I want it to work all the time, the light comes on, both high beam and low beam, which fuse to connect?
I tried this on my 2011 Malibu ltz, I noticed that the fuse for my car for low beams are 20amp fuses. I changed them and it didn’t make a difference both headlights are still pretty low, foul it be that I just have a bad ground or something?
Hey I’m having an issue where my passenger headlight low beam and tail light are not turning on, I replaced both my headlights a few months ago so i don’t think it’s the bulb, is there a relay that controls the right side lights? I really don’t know much abt cars so anything will help
will it be ok to remove the day time running lights fuse? I keep replacing the head light on my front passenger side ...I'm planning to replace the wire harness on heads lights only and I was told to remove the day time running lights fuse so it will last longer...thank you in advance
Same...I just replaced my passenger headlight bulb last week and it went out already...have to check fuse though but I am going to be turning off my auto lights during the day to save light.lol
Im gonna try pulling the fuse along with the relay and see if that fixes my melting problem. Mine usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks so ill let ya know if it still works after week 3 with drl fuse and relay pulled this time around.
So my passenger running, low and high is completely off. Driver is fine. What would I chk 1st. Thought bulb til I seen this. Now , it makes me rhink, not bulb bc it would be high or low

Theory is that the drl put out too many amps for plug to handle thetefore resulting in it melting.
