  • Video guide: How to get from New York Penn station to Newark liberty airport
Getting to and from Newark on AirTrain is fast and easy. AirTrain Newark provides easy connections to and from NJ TRANSIT, PATH and Amtrak through one gateway: Newark Liberty International Airport Station. Customers may purchase a ticket to ride on AirTrain from NJ Transit or Amtrak at their train stations, ticket offices or ticketing machines and the AirTrain Newark fee will be included - one ticket does it all.
AirTrain is free for on-airport travel and makes frequent stops around the airport including airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas and rental car facilities. Payment is made at Airport Station to enter or exit the system. Take AirTrain to Airport Station to connect to NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak.
If you’re departing from NYC Penn Station or Newark, take NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak to Newark Liberty International Airport Station. It takes about five minutes to get from AirTrain to the train platforms and between seven and 11 minutes to get to your terminal, depending on the terminal.

You should mention that you can take the path train from 33rd street to newark. Runs 24/7 and is only 2.95 a bit longer, but cheaper.

You can take the PATH train from any stop in Manhattan to newark, you might have to transfer at journal square, for free. In newark take the bus nbr 62. Its a bit longer, but cheap.

This is the NJ Transit line not the Amtrak.
To be specific you have to take the NJ Transit line for Trenton SEC to get to the airport

00:49 Correction. It’s actually 2 stations after Secaucus and Newark Penn Station.

Correction: after leaving Penn Station in New York City, the stations are
      Secaucus
      Newark Penn Station
      Newark Airport. Exit here.

Once inside Penn Station you have to follow the signs to “NJ Transit”. If you get lost go to an Information Desk.
