Those were some CRAZY prices. I’m glad to see more & more folks passing over bottles and allowing these stores to continually pay rent for shelf space when they’re jacking up prices to insane levels. 👍
Criminally Overpriced is almost an understatement LOL. I live in NTX and recently purchased a Weller 12 for $36, ER for $42 the 1.75 was $90, EH SB and SB where $65/$50 respectively. Searching for that JD Coy Hill! Great video crazy prices!
Great video For the JD SBBP Ryes. I see them all over my area. 70-79 depending on store. Coincidently the place at $70 has a 138.1 proof….. true banger and almost hazmat level. The juice is soo dark it’s like a Guinness in a JD bottle.
Alex I was super surprised to see it. Not just on whiskey but even at bars and around stores it was reasonable. I always thought it was not ekike California but its not. That store gaspos had a lot of good whiskey for great prices.
Some stores have high prices but we are pretty lucky down here with our prices. Allocated stuff still runs a little high but it’s available. In Tampa/St Pete, most of the store owners get along so the pricing has to make sense or one can just go to another store.
The Four Gate Kelvin Collaboration series are always great! I’m not a fan of amburana but their amburana is actually very good and well blended. Cheers!
Good to see these sitting there still, I really wonder what the coming years will have in store for us with a lot of breweries expanding production to meet the covid and pre covid demand. Also let’s not forget about the market seeing some serious bourbon fatigue. I myself have slowed purchasing quite a bit due to just having too much. Gotta work my way through bottles before I buy more. Cheers.
Look whats happening in the craft beer market. They pushed and there was a lot of price increases. Look at all of tree he breweries closing down. I forsee layoffs and distilleries closing in the next few years.
The OF SB BS rye is $95 at Hwy 7 in Erie (btw, they changed their points program shortly after you showed it). That Port Perry Perry rye is excellent (Matt on ADHD loved it).
@@TheWhiskeyCove It's the same system, but with lower thresholds. Bottles up to $200 require 250 points, 750 points $200-$700, and 1500 points over $700. Still not exactly a screaming deal, as allocated bottles are priced closer to secondary than retail (ETL for $150).
I would have considered those Four Gates. They are below SRP. Is that brand overpriced? Yes. Is it good whiskey? Also yes. IMO they do the best barrel finishing of American whiskey. I was sipping on the PerryPerry last night and it is pretty fantastic. The Brbndnundr is also solid. IMO better than MWNB for same price.
Stagg store picks will go for 225 in the ky secondary market. That was a solid price on that Stagg SP. Pretty sure the MSRP on those is around 100 nowadays
Another great video! I’ve been looking for one of your favorite value bourbons, Early Times Bottled jn Bond, in the north Denver area and can’t find it anywhere. They had it at Total Beverage in Thornton but they don’t have it at the store that replaced it (Denver Liquor Ourlet). Do you have any suggestions of stores in the Denver metro area at which you’ve seen it in the last few weeks?
Fair. Try absolute liquor Mart. 1611 W 84th Ave, Federal Heights, CO 80260. Last time I was there two months ago they had plenty plus one of the black caps left.
i cant stand some of the price gouging that happens near me. i have one RR15 i got at msrp, and it's easily top 3, possibly even first place for me (i'd need to blind it). i'm willing to pay 300 for another to have a backup, but everyone around me has it for 450-500. which, is just something i'm not willing to pay. one place even had it for 600. i try to negotiate, and that honestly helps me find the better stores. near me (maryland/dc), i have now found 2 stores that have secondary prices, but with some talking to the owners or GM of the store, will come down on quite a few to reasonable prices. still over msrp, but not as high as secondary. i guess in this area near dc they just have so many people who either dont know what the prices should be and overpay, or have enough money that they dont care about paying secondary or more and buy them. but a conversation typically leads to good deals on quite a few i have picked up
It's tough to find that sweet spot when it comes to prices. I’m a lot more selective about the whiskey I buy now. In an upcoming store haul video I am discussing I’m buying whiskey that I want to and not from what everyone is talking about. I’ve been getting some great local bottles and sourced stuff that I’m not paying crazy prices for.
To each their own of course, but i thought 1792 12yr was crap. I git the standard banana note from it that i get on all Barton stuff and it was not my jam. Ended up blending it off in the infinity barrel. I would take the knob 12 any day over the 1792.
I bought the second batch of Sweet Wheat some years ago for $40 and really didn't like it. Would never buy it again even at that price. Much better wheaters out there IMO.
Just no on anything marked up more than 15% above msrp. I found a Wild Turkey 70th for $44.09 at my local Costco. Bought my first full sized Wild Turkey as I’ve been hearing the 70th is a great example of the quintessential WT profile (I’ve bought and sessioned several WT101 minis in the recent past). While I’m happy with the purchase, this WT70th maybe have revealed to me that I may not be a fan of the classic WT profile.
Those museum stores suck. Very astute point. What’s the point for selling so high? then when they go out of business they’ll be selling for 50% off. When I see those museum stores I go ham in the Scotch section.
@@TheWhiskeyCove believe it or not man it can be true with these museum stores. Many times throughout the years when I’ve been in those stores I’ve gotten bargains on scotch because all they focused on was allocated bourbons. There were some rare times when I went to the regular bourbon aisle and got some good deals too
Beyond the absurdity of the prices, I can't handle putting expensive spirits on their sides. For wine, yes, but for anything above 40% ABV, you're just going to disintegrate the cork and ruin the spirit. So not only are they overpriced but they're actively ruining the juice inside while it sits there. Drives me absolutely nuts.
I'm truly wondering if people are going to get the annual release of the MidWinters Nights Dram this year. They claim they're going to go back to making less bottles. Think last year in 2023 the MidWinter Nights Dram bottle had 189,000 bottles produced for worldwide distribution and was at $120 MSRP. This year in 2024 the MSRP is $150 for the annual release
@TheWhiskeyCove I look forward to watching the video when it comes out then. I took your advice towards the Thomas S. Moore Port Casks and the store wanted $74.99 each for them. You said $50-$60 buy them so I passed on the 2 bottles left at $74.99 each. I asked if they would do $60 for each bottle and was told that she's trying to run a business so I probably will be returning all unopened bottles purchased from there and calling it a wrap for that store. I spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars at that store and they wouldn't even consider working prices with me

That's a great deal on the Rye! I have seen those around but they are more than $70.
Love these types of videos!!
Please keep them up!
That Tampa bay store had very fair prices. I always thought Florida would be heavy at checkout but who knew.

Yeah man, NYC is tough, I know.

I would have passed on all of those as well. Thanks for the video!
I was heavily thinking about those four gates. Next time.
I just got Kosher wheat and rye for $50 each. Too much?
That's a great price. I never see them for that in Colorado.

My favorite
Omg i passed on 12 year 1792 at msrp last year and still regret it. I picked knob 12 instead

Interesting, I've heard mixed things about that bottle.
Most likely overpaid but I picked up Buffalo Trace Kosher for $70 down in Pueblo CO.
They don't come around that often so indint hate that. I think I see them around $50.
@TheWhiskeyCove There are a few good stores here in Lakewod.

Truth right here.
