Hmong people need to get rid of 40-50k funeral. Cut expenses. No funeral home rental. No eating cows. Just do 2 hours funeral at church, catered luncheon then unto cemetery service. Pay for casket, plot, vault, morgue/transport, catered food. $10k should cover all expenses. All siblings should pay equally. We must adjust to American standards and our own financial strengths only not on kwvtij Neejtsa expectations n traditions. Many of today young couples will prefer this method/approach and is very feasible.

This story is not about siblings fighting over money but about how money can reveal a person's true character. It revealed that the oldest brother was the most evil of all the siblings.
I never understand why siblings would fight over money or funeral issues until our family experienced it firsthand. You will never know how evil anyone really is until a parent died! Still recovering from all the heartache! So much back stabbing and betrayals!
While I understand and respect the Hmong funeral culture, I feel it is way too expensive, which is the root cause and stress for the children and rivalry and hate between siblings. The funeral should be a time to mourn our loved ones and not slaving cooking for guests. Of course, the family should provide food for guests, but food should not be the focus as it's one of the major costs of the funeral. Just my two cents. I do hope that with time, we Hmong slowly change, so it does not create stress, burden, and hate between siblings.
I agreed on purchasing life insurance for the elderly…some complain they don’t have money to pay but have money to do so many leisure activities; at the end expect those with life insurance are exposed to contribute more. It’s not fair. It’s all about priorities

If there’s over 6 of us siblings and I’m the only one paying for a life insurance policy. They better come up with something. Hmong parents need to think smarter nowadays. The mistake a lot of Hmong family make is that they expect the person with the life insurance policy to take full responsibility for the deceased funeral. That’s not how it works. And another mistake for the Hmong parents, if you want a grand funeral for yourself…better get your own life insurance policy. Have a power of attorney written will so them nasty kids don’t try to kill each other over money. Problem solved!!!
Totally agreed! Whoever buy insurance is just to cover their own ass, not to cover every body else's ass. If you don't have life insurance then just cough up the money and out of your own pocket, the end of the story.
I agree I have the same family problems when my parents passed until this day i really don't communicate with my brothers and sister in law. 😢 I rather talk to God only so I don't have to deal with people and their drama.
Same here sister. My mom still alive and I feel when it’s her time to go, me, the daughter will end up paying for everything again since my husband and I are the only one that purchase life insurance for our parents. I have 4 brothers and non of them bought life insurance for my parents. I have not talked to my brothers in 4 years since my dad passed.

From now on the parents should buy their own life insurance for themselves and stop depending on their kids, I’m a parent too I pay for own life insurance policy and i still buy a term too so that my kids get some extra money .

Very few Hmong Americans become rich after marrying a Hmong Lao. Like the story a few days ago titled "Kawm tag daim degree xa nyiaj lawm", the Hmong American now need to support everyone, including those in Laos... not to mention the $20k - $50k s/he needs to go there, marry him/her, bring him/her in the US.

Thanks for sharing, I believe every family goes through disagreements during the funeral. But, your brother was so messed up to have done that to you and your sister.

Wow, kicked his own parents out for his Hmong Lao in-laws. In the US, don't depend on sons. Once they're married, they're neutered and will do anything and everything their wife says, especially if the wife is a nkauj mos ab. When she says jump, he will say how high. If she wants his parents and 1st born gone, he'll do it.
Make it simple. All kids come out evenly and stop tryna feed the whole community. That’s something us Hmong need to understand now days.

I heard too many of this kind of stories. 1st of all its shouldn't have been the kids responsible to bury the parents. I want to save enough so i wont put the burden on my kids when i go bye. For the old he just greedy, he want to gain only.

In this case, the other 2 sons are losers. The parents have put their trust in the kids too much and didn’t save for their own funeral. The 3 siblings that had life insurance didn’t give 2 shits about their older brother who claimed he didn’t have money, but was able to do so much for his in-laws. So he acted out by putting a restraining order on the sisters.

The moment I heard the husbands didnt agree to them going to the funeral home with the restraint order… it means the sisters in this story probably drama queens that their husbands had enough of their drama too! @@c.lee-soulisak327 based on hmong tradition, girls aren’t supposed to inherit the parents’s wealth mean they arent supposed to have life insurance policy either if they do not intend to help bury their parents. Since they do, it is only right that they contribute instead of making a business out of their parents. They probably mocking the brothers so they got restrained order. The brothers are wrong for being jealous but since the clan didn’t reject the restrained order mean the clan believe the sisters deserved it due to drama queen behaviors.
