I have looked everywhere (I am just learning to sew) I have so wanted to learn how to make a pillow. This was PERFECT and so easy to follow. Thank you so much! Onward!!!
Love this video . Thank you so much! I forgot how to sew pillows although in high school my teacher taught me how to do it by hand sewing but long as I got the important steps down I’m now ready!
This is a great video on making pillows! It's one of the best thing that I've seen on TH-cam! Thanks very much for making this video! The karate chop was way more action than I expected for a sewing video!
Really enjoying all your cushion/pillow videos. What is the best fabric for making cushions/pillows. Do you use a canvas type fabric? Also to wash the covers would you unpick the stitches and resew?
Many Thanks. Love your channel in particular the cushion videos. Going to be making lots. I just love a piped cushion - so classy and you make it so easy!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! You remind me so much of my middle school (I think) home ec teacher!! She was the sweetest lady! Thank you so much for that quick little reminder. Can I ask a question though…I am relearning how to sew….I have noticed when I back stitch my bobbin area is tangling. How do I stop that?
You are so welcome! The threads tangling at the beginning of sewing is pretty common. I try to hold both threads with my left hand when I start sewing. That helps some. If it bothers you, you can also always start sewing on a little scrap piece of fabric first, and then onto your project. Still backstitching at the start of the project fabric. Hope that makes sense. I may have to do a video about this! Thanks for watching!
Hi Jann, I see that this video was created a while ago, so I hope your're still answering questions. What is a good fabric to use for pillows. Does it have to be upholstery fabric? Thank you
How do you hide the very last knot when you've machine stitched the pillow closed? Or, due to the back stitching, do you just cut off the two strings? Thanks for the video!
Hi Jann, even though I reviewed your video a few times, I feel that I am a better learner in person. Do you offer this in person at all? How can I provide my email address securely.
Sorry. It can be tricky, which is why I recently created a new video which shows a trick for machine sewing a pillow closed. It really makes it easier. How To Machine Sew A Pillow Closed - th-cam.com/video/cmAzGg81OmY/w-d-xo.html

Thanks so much for the advice & video ! About to sew my first pillow cover !!!
You are so welcome!
What about seam allowances? Or do you like it a little tight so the pillow feels full?
Exactly. I do not add extra for seam allowances.
I've just created a video dedicated to the seam allowance questions I get. Hope it's helpful! th-cam.com/video/e5Rwsa9H-Xw/w-d-xo.html
Simple and clear. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Really enjoying all your cushion/pillow videos. What is the best fabric for making cushions/pillows.
Do you use a canvas type fabric?
Also to wash the covers would you unpick the stitches and resew?
I like to use 54" wide decorator fabrics. Usually they are not washable fabrics. Thanks for watching!
Many Thanks. Love your channel in particular the cushion videos. Going to be making lots. I just love a piped cushion - so classy and you make it so easy!
That was really cool - thank you! I'm excited to get started on a pillow. Also, you have the same sewing machine as me (I feel validated! ~lol~)
Good luck on your pillow project, and thanks for watching!

I’m a beginner so I’m learning, what thread did you use and the needle size your using for this type fabric.
I used a decorator fabric for this pillow cover. All purpose thread, and a medium sized needle. Thanks for watching!
I love the fabric!
Thanks, I do too! All of my favorite colors.
Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊
Great video. May I ask how much fabric you purchased for 2 18x18 pillows. Guessing a yard, but due to the pattern thought maybe 1 1/2 yards.
Yes, yardage depends on the pattern of the fabric.
Hi Jann, I see that this video was created a while ago, so I hope your're still answering questions. What is a good fabric to use for pillows. Does it have to be upholstery fabric? Thank you
I like to use a good quality 54” wide designer fabric. Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU👍!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice
Thanks for watching!
How do you hide the very last knot when you've machine stitched the pillow closed? Or, due to the back stitching, do you just cut off the two strings? Thanks for the video!
Yes, just cut off the two strings. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your tutorial. What fabric is best for making pillows?
I like to use 54" wide decorator fabric. Thanks for watching!
I was wondering why you did machine stitching on one side - was the hand closure not strong enough? Making mine tonight !:) tyy
To help keep my 1/2" seam allowance more even. Just a guide.
So helpful!! Thank you :)
You're so welcome!
Very neat work,thank you.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You're really sweet. Thanks for the video!
Thank you too!
Just learning how to sew so my question might be silly, but why do you back stitch?
Great question! Backstitching helps to keep your stitches from coming out. Almost like knotting your thread when you hand sew. Thanks for watching!
When you cut the 18 inches, do you account for a half inch of seam allowance on both ends?
To make sure my pillow covers aren't too loose, I cut my fabric same size as the pillow form.
I've just created a video dedicated to the seam allowance questions I get. Hope it's helpful! th-cam.com/video/e5Rwsa9H-Xw/w-d-xo.html
I just made my first pillow and now I’m addicted. This is why some people have 30 pillows on their bed….
Fabulous! Thanks for watching!
Hallo, nice video. Kindly, which sewing machine are you using? I mean the specifications.
Check description. Thanks for watching!
HI - CAN YOU ALSO STUFF THE PILLOW WITH STUFFING TO MAKE IT MORE OF A TIGHT AND FULL PILLOW? CAN YOU DO A VIDEO FOR THAT?
Yes, great idea. Thanks for watching!
What type of fabric do you recommend?
I like to use 54" decorator fabric.
Hi Jann, even though I reviewed your video a few times, I feel that I am a better learner in person. Do you offer this in person at all? How can I provide my email address securely.
Sorry, I don’t provide in person lessons.
Nice
Thanks!

ITS BEEN A YEAR I LOVE YOU
I know, way too long. Thanks for watching!
I tried sewing the bottom edge, but I couldn’t do it because it was just too tight. I had to hand sew it closed, and I hate hand sewing, lol.
