Magnificent!!! What a blessing to discover this choir!!! I have never heard a more moving rendition of this hymn, and it is one of my favorites. (I have sung in professional choirs in North America and Europe; I am quick to critise and difficult to impress!. This performance was SO beautifully done.)
Also in Brazilian Portuguese, with different lyrics, we have worshipped God for long time in our churches using a such beautiful German melody! In a recent service I record a small part in our worship and sent to a couple of German friends and surprised them also!

This hymn is from josef haydn, Austrian composer, from his string quartet no. 3 also called the emperor quartet, because it's 2nd movement has this hymn which is the original music adapted for strings of the emperors anthem of the hapsburg empire of Austro/hungaria before it collapsed In 1918. I have only recently discovered the videos made by these Indian massed choirs. Their singing is stupendous. It looks effortless, which is one way of saying that a great deal of effort went into learning and practising the Great Hymns of the Church. There are also hymns in Hindi (?), of which the tunes were new to me but how delightful they are. Long may you continue to give so much joy around the world.

I agree that these hymns are utterly stupendous and brought out in all of their glory by the careful practice and performance of these massed choirs. I've sent them to others and soon hope to play one or two to my agnostic brother who lives near Oxford when I stay with him tomorrow for five days. We are good friends but he still rejects Christ as lord. If folks could pray for him - thanks so much!!

Organist Immanuel Thegayeswaran died in a road accident along with his father and mother. Their funeral service was held inthe same church. The Organist was in his mid twenties when he was taken back to heaven. Extraordinary musical talent. He played for Veterinary students fellowship Christmas Carol service when he was studying in sixth standard. We miss him.

Beautiful choir from St. Andrew's, Chennai. I have been in Chennai twice St Thomas church and Egmore, Don Bosco., St. Thomas mount, lovely people there then we visited Valankanni shrine what a lovely place and lovely faithful people in Christ. May God bless them.

In the elite of india, English is their primary language. It would not be unheard of for the people to know English on daily basis. For the last 50 yrs Methodist have been deeply involved in bringing the Christ to those in that region. Look at the caption of this group, the many different churches that have singers in this choir. I was searching for what hymn has the same tune as the German national anthem....and came to this video... I was not expecting THIS! I knew that some Indians were also Christians, but I just pictured them celebrating in an Indian kind of way...? I know that's ignorant to think that...at least I do know that now! 😳 Good God I was not prepared at ALL! I'm not a Christian, I don't even really believe in God, but after hearing this I felt such a rush of soaring celestial glory....or something like that. That was powerfully moving and I feel quite embarrassed to have been quite so surprised by their performance. I guess despite our best efforts it's hard to NOT have a preconceived idea in our heads as to what to expect from certain cultures or countries. It was like watching a video of traditional Nigerian dance, and they come out in cowboy boots and start line dancing! It just totally surprised me, and confused me for a minute. Now I'm surprised and confused by my own expectation! I am someone who despises racism, so this feeling isn't sitting well with me right now. Not that I had any GOOD or BAD expectations simply because the people are Indian, please don't think that. But with my eyes closed this sounded just like a church performance right here in England! In some ways that makes me a little sad, when I think of early Christianity sweeping the globe with an iron fist and a steel sword, forcing people to convert or die protesting. That it could enter a vibrant culture as in India, and yet leave very little of India within it's converts. Just makes you think. These people had religions and Gods way way WAY before Christianity was even thought of, and it's like they've been cleansed of their former identities. Of course that's looking at it from a deep level, and referring back hundreds of years ago, but it's still a bit unsettling to think of. That must have taken SOME enforcement back on the earliest converts. I guess it just surprised me to see people from India, sounding and looking so UN-Indian...? 🤔 There are Indian families here in England who are more "typically" Indian than these. Didn't intend to plunge so deeply but I do have a pondering mind, and it just wasn't expecting this. But of course back to this time and age, and of course these people are willing Christians and clearly joyous about it. It was powerful, beautiful, poignant and jubilant. What I really enjoyed was seeing the zeal with which they performed as well, I felt their commitment and tribute to God. It really moved this non believer. I wasn't expecting that this Sunday afternoon... 🙄❤️ EDIT*** just watched it again... it's got me crying. That lil conductor is so sweet. He just has a sweet face and is totally immersed in the music. Those voices are....just breathtaking! Wow! I have to save this. If heaven is real and it burst open right now in a fanfare of angels singing, THIS is what that would sound like! What have you done to me! 😳😢🙄😱😁
Tami, I believe what you felt as you listened and watched this was the Holy Spirit touching you and wanting to let you know that God is real. I too am from the UK and I found the Lord many years ago, on the verge of committing suicide when a girlfriend, out of the blue, dropped in to visit me. I tried to hide by turning my back to her at the kitchen sink BUT when she spoke to me, it was just like what you described in listening to this singing & music, you melted. I too melted at her words to me "God loves you, He sent His son Jesus to come to earth, die on a cross for you, taking all the wrongs you have ever done, & placing them all onto Jesus, to set you free" It seemed it was not her words but that God himself, His love flooded my soul and I cried and wept uncontrollably. She came wrapped her arms around me, and asked if I was sorry for my wrongdoings (my sins) I readily & honestly said "Yes" and she then asked me if I wanted Jesus to come inside me and for Him to live & show me how to live a life pleasing to God. Again I now eagerly said "Yes, oh yes!!" and I did and became a 'born-again' believer, changed on the inside out by the power of the Holy Spirit. That was years ago now, and if He can change & save me, He can you too. No not a religion!! A relationship with Jesus Christ, God's only son, with you! If you too accept His offer, He will come inside you and change you from the inside out. My husband watched me for 3 years after that to wait to see me revert back to the old sad depressed lady I once was....but it never happened. Though the power of God's Holy Spirit leading, guiding, teaching me the truths all found in the Holy Bible, my husband gave his heart to the Lord and even though born a Catholic, he too was water baptized going deep into the waters and up again!!! Our marriage totally changed, we prayed, we went to church and so did our three sons. Yes we had our arguments, up and downs like married people do, but through it all, Jesus Christ was always there, God never changes and thank goodness He doesn't! I do, so much BUT He never does,the same yesterday, today & forever. So I invite you to ask Jesus into your heart, (no not into a religion) but into a personal relationship with Him. Tell Him your sorry for your mistakes,all of them, He will forgive you immediately, ask Him to come live inside you and to be your helper & guide & friend & Lord & Saviour & King....and He will. If you did do that, then you are born again....and all the Angels in heaven are rejoicing over you....Alleluia and I too am rejoicing! Praise God, He is able to help you when you pray, so go ahead pray and thank Him for what He has done for you,and please go find a Bible believing church that preaches from the Bible because the Bible is all God's truth to His children. This hymn is from josef haydn, Austrian composer, from his string quartet no. 3 also called the emperor quartet, because it's 2nd movement has this hymn which is the original music adapted for strings of the emperors anthem of the hapsburg empire of Austro/hungaria before it collapsed In 1918. I have only recently discovered the videos made by these Indian massed choirs. Their singing is stupendous. It looks effortless, which is one way of saying that a great deal of effort went into learning and practising the Great Hymns of the Church. There are also hymns in Hindi (?), of which the tunes were new to me but how delightful they are. Long may you continue to give so much joy around the world.

I agree that these hymns are utterly stupendous and brought out in all of their glory by the careful practice and performance of these massed choirs. I've sent them to others and soon hope to play one or two to my agnostic brother who lives near Oxford when I stay with him tomorrow for five days. We are good friends but he still rejects Christ as lord. If folks could pray for him - thanks so much!!

The Organist was in his mid twenties when he was taken back to heaven. Extraordinary musical talent. He played for Veterinary students fellowship Christmas Carol service when he was studying in sixth standard. We miss him.

Beautiful choir from St. Andrew's, Chennai. I have been in Chennai twice St Thomas church and Egmore, Don Bosco., St. Thomas mount, lovely people there then we visited Valankanni shrine what a lovely place and lovely faithful people in Christ. May God bless them.

Good God I was not prepared at ALL!
I'm not a Christian, I don't even really believe in God, but after hearing this I felt such a rush of soaring celestial glory....or something like that.
That was powerfully moving and I feel quite embarrassed to have been quite so surprised by their performance. I guess despite our best efforts it's hard to NOT have a preconceived idea in our heads as to what to expect from certain cultures or countries. It was like watching a video of traditional Nigerian dance, and they come out in cowboy boots and start line dancing! It just totally surprised me, and confused me for a minute. Now I'm surprised and confused by my own expectation!
I am someone who despises racism, so this feeling isn't sitting well with me right now. Not that I had any GOOD or BAD expectations simply because the people are Indian, please don't think that. But with my eyes closed this sounded just like a church performance right here in England!
In some ways that makes me a little sad, when I think of early Christianity sweeping the globe with an iron fist and a steel sword, forcing people to convert or die protesting. That it could enter a vibrant culture as in India, and yet leave very little of India within it's converts. Just makes you think. These people had religions and Gods way way WAY before Christianity was even thought of, and it's like they've been cleansed of their former identities. Of course that's looking at it from a deep level, and referring back hundreds of years ago, but it's still a bit unsettling to think of. That must have taken SOME enforcement back on the earliest converts.
I guess it just surprised me to see people from India, sounding and looking so UN-Indian...? 🤔 There are Indian families here in England who are more "typically" Indian than these.
Didn't intend to plunge so deeply but I do have a pondering mind, and it just wasn't expecting this. But of course back to this time and age, and of course these people are willing Christians and clearly joyous about it. It was powerful, beautiful, poignant and jubilant.
What I really enjoyed was seeing the zeal with which they performed as well, I felt their commitment and tribute to God.
It really moved this non believer. I wasn't expecting that this Sunday afternoon... 🙄❤️
EDIT*** just watched it again... it's got me crying. That lil conductor is so sweet. He just has a sweet face and is totally immersed in the music. Those voices are....just breathtaking! Wow! I have to save this. If heaven is real and it burst open right now in a fanfare of angels singing, THIS is what that would sound like!

Tami, I believe what you felt as you listened and watched this was the Holy Spirit touching you and wanting to let you know that God is real. I too am from the UK and I found the Lord many years ago, on the verge of committing suicide when a girlfriend, out of the blue, dropped in to visit me. I tried to hide by turning my back to her at the kitchen sink BUT when she spoke to me, it was just like what you described in listening to this singing & music, you melted. I too melted at her words to me "God loves you, He sent His son Jesus to come to earth, die on a cross for you, taking all the wrongs you have ever done, & placing them all onto Jesus, to set you free" It seemed it was not her words but that God himself, His love flooded my soul and I cried and wept uncontrollably. She came wrapped her arms around me, and asked if I was sorry for my wrongdoings (my sins) I readily & honestly said "Yes" and she then asked me if I wanted Jesus to come inside me and for Him to live & show me how to live a life pleasing to God. Again I now eagerly said "Yes, oh yes!!" and I did and became a 'born-again' believer, changed on the inside out by the power of the Holy Spirit. That was years ago now, and if He can change & save me, He can you too. No not a religion!! A relationship with Jesus Christ, God's only son, with you! If you too accept His offer, He will come inside you and change you from the inside out. My husband watched me for 3 years after that to wait to see me revert back to the old sad depressed lady I once was....but it never happened. Though the power of God's Holy Spirit leading, guiding, teaching me the truths all found in the Holy Bible, my husband gave his heart to the Lord and even though born a Catholic, he too was water baptized going deep into the waters and up again!!! Our marriage totally changed, we prayed, we went to church and so did our three sons. Yes we had our arguments, up and downs like married people do, but through it all, Jesus Christ was always there, God never changes and thank goodness He doesn't! I do, so much BUT He never does,the same yesterday, today & forever. So I invite you to ask Jesus into your heart, (no not into a religion) but into a personal relationship with Him. Tell Him your sorry for your mistakes,all of them, He will forgive you immediately, ask Him to come live inside you and to be your helper & guide & friend & Lord & Saviour & King....and He will. If you did do that, then you are born again....and all the Angels in heaven are rejoicing over you....Alleluia and I too am rejoicing! Praise God, He is able to help you when you pray, so go ahead pray and thank Him for what He has done for you,and please go find a Bible believing church that preaches from the Bible because the Bible is all God's truth to His children.
