Dagger, the root crops is to do with the pigs 'ancestors.' In which pigs in Britain and other countries in the early 1900's and centuries before grew up on scraps from the kitchen while living in back gardens, so their main source of food was mostly potato's and even cheese! Love the vids btw!!

i work on a pig farm and we dont feed root crops. we really only feed them a mixture of grain and corn. then of course they get straw and water. but we never feed root crops. love the videos bud
I'm giving you this piece of advice just in case you don't know already... I've found out something very interesting. When you "teleport" to a farm for contracting work you can press the R button to see the reward they are offering for work. If you press Esc and then R again you will find that the price will change. You can do this repeatedly until you get the maximum price they are prepared to offer. This will vary from farmer to farmer as some will stick to the same price but many will vary their prices. You can make a lot more money doing this. I don't know what will happen if you drive there as I haven't tried this yet.

I'm a past livestock farmer, and yes we had pigs, the potatoes and sugar beet act as a medicinal supplement to keep the pork from going bad, because once you slaughter them for food if they're not fed correctly the pork will come out bad
Hey daggerwin , going to the pig case , the pigs would need the sugarbeet for the fat because sugar = glucose , unused glucose = fat , more fat equals faster putting on body mass which means you can send them off faster. potatoes for their main source of energy (carbohydrates) and fibre which adds bulk to food they eat which satisfies the stomach and also helps the digestive system work better and properly
Pigs also have low Iron. so what ever comes from earthy Crops meaning Sugar beat or Potatoes will have Iron in them. some times if the pig has low iron you can get injections for the pig. the Pellets you feed them (sow nuts) Will normally have everything you need you keep a pig happy and healthy. Hey Daggerwin! In order to raise the cleanliness, you need to take a front end loader and cleanup in front of the feeding troughs and put the food you cleaned up back in the trough.
Just an idea about the bale stacking. Try to park the trailer parallel to the the fields slope, so the bales can roll against the back and lock each other in place. You might be able to put even more on there. That's if they don't decide to jump around on you ;-)

Pigs are animals that find their food underground, like roots and mushrooms. Their snout is specialy desingd to dig into the ground and turn it over in order to retrive it. Pigs also have a very good sence of smell in order to find food underground.
Daggerwin you probably won't see this but you should pretend when your leasing that it's a demo tractor and then buy it or not at the end so make it more realistic because you don't lease a tractor every day and brilliant video
Hi Daggerwin, Pigs need root crops because they contain nutrients which helps their digestion. Those nutrients helps to stand the hairs up in the small intestine to cover more space for digestion. Although I'm not a farmer but I have the knowledge. This is due because I'm good in science.
Pigs in British Columbia, Canada: here, in the Fraser Valley, pigs are commonly fed beets and yams primarily because it is their food of choice. There are pig farmers I know who feed mainly grain to their pigs but those farms tend to produce a lower quality pork than the farmers who feed root crops to their pigs. Some I know in Ontario feed their pigs a combination of root crops and tree fruits (apples, pears, and plums) and then have grain as a staple food source. The pigs do prefer the heartier crops and will go for those first. The end result is a happier pig, a better quality pork, and typically a higher cost for the meat (although the last depends on market price). Really it comes down to farmer's preference and what food sources are readily available to the area. In some cases, legislation can affect what food types can be fed to livestock. For instance, in Bolivia, there are regulations as to how much grain can be fed to cows and pigs. In Canada, I believe there are similar regulations on grain feeding but not quite as strict as some places.
Hey dagger here is an idea why don't you put a silo for some crops at the pig farm so if you bring some grain from the main farm and get to much you don't have to bring it back just put it in one at the pig farm. But just an idea love your vids keep up the great work!

Lots of comments, and though this is old, I think your question should be easily answered. Potatoes are starch carbs, and beets are full of sugar. Pigs are omnivores, much like people. They eat meat, vegetation, and if memory serves, they also eat mushrooms. So potatoes aren't the primary food of pigs, but are a cheap feed option.
we give our pigs apples occasionally from a local orchard, they like variety and wont put on condition if you feed them the same food day in and day out. the soybeans will be for quality food and corn for quantity food

Daggerwin, when you do a contract job, it gains reputation with the farmer. As your reputation grows with said farmer it drives the price of the farm plot down. There is a green bar below the farmers photo and name to display the reputation gained.
Daggerwin, here in America, we do not feed our pigs root crops, our pigs are fed with a 18-21% protein diet which we make ourselves. We grind shell corn and soybean meal together (ground up soybeans) and some salt/minerals sprinkled in. That is what we feed our pigs in North East United States.
I imagine you already know this by now, but I am a bit behind in your videos. But leasing something does not have a timer that runs out, for a new day (and this you already said yourself) you pay a daily fee and then you also pay the fee per hour you actually use the leased equipment. Just had to say something cause it is making me go crazy, and has done for several episodes, haha!

Place the Single vehicle sheds over the unload zones, or near it. Park the water tank, the straw shredder, and grain trailer under them.Then all you need is a small tractor or the pickup to provide power to the various stations refilling the troughs as needed. This will free up and reduce the amount of hours you're putting on your tractors. Instead of having to backup and park each individual trailer/equipment.
You should probably look at upgrades for your farm, before you get too big with too many fields. You're going to want a vehicle maintenance shop at some point to help keep the vehicles maintained. It should help keep the daily costs down and get a better resale value out of them when you do sell the high hour equipment for new stuff.

New tip. Resetting puts something at the shop which would seriously cut down recording times. Also realistic to us if you don't leave it in
