I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY, in the 1960’s. It was great then. But I recently went back to show my son my roots, and I was shocked!

Accurate! You even covered the "astounding" potholes 😂 couldn't have put it better myself.
And the hoops! I started a small business, and I needed proof of insurance to apply for a license. The insurance was close to $10k! I explained to the city clerk and she said "well thats whats required for the application, there's no pre-approval or anything like that". I was like "So you're saying to apply for a license that my be denied I have to gamble $10k?", she was like "yea that's the process". Insane. And sad. Nice vid man you covered a lot.

Dad was stationed at Falls Airbase in 1982-1984 and we lived in Town of Niagara and I liked it so much . Junior High at Lasalle was great. Great people. I remember being warned even then of going downtown . I was cruising Google Earth around La Salle and it still looks the same. Those Victorian homes are so nice. Far cry from out West cookie cutter sub-divisions. Those lawns and those neighborhoods are very desirable. I could live there again.

Yep~~He nailed it~~Niagara Fall N.Y. is really really bad~~I can't believe I still live here~~I can't believe that there are so many boarded up houses..Years ago there were so many places for children to go~~Like parks, girl's and boy's clubs etc. Parents are afraid to let their kids go out and play~~Even the schools are bad~~I see cop cars at Gaskill because kids sneaking in guns, drugs and more fights~~Pine Ave.(Little Italy) is so different and ugly now~~Along with all the crimes there too~Main Street was really nice years and years ago~~Nice stores of all kinds~~Mens, womens shoe stores and Restaurants~~My Ma and I would walk to Main Street and go shopping~~Don't ever walk alone there..If ya''ll have to go to Burger King make sure you go through the drive thru~~My Ma said that Main Street was always nice~~They destroyed Falls Street~~There's so much more terrible things but I'll end this by tellin ya''ll never walk alone anywhere in Niagara Falls N.Y.The city is the worst~~Lasalle area Town of Niagara are sort of alright~~Just watch your backs~~Stay safe ya"ll~~

Thank you, Devonte! This was a great and informative video. As a child, I lived in Niagara Falls, NY, but we moved in 1973. I went to 17th Street School (no longer there), then Harry F. Abate Elementary. My father was the pastor of the Pierce Ave. United Presbyterian Church and our family lived on Pierce Ave. I remember great pizza somewhere downtown (anyone know where this might have been?). God bless you, Devonte!

I travel from Florida to Niagara Falls, NY with my wife about a month ago and touring around the downtown area atleast all I could think to myself is, "How can such a nice place need so much improvement?" The lyft driver warned me of where not to go, didn't see a lot of people out in the streets except for in the falls area during daytime, a lot of businesses closed, it really caught me off guard. But I did enjoy the place to the fullest though. I spent a whole day, night and half of the other just watching the falls, walking around the park, and that trail along the river. Felt so much peace. Oh! And people are pretty nice too. I wish I had the time to tour around Buffalo too.

Took my family to Buffalo Niagara falls right after the restrictions were lifted after covid-19, wanted you the Canadian side of course there's 10 xs more to do etc etc . I found that it was a big tourist trap, without the casino it would be lost and everything surrounding the casino was run down and trashy. Then to come to find out that the big oxy building better known as America's building souvenir shop had back history to the Love canal kind of blew my mind. Everything was super overpriced I probably won't go back. I always appreciated Buffalo. We live in Chardon Ohio 27 miles Northeast of Cleveland. Reminds me a lot like Cleveland, the city that is. Man I ate this Italian joint in Little Italy though that was phenomenal. Great video man really!!

    Hi Devonte,
I'm one of those who work in Canada and live part-time in NF USA (on Whirlpool St just south of Whirlpool State Park). Besides the (much) lower housing prices, the gorge trails and nature are much better on the U.S. side, and I find the people to be nice and down to earth here. I can be across the border in minutes using my Nexus card at the Whirlpool bridge. Toronto is 90 minutes away when traffic is smooth. NF airport has cheap flights to Florida where I have family and my second home. You could do well advertising NF USA properties to Canadians, many of whom are priced out.

As a Canadian I hope more people from Ontario buy homes in Niagra Falls New York and commute back to Canada to work. I would definitely do that the homes are so much cheaper but my job is too far from there. If you have a job in Niagra region it would be worth it. People in the Toronto area are commuting 2hrs a day within the city. The traffic in the GTA is a nightmare. If enough canadians did this it would help revitalize Niagra Falls. There is a big shortage of cheap homes in Southern Ontario.

@@MaxximumRage The bridge is $5 and you only pay going one way. I wouldn't want to do the commute every day, but a couple of times a week is very doable. I do it and just catch up on podcasts and calls during the drive. If you drive off-peak hours, the QEW highway on the Canadian side is smooth sailing.

All the taxes all the money collected from the damn casino where does it all go??? We have the falls in our backyard where's all the money... I'm glad you brought that up a lot of crooks around this city running it.. not to mention the ticket writing racket in Niagara Falls and that's pretty much what it's become... I could tell you a handful of reasons why Downtown Niagara Falls is in shambles and the way it is but nobody wants to hear the truth 1 big downfall when it comes to the downtown area is all the housing... The businesses couldn't stay afloat when we should have had tourism make this place a powerhouse.. but all the things came together that made this town ripe for the picking and that's what's been done to this place and they got a lock on it..
