In the meantime on the consumer side if a repair costs 2/3 of the cost of a new anything (washer, laptop, car etc.) it's to the trash and time for a new one 🙄. So if these are repaired twice in it's service it's lost money🤫
They said the transmission has a service life of 7-10 years, and this one ran for 9. So i guess after the overhaul, it has a new service life for 7-10 years. With 2/3 of the price of a new one. Maybe the model also isn't build new anymore and the rest of the wind turbine usually last for 20 years
much more expensive than the green lobby would have us believe. And all the oil, and energy that goes into casting the metals, taht have to be mined. This is surely not 'pollution free power'
Rolling element bearings and gear teeth undergo fatigue cycle damage. Once the load is specified during the design engineering phase, the failure is guaranteed in a certain number of cycles (rotations) of the gearbox. It's predestined to fail. No amount of oil analysis or oil changes can prevent this.
"No energy system can produce sum useful energy in excess of the total energy put into constructing it. This universal truth applies to all energy systems. Energy, like time, flows from past to future".
I read about a company that put up a smallish wind turbine that saved them 120K a year and paid for itself in 7 years...so I wonder if all the countries that put these up on the tax payers dime will pass the savings onto it's citizens...or continually increase electricity cost each year as usual.
Built in the UK with huge subsidies and in less than a decade they'll be unfit for purpose and with no help for repairs. They're a wasteful way to generate electricity.
@@jackking5567 I take it that they are built for a guarantee of 7 years and then needs maintenance/ rebuilding such as replacing bearings and possibly gears (much like your car). Imagine if your car could run non-stop for 7 years or run for 21 years (using 1/3 day driving) stopping for the night? would you be happy with that performance?

do you know how little "oil" hint zero it takes to power the refineries that make the metal? natural gas and coal do that. metals can by recycled. this thing offsetts far more power in its 10 years of operation than it ever remotely consumed. what a dumb argument. most of the cost of these things are land lease and infrastructure and erection. thus the push for massive offshore units wherever possible. in the us solar and wind arent that much higher especially as power continues to rise as utility companies raise rates about 5% a year wind and solar are largely capped, installation labor rises with inflation roughly but once installed they're immune to the economy.
Yup. AOC thinks "its just a windmill guys. We made those in woodshop class but these make electricity from wind and its free." Failed to mention how much co2 is pumped out of the train that is transporting them. 1 blade alone takes the length of 10 railcars and the train will pump out more co2 than 2000 normal cars do in 5yrs. She doesnt mention each turbine, when all is said and done, costs 7 million after freight & labor. Also fails to mention maintenance costs. Fails to mention on days w/no wind you better have a diesel gen or electrical lines on standby cause those blades will warp due to gravity taking a toll on those giant blades and then when you dare run a windmill w/warped blades...kaboom. Or the 100,000s of birds killed annually. They just leave a few things out
Great video! It provides an awsome look inside a massive wind turbine transmission.
great job it is .. did it for about 9 months @ ZF/hansen Transmissions - top experience !!
I'm interested in how they get those things out of the turbine.
Thank you for sharing the video

That's a baby only a 1660 kW gearbox. I've worked on some wind turbines that are 6 MW.
So you worked on one 3.5 times bigger. That’s cool but I wouldn’t exactly call that a baby
5,000 + wind turbines? amazing!!!

@@operationscomputer1478 Who ever claimed wind power was "100% pollution free"? The turbines don't magically appear out of nowhere.
Oil analysis should have caught this issue before that much damage.
That would be up to the owner I guess. Expensive lesson for them.
But the fix would likely be the same. A UOA would only show steel or yellow metal in the oil
@@tjm3900I think this is a high moisture content problem, they could have caught this before it lead to the corrosion and cavitation pitting
