- "RICE" is a common term amongst the car community used to describe massively overdone cosmetic customization. The Need for Speed series is known for having the ability to apply Rice to player cars, and today we're back in NFS Heat to roleplay as a Ricer!

"rice" stands for "race inspired cosmetic enhancement" it doesnt mean you cant upgrade the cars performance, just that the people who normally make ricers dont

As someone who finished HEAT with only RX-7 for street racing, a miata for drifting and a impreza for Off-road, i can safely say: Yes, its completely possible. Heck, even with the pumped up cops from UNITE you can still play and win with a max out RX-7 (altough high heat races get really dificult to get first place, but i was playing on a framerate lower than 30 fps)
what's your pc spec? i want to try heat but idk if my pc can handle it or not
I used E30 for road, 370z for drift and WRX for offroad and only started buying other cars after finishing the story an it worked just fine.
I think that 180sx actually looks pretty good. Got that 2000s D1GP style. I mean that yellow livery without chrome rims.

I do think it's possible for the Need for Speed series to have a good progression system that caters to fans of all (or most) car types. The closest we got to that kind of progression system was in Most Wanted 2005 and that game had the benefit of pink slips to help with the progression (yes, I do think abusing the reward card pattern is a gameplay mechanic).
Underground 1 is the only other game I can think of with a similarly good progression and that's entirely because of the fact that players could only use one car so they would simply trade cars and carry over the upgrades from the previous car with little money spent (or money received as rebates) and that helped keep the races interesting since you were basically driving over the same tracks over and over again (expecting shit to change. Now that is crazy).
Carbon could have had a good progression similar to Most Wanted 2005 if the game had more opportunities for pink slips and the money awarded for completing races on repeats stayed the same instead of being reduced to just $500. Carbon would have benefitted from having mini bosses in the form of other crew members from different crews. They definitely should have let players race against other members of each crew in canyon duels and then give players the chance to win that crew member's car through a pink slip.

Ah i remember finishing this game using only 3 cars. I started with the e30 (i remember making it in the app first then shared the livery when the game came out, last i checked a long time ago it had about 150 downloads which i was proud of) until i unlocked the r34. The r34 was my main car for the entire game, i converted the e30 into a drift car and bought the classic mustang for offroad, which i spent maybe 30 minutes making a police livery on it then proceeded to spend nearly as much time vandalizing it with dirt, rust, and grafitti, probably my proudest work for some reason.
That was an awesome edit. Appreciated the JayzTwoCents blurb.

the rx7 is my favorite car and out of the 3 ghost games it was actually enjoyable to race in NFS Heat. Even gave it the forged rotary for the lategame. Too bad Ghost never gave it new body options.
"Ricer" is more of a meme instead of an actual insult now. Some ricer mods are coming back and holy might some pull it off really good, and in countries where rice is basically the main recipe of local car culture, there is no avoidance, you can only accept and appreciate the work and effort put into them.
When i played this game I just used the 180sx the whole time just upgrading stuff. I did use other cars for specific mission types like drift or whatever but the 180 was what i used for anything i could.

I completed the game in the 180sx you get at the start (I upgraded it to make it fast enough obviously) and I only bought the Chevy stepside to do the offroading races
i think i did this challenge unintentionally, i got the ultimate edition when it was on sale on steam and it gives you a bunch of riced out cars for free so i used those for a bit before switching to a 1972 nissan Z and that carried me thru the rest of the game.

iv been playing need for speed underground 2 on my gamecube sense i was like 6 and im now 16 and still have fun with it but now the newer games i feel are more arcadey type driving but i still love manual and try to "professionally" drive and in first person, i became a big fan of first person with getting better turning, drifts, the small movement jumps when im in manual and hitting that NOS, listing to the nostalgic skindred - Nobody and riders on the storm featuring snoop dogg. this was way to long, got lost in the memories mb.

(Not counting the races YOU HAVE TO use a different car)
You can go to any city in Sweden and see at least a handful of riced up old Volvos at any time. There must be more ricer 240s here than regular stock ones left.
