Listen to this man's musical imagination. All the little patterns and ideas, and then each one variated...it's definitely a music lesson in itself just to hear this isolated track. Curious how these are made...
Thank Ya Boiiiiiiiii! There's not a lot of bass players who can be so listenable in isolation. Thank you Phil. Never a moment missed, all opportunities gained on this track. Amazing.
Going to have to go back and listen to the original, Lesh was playing some REALLY tasty stuff, amazing tone!! I had always thought Bird Song was the highlight of that concert, but…
Thanks for posting each players iso track on your channel for Playing In The Band. It’s probably my favorite version of my favorite dead song(at the moment lol). 💀⚡️🎸
No wonder I've been a hardcore deadhead since I found a vinyl copy of workingmans dead in the basement of the house we moved into when I was in 4th grade...like 1974 or something

I agree
I still love Phil like no other bassist. Thank you, Mr. Lesh

Most bass players put it down like an anchor, but Phil, Phil played it like a submarine, like a hot air balloon, like a box of rain.

THE MAN Now and forever.
The versions of "Playin' in the Band" from 4-26-72 (Hundred Year Hall) and 5-26-72 (Lyceum) are great, too. Thanks for this!

Jerry, and I quote;
"I certainly dont play like Phil.."
Well Jerry, I think
nobody does 😉 ❤❤❤
I always felt lifted off the ground when the GD played and I think it was Phil that gave that lift to the music.

The shit he played between verses🔥🔥
“Ya know what I means, ya know what I means”
7 years after he first picked up a bass.
Hi. Whats the brand of strings that Phil was using? Thanks
Pyramid Gold flatwounds on his “alembicized” Guild Starfire bass, which is a cool semi-hollow rig.
I've only heard bad things about them unfortunately. Apparently they're not like they were at all. It's not in the Strings anyway..
Listen to the music play!
